I'll miss Simmo, I'll never forget anxiously holding on to my hubby as I watched the the last two minutes in 2018 from a mobile phone (had no tv at the time, had moved house), holding on for dear life as that magical sequence led to Dom Sheed... so many great memories and a fair bit of pain along the way. Always will be a proud Eagle! But boy does the way they conducted this as a club NOT sit well with me at all. He deserved a lot more respect in my opinion. Just didn't sit right that last presser.💛💙
Weird feeling. Unchartered territory for me too as a fan. It's sad, while also feeling like a fresh start. Club legend always, thankful for all he's done - he was probably unlucky with COVID, injuries and poor list management decisions.
I really wanted Simmo to be the one to get us back up but after the Melbourne win we've been unforgivably awful. The West newspaper journos are woeful.

I love and respect Adam Simpson and was in full support of keeping him as coach last year but with what’s happened since loosing to nm, this was well overdue and simmo knew listening to his last to post game press conference. I don’t think he will coach Sunday. I felt awkward when he said some players will be happy he’s leaving. Love Simmo but keen to see who will coach 2025 and how they can rebuild us to another premiership
I feel relief. I love Simmo. I absolutely Love this coach I think he's a fantastic human being as well and he handles himself with class unlike that other idiot they had down the road for awhile (Lyon) .... Ultimately he'd delivered us to premiership and you can never take that away from him and ultimately that is why we play this game and I'm probably gonna use the word ultimately a lot. He delivered a premiership against all odds because it is so difficult to win now from outside of Victoria with the Victorian teams getting such a homeground advantage it is almost impossible for interstate teams to win a flag now! And we lost Nick Naitanui we lost other players like Brad Shepherd and Andrew Gaff during that series and it was amazing that we still won the flag and we also lost McKenzie as well. They were four Australian or very close to all Australian players. Also there is simple saying in Sports "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result". We had to make changes. Clay Hall and Zane Trew must play! Jack williams must play ..Jai Culley must play.
Just on Maric. I went to the Peel v Eagles game and the team was deplorable. The only player that looked like an AFL player was Maric. He looked great off half back and wing. He was given the reigns with his ball use to be the player that sets up play. He used his speed in some plays which surprised me that he had any. He got plenty of the ball too. 24 disposals. He definitely needs a call up. Hall looked shithouse and not ready. Trew and Culley just look too slow and too reactive. Culley got caught with the ball going forward from a stoppage and that was the moment I realised I have false hope in Culley. Gaff got to good positions as a receive player. I've always rated his ability to do that to help others and always be there. The reality is though he looks gone. There was a section of special needs people in the crowd and one of them kept yelling out, 'oh cmon Gaff' even when he was not close to the ball and at inappropriate times and it was piss funny because we all have been thinking it but he just took it to another level. Anyway that's my WAFL report. As much as we want change the reality is there is not much to choose from at that level. Hopefully this changes in the next few weeks and players can build form. Bazzo is back this week so be nice to see if he can get a good block of games and push for the 3rd tall back man role. I just don't rate H. Edwards whatsoever. His decision making and ball use is decrepit.
@@George-xb5ey Jones will be dropped this week and will surely be delisted finally as his contract is up. Cripps has a contract for 2025. I spoke with him about a year or so ago and asked him about retirement. He said that he will walk away when he feels the young players are ready to step up. Long out for a year with a knee injury says to me that Cripps will play out his contract and most likely hang up the boots next season once Long is back up and running and hopefully producing with form. Having said that, Pyke seems to mean business and Simpson said that 10 players could leave at the end of the season. That tells me that maybe a couple who are contracted for 2025 may depart too. Which ones is the interesting question. Darling is out of contract in 2025. We need to pay him out this season.

