Rather than using scissors or even side cutters to cut off the excess, (which leaves a nasty edge) try fingernail or toenail clippers. Put the cutting edge right up against the clutch and clip. The result is amazingly smooth. The larger toenail clippers work even better. I keep one in with my Zip Ties.

one thing i learned about using zip ties, if you leave any exposed trailer not cut off flush, and especially ones that were angled cut, beware, those edges are like a razor blade. my advice is to clip them flush to the lock, then sand it down so it feels smooth.

some of these are great tips, others not so much... ONE MAJOR thing to know, if anyone doesn't know already, YOU WANT A CLEAN CUT FOR ZIP TIES, bc those sharp ends will CUT YOU!! AND I PROMISE, YOU'LL BLEED! also another good tip is knowing why the zip tie has an angle at the end, the upwards end is how a technician knows by feeling, which way the zip tie are needed to be closed without having to redo, turn it, or whatever... no one should ever keep a lighter lit for longer than a few seconds at a time.. they will explode... some of your other tips, some made no sense to me, but maybe helpful to others... tks for sharing the ideas!

If you twist the remainder of the zip tie with a pair of Lineman Pliers you will get a flush smooth end. Simply place the Lineman pliers up to the locking head of the zip and turn in a circular motion, rotating till the remaining unwanted portion of tie breaks off

    • @tracymarie4633

Um... I just twist it with my fingers till it comes off. No tools. Great for camping. Made mini Saw-blade when camping. Used rock to make notches -- sharp, but not much draw. Used it to "split" openings in bigger pieces of wood -- makes them start burning deep sooner, also make fire faggots when no long grass or reeds. Desert camping is odd.
