I backed Mr Frisk at 25/1 ante post. I backed him the year before too but he was a non runner. This really was a fantastic spectacle with Mr Frisk and Uncle Merlin vying for the lead until Uncle Merlin fell.

A certainly on the fast ground, backed Durham Edition each way as well a few days before, when the weather forecast was for a dry spell

How bad was the camera work here? Half the time all you see is horse boxes and cars.

This will never be equalled, as this was the last National run on Firm ground

I don't know what 'firm ground' means. Are you referring to the turf? Explain, please, if you would.

If you are tlking about the records, records are made to be broken. All of Man o Wars have been broken. Yes, it is often wet or raining during the race, but not always. No "last running on firm ground". All races, before and after were run, of corse, on turf, grass. What is your point?

Think it means the jockeys both finished with hard on’s

@@aquariusmercury It was dry and sunny around that time, not much rain about. So the ground would have been easy to walk on without getting muddy shoes etc....Basically the Horse is travelling on the top of the ground, not sinking,if that makes sense.

@@aquariusmercurywhen a race meeting is on the ground (also called "the going ") can be described as firm/good/good to soft/ soft/heavy and there are a couple of other descriptions. It is determined by how far into the ground a "pointy stick" will go. That's a basic description for you, trying not to use too much racing terminology that you may not know.

The finishing time of 8:47, is the only time under 9 minutes flat. Durham Edition, 2nd, was less than a length behind Mr Frisk, that is less than a second time wise. His is without a doubt the second fastest time ever run in the Grand National. But who cares??? These races are about much more than time. My fave is Hedgenunter, who after running 4.5 miles, jumping over 30 hedges, was still able to pour it on in the stretch, really fast, and win by a huge margin. The time? Who cares?

Pretty sure Uncle Merlin had them both covered.

In my opinion Mr Frisk was the biggest certainty ever to run in the Grand National, and I said that to everybody I knew for a week before the race was run. Uncle Merlin wouldn't have beaten him.

@@BertSmithLondon I've lived in the U.S since the 70's and horse racing here is boring, I miss Grand National day.

@@BertSmithLondonNo way would Mr Frisk of been beaten. I thought he was a certainty too. Backed him ante post at 25/1. I watched him come 3rd at Cheltenham in his previous race. I knew it was just a training exercise for the National, and so it proved. A really great National and my favourite.