I feel that was the most uncomfortable I have seen Simmo at a presser, for both the CEO and Chairman of the board to both be singing his praises but sack him n say he is not good for the club was just poor. 7 more weeks could not hurt the club, they have to pay him out anyway. Love the crack at Pyke to be coach n CEO n also the chip for woodcock, which he has already been roasted for. Amazing that Pyke said that he was good enough for the job at the start of the year, but now he is not. We have more wins, less severe losses but this is not seen as improving. Board has been spooked by the media. I feel the respect should of been given to Simmo to see out the year, they could do what they like afterwards. At the end of the day he is not the only one making football decisions, line coaches, fitness, recruitment, list managers and team selection are not 100% his fault. 💙💛🏆🦅💔
The thing that really hurt simmo was that Hawthorn game. We had almost a full list to choose, and dished up utter crap. His papers were stamped after that game. However, what people dont realise is, when we had that decent patch where we won some games, it was because Reid, Yeo and Kelly were killing it. In that Hawthorn game, Reid hadn't played for a month. Kelly had a banged up knee, a sore hip and hadn't played for a month and Yeo's father had just died. Expectations were high, but the reality was that we have no depth in the midfield and our top three midfielders were not at their best. It also didn't help the we couldn't hold on vs North and St Kilda, but the Hawthorn game was the one that got him. Good luck to the next coach who comes in. The list has gaping holes. We are going to get worse before we get better, unless the get lucky with free agency. We need a coach that is smart, a great tactician, good with young players, experienced success as a player and a coach. Knows what it takes to take a team all the way. Is calm and cool under pressure. Can handle intense media scrutiny. Oh wait, we had the perfect person for job, and sacked him. A new coach will come in, he'll be given a 3-5, year contract. We'll finish bottom 4 for at least the next 2 years, but no one will say " sack the coach". We'll give a new coach all the time he needs, but we couldn't give Adam the same. It's not so much that it was uncomfortable, that wasn't a shock. It's moreso a feeling that despite being a business, businesses are still comprised of people, and how an entity conducts these things does matter. It simply felt like they could have done more to get on a similar page before holding such a press conference. Felt very on the fly.
What can the Eagles achieve, they just need to finish the last 7 games and look forward to the summer, beach and new year's eve. Then do analysis of every microscopic or notable improvement in preseason. But I appreciate the Scorchers, Wildcats and East Perth Royals at times like these.
Love Simmo and it’s always sad to lose part of the WC family, but it’s time to move on. At least we will see if anyone else can get something out of our playing group.
Your comment about Schofield needing to present a case about his aspirations to be a senior coach sum up why this change at this time was not correct. I had the sense that Simmo had the chance to start swinging the axe NOW. All the questionable players, Witherden, Rotham, Jones, Darlinge et al out now in exchange for untried, as per your video this week.
Watching west coast over the last 4 years, I'm just so confused on why they didn't play more young players. Now it's come to bite the coach. On the uncomfortableness of the sacking, I think people were expecting more of a Richmond- Damien vibe.

