    Don't use melamine sponges on sinks, tubs or toilets if they're painted! Cheaper toilets are often concrete painted with a white glaze, rather than full porcelain. Melamine sponges will strip that paint away.

    I often use melamine sponges as dish sponges. I cut them into thirds so they last longer, and I try not to get them soaking wet so they don't fall apart. The finer foam means a little bit of washing-up liquid goes much further, they're gentle enough but abrasive enough to clean even non-stick pans, and because they do wear out more quickly I don't have to worry about disinfecting my sponge since it's changed every few days anyway. They also polish cutlery much better than standard sponges.

    • @MrEazyE357
      @MrEazyE357 6 років тому +10

      Manpag You know thats not good for your dishes at all. Melamine is just like very fine sandpaper so it's actually sanding a fine layer off your dishes every time you wash them.

    Use your sponges to clean stuff! Who would have known?

  • @TheLittleDinka
    @TheLittleDinka 5 років тому

    Being heavily into automotive detailing, I personally wouldn't recommend using a magic eraser on your car's wheels, and, even though it wasn't mentioned, definitely don't use it on your paint.
    When you use it on your wheels, it will begin to strip any protective coating on them, and if you use one frequently enough, you can start to degrade the clear coat and you end up with peeling, ugly wheels.
    I'd recommend getting a dedicated wheel cleaning product. You can go to your local Walmart or AutoZone and have plenty of options.
    The one automotive thing I would use a magic eraser for is the interior windows. If your car has plastic and vinyl in your interior, as most cars do, these materials cause off-gassing when the sun heats them up, and this off-gassing sticks to your windows and is very hard to get off. Get the magic eraser wet and wipe in circular motions to make quick work of this off-gassing layer.
    Just make sure to have some paper towels, or even better, microfiber rags, ready, in case water from the magic eraser drips onto your dashboard or door panels, as it will cause discoloration in the vinyl and plastic.

    I tried the fabric softener "trick" a few years ago. Done great on the clothes. However, upon further inspection of the dryer, there was fabric softener slung everywhere. So much so, that it even ran down the outside of the dryer. It also clogged up the vent hose leading to the outside. Wont make that mistake again.

    I have to say, those Magic Eraser sponges are the shit. I worked as a janitor for awhile and I was trying to find something, anything, to remove those black scuff marks from the bottom of doors from when people's shoes hit them. Nothing took them off and I was at the hardware store trying to find some harsh chemical that would remove them and the lady recommended the Magic Eraser sponges and I said "yeah right" but bought them anyway. And I was shocked at how easy they took the marks off. Just like erasing a pencil mark from paper. But they do act just like an eraser and little pieces fall off as you use them.
