That line up was stacked with quality and class, what a time for jumps racing! Past and present Gold Cup winners, King George winners, Scottish National winners etc etc …. Funnily enough, I remember going to little ol’ Perth a couple of weeks later, Master Oats was running..won in a canter and was a Welsh National along with a Gold Cup winner less than a year later, class horse.
I remember the owner, Freddie Starr, getting an early price of 33-1 (it won at 16-1) with a bet to win of £10k. Fantastic result for the horse, rider and owner. RIP Freddie.