Tell you what Simmo deserves his flowers, especially for everything he's done at West Coast for the last 10 years, the premiership is the cherry on the top of the cake. But what really pisses me off is how the West Coast board of directors have handled the whole situation, it was an utter shit show. Simpson didn't get the sack, he was executed in public literally. And not even a thank you and adulation for everything, and Don Pyke had the balls to invite Adam to coach the team one last home game, given a nice gesture, but it was a kick in the pants after getting the sack, and for that I lost a bit of respect for the club. It goes to show now was once a proud and successful club to an utter trainwreck the West Coast Eagles are now as a football club. What the club now needs to do the next two seasons is overhaul the entire football club from the ground up, shake up the board of directors, a massive change up of the playing list, use draft picks to get new blood in the club, use the WAFL to their advantage to not only get development into new players but try and obtain a bit of success in the WAFL. Why not the historic WAFL Premiership would go nicely alongside the AFL Premierships West Coast have.
Content its over, but happy it happened. A great coach, but realistically it was time for a change. I still think he has the ability to coach a team all the way but for whatever reason it was just at a point where fans, players and the team needed something new. Hopefully Schofield has a directive to make sure we know all we need to know about the list by the end of the year. Most likely interim coach, I've heard will be Jarred Schofield onto hopefully D Cox others are mentioned a few others being thrown around as they would be. As a North man, Simmo will be eternally loved by North. As you might recall in this year's pre-season I made a bold prediction/hot take that Simmo would be sacked by mid-season... Lingered past what I predicted alas the domino had fallen and it's an unfortunate one cause I was actually thinking he could've made it to seasons end and then this happens... Simmo gave WC finals footy and Premiership success and unfortunately he got what looked as blatant disrespect in the form of that presser. Putting the in-house talk out there before the discussions were even had over this week's game was by far a cruel on the spot jab. By and large though, Simmo wasn't the problem. The management and building (or lack there of) is what's brought WC to where they are today. Simmo was just the unfortunate figure whom couldn't rebuild what has in fact crumbled. That said, recruitment department has been addressed and a new coach will come. However. I as a fellow supporter of a bottom of the ladder team in North, have serious concerns for WC and that I strongly believe that there is still pain to come. You've been very stoic in your stance that WC is bit better and further along for development than North in part because of your experience and North's lack of experienced players. My current take is that WC'S experience has quickly escalated into a hindrance than a benefit to your younger players. It's been highlighted recently enough in the media that WC needs to be more bold in recruitment and I strongly agree that it is now a par for the course from here onwards for WC. Cut the rot to finally get on the trot and move the rebuild along. New coaches, new players, new direction and unfortunately the biggest problem yet is still inwards. Pyke and co need to be very wary from here onwards IMO as they're now the Soul figures of what can go right, wrong or VERY wrong from here. Pyke specifically could change my opinion though we've seen his handiwork before at Adelaide and so far he hasn't looked to have changed tact. All in all, great content as always mate! Looking forward to seeing who gets the top job, sooner the better. So long as he's the right one. (An experienced coach would be far better IMO)
Simmo is measured and professional, even during this meeting. Even the pot at Woodcock was pretty tounge in cheek (although completely true). Anyone who thinks as he is walking down the aisle, with an entire rooms focus on him including media, then pots Bailey (for alledged text messages) is so far off the reservation.
I think the club is fielding older players at the moment so that they can possibly get some trade potential I see 10+ players being turned over at end of year besides retirements. I feel the coach change should have come at the end of the year there is nothing to be gained by having an interem coach at all.
If I’m being honest the more I’ve let this sit I reckon it was the right call but the execution by the club wasn’t anything to be proud of but the only thing I’m a little worried about is that with the list changed we’re gonna make. For example does this hurt or help our chances at a Liam baker or someone like that and does this mean that players that might have more to offer like Zane trew and harry edwards could get cut when they shouldn’t and a player like Luke edwards could get a contract when it isn’t deserved. To sum this up I hope whoever is in charge at the off-season makes the right calls and I hope players do the same like a sheed or darling retiring early.

Suma has been bitter at WCE since they didn't give him the Snr Coach role back when Simmo was hired. I don't want him as my clubs coach. Buckley would be good, I think it would make the place more attractive for someone like Harley Reid for sure.
I'd be surprised if they all don't do it. I wouldn't criticise any club if they did or didn't do it though. People who demand acknowledgement of country at every meeting and people who criticize any acknowledgement of country, to me are the lowest common denominator.
He was damned if he did and damned if he didn't, play too many kids and you get walloped. Try balance the kids with any sort of veteran and its "play the kids" 2018 we debuted 8 players, so it shows Simmo liked to develop younger talent by trickle feeding them into the team. Unfortunately 2019 we didnt get any new talent because team selectors (not Simmo) threw all our picks out to get Kelly, not a terrible plan considering upfront we were blessed with talent, and down back we had absolute pillars, midfield was the weakest part of our team so it makes sense to bolster that area. But we were competitive up until 2020. Unfortunately it didn't pan out, Kelly wasn't in 2023/2024 form (it takes time to gel), then we had covid, and we didn't have good drafting also shocking injury luck. 2020 also saw soft cap cuts so the teams of people that used to manage players and our injured list simply didn't exist anymore, so fewer physios had to manage more players. I dunno, senior coach is a lightning rod for how a club is travelling. We just got a new performance coach this year, and a new CEO, so I feel like letting Simmo coach the year out before making a call was a better move. Too much change in a short time can confuse the problem, but I think the poor decisions of non-football personnel have resulted in our current situation and its EASY to just say, well it's Simmos fault lets sack him and now everything will go better. When in reality, it may have already been getting better. This year started with all media saying we wouldn't win a game. Then we beat Richmond (from 4/5 goals down). Then we beat Freo (following week, Freo are 3rd on ladder), we lost to Essendon by a bees dick, currently 4th on the ladder (Crippa had brainfart that cost the game). then we spanked Melbourne... So its hard to argue that we haven't made progress, or on some kind of positive path.
Old song was junk, it needed to be redone. New song has overly verbose lyrics, but I think the best WCE song hasn't been invented yet, it should be a balance between the current version and the old one. Our old song is about equal to Freo Heave-ho. Get the people who delivered GWS to pen it.

I think Simmo is a nice person and early on was a good coach, but he’d lost his ability to be objective when it comes to selections and senior players. Hopefully whoever comes in has no ties to senior players and will play the youth to fully evaluate the list so we can recruit correctly.

Best news today. Had a bit of a shit start to the day and then had this news which cheered me up heaps. I cheered when I found out this toxic cancer was removed. We won the 2018 premiership due to Sam Mitchell’s help, which was evident when we disintegrated after Mitchell left. There are certainly some very deluded people who have no idea how much better off we now are. Finally, we can actually start to rebuild the club and give these untried kids a chance.

Btw, Josh Carr wasn't just a freo flog player. He played a lot longer for Port Adel first and won a flag in 2004. He moved to Freo after that.

What can the Eagles achieve, they just need to finish the last 7 games and look forward to the summer, beach and new year's eve. Then do analysis of every microscopic or notable improvement in preseason. But I appreciate the Scorchers, Wildcats and East Perth Royals at times like these.
Love Simmo and it’s always sad to lose part of the WC family, but it’s time to move on. At least we will see if anyone else can get something out of our playing group.

Watching west coast over the last 4 years, I'm just so confused on why they didn't play more young players. Now it's come to bite the coach. On the uncomfortableness of the sacking, I think people were expecting more of a Richmond- Damien vibe.

Tell you what Simmo deserves his flowers, especially for everything he's done at West Coast for the last 10 years, the premiership is the cherry on the top of the cake. But what really pisses me off is how the West Coast board of directors have handled the whole situation, it was an utter shit show. Simpson didn't get the sack, he was executed in public literally. And not even a thank you and adulation for everything, and Don Pyke had the balls to invite Adam to coach the team one last home game, given a nice gesture, but it was a kick in the pants after getting the sack, and for that I lost a bit of respect for the club. It goes to show now was once a proud and successful club to an utter trainwreck the West Coast Eagles are now as a football club. What the club now needs to do the next two seasons is overhaul the entire football club from the ground up, shake up the board of directors, a massive change up of the playing list, use draft picks to get new blood in the club, use the WAFL to their advantage to not only get development into new players but try and obtain a bit of success in the WAFL. Why not the historic WAFL Premiership would go nicely alongside the AFL Premierships West Coast have.

Content its over, but happy it happened. A great coach, but realistically it was time for a change. I still think he has the ability to coach a team all the way but for whatever reason it was just at a point where fans, players and the team needed something new.
Hopefully Schofield has a directive to make sure we know all we need to know about the list by the end of the year. Guys like JJ and Rotham who are no chance of a new contract out, guys like Culley and Burgiel who are younger and have lacked opportunity should get a couple of games before they get delisted

As a North man, Simmo will be eternally loved by North. As you might recall in this year's pre-season I made a bold prediction/hot take that Simmo would be sacked by mid-season...
Lingered past what I predicted alas the domino had fallen and it's an unfortunate one cause I was actually thinking he could've made it to seasons end and then this happens...
Simmo gave WC finals footy and Premiership success and unfortunately he got what looked as blatant disrespect in the form of that presser. Putting the in-house talk out there before the discussions were even had over this week's game was by far a cruel on the spot jab. By and large though, Simmo wasn't the problem.
The management and building (or lack there of) is what's brought WC to where they are today. Simmo was just the unfortunate figure whom couldn't rebuild what has in fact crumbled.
That said, recruitment department has been addressed and a new coach will come. However. I as a fellow supporter of a bottom of the ladder team in North, have serious concerns for WC and that I strongly believe that there is still pain to come.
You've been very stoic in your stance that WC is bit better and further along for development than North in part because of your experience and North's lack of experienced players. My current take is that WC'S experience has quickly escalated into a hindrance than a benefit to your younger players. It's been highlighted recently enough in the media that WC needs to be more bold in recruitment and I strongly agree that it is now a par for the course from here onwards for WC. Cut the rot to finally get on the trot and move the rebuild along. New coaches, new players, new direction and unfortunately the biggest problem yet is still inwards. Pyke and co need to be very wary from here onwards IMO as they're now the Soul figures of what can go right, wrong or VERY wrong from here.
Pyke specifically could change my opinion though we've seen his handiwork before at Adelaide and so far he hasn't looked to have changed tact.
All in all, great content as always mate! Looking forward to seeing who gets the top job, sooner the better. So long as he's the right one. (An experienced coach would be far better IMO)

Simmo is measured and professional, even during this meeting. Even the pot at Woodcock was pretty tounge in cheek (although completely true).

I think the club is fielding older players at the moment so that they can possibly get some trade potential I see 10+ players being turned over at end of year besides retirements. I feel the coach change should have come at the end of the year there is nothing to be gained by having an interem coach at all.
If I’m being honest the more I’ve let this sit I reckon it was the right call but the execution by the club wasn’t anything to be proud of but the only thing I’m a little worried about is that with the list changed we’re gonna make. For example does this hurt or help our chances at a Liam baker or someone like that and does this mean that players that might have more to offer like Zane trew and harry edwards could get cut when they shouldn’t and a player like Luke edwards could get a contract when it isn’t deserved. To sum this up I hope whoever is in charge at the off-season makes the right calls and I hope players do the same like a sheed or darling retiring early.

Buckley would be good, I think it would make the place more attractive for someone like Harley Reid for sure.

2018 we debuted 8 players, so it shows Simmo liked to develop younger talent by trickle feeding them into the team.
Unfortunately 2019 we didnt get any new talent because team selectors (not Simmo) threw all our picks out to get Kelly, not a terrible plan considering upfront we were blessed with talent, and down back we had absolute pillars, midfield was the weakest part of our team so it makes sense to bolster that area. But we were competitive up until 2020.
Unfortunately it didn't pan out, Kelly wasn't in 2023/2024 form (it takes time to gel), then we had covid, and we didn't have good drafting also shocking injury luck. 2020 also saw soft cap cuts so the teams of people that used to manage players and our injured list simply didn't exist anymore, so fewer physios had to manage more players.
I dunno, senior coach is a lightning rod for how a club is travelling. We just got a new performance coach this year, and a new CEO, so I feel like letting Simmo coach the year out before making a call was a better move. Too much change in a short time can confuse the problem, but I think the poor decisions of non-football personnel have resulted in our current situation and its EASY to just say, well it's Simmos fault lets sack him and now everything will go better. When in reality, it may have already been getting better.
This year started with all media saying we wouldn't win a game. Then we beat Richmond (from 4/5 goals down). Then we beat Freo (following week, Freo are 3rd on ladder), we lost to Essendon by a bees dick, currently 4th on the ladder (Crippa had brainfart that cost the game). then we spanked Melbourne...
So its hard to argue that we haven't made progress, or on some kind of positive path.

Old song was junk, it needed to be redone. New song has overly verbose lyrics, but I think the best WCE song hasn't been invented yet, it should be a balance between the current version and the old one. Our old song is about equal to Freo Heave-ho.

I rate Simmo fairly highly and so i feel the way they've mistreated him is grossly unfair. He's a proven premieship coach and only last year the club announced they were standing firm with. Now they decide it's time for a change.. Why - because the media-spin says so?? I applauded their resolve last year to not bow to pressure. Now they have bowed to such pressure i'm sincerely disappointed in your club.

I think Simmo is a nice person and early on was a good coach, but he’d lost his ability to be objective when it comes to selections and senior players. Hopefully whoever comes in has no ties to senior players and will play the youth to fully evaluate the list so we can recruit correctly.

Typical of the way the club operates the past few years want the "warm fuzzy" vibe need to get away from that. I think internally there has been massive turmoil going on and they have done this now to stop the leaking of more crap to the media and of course onfield performance, probably linked to internal problems.

Best news today. Had a bit of a shit start to the day and then had this news which cheered me up heaps. I went and got myself some snacks and some beers to enjoy the fallout when i got home from work. I love my club and couldn't be happier that they ripped this bandaid off. Can you believe this prick tried to say he was broke in the presser and had to cancel disney + for his kids??? I know emotions are running high but guilt tripping like that is a btch move. I'm glad he exposed his true colours at the end. I am shocked at the simpson sympathists out there, you guys must need another jab to come back to reality.
I cheered when I found out this toxic cancer was removed. We won the 2018 premiership due to Sam Mitchell’s help, which was evident when we disintegrated after Mitchell left. There are certainly some very deluded people who have no idea how much better off we now are. Finally, we can actually start to rebuild the club and give these untried kids a chance.

What this Adam Simpson sacking has showed me is that the people in the West are absolute trolls and completely delusional. From the media over there to the actual supporters, it’s been insane! To believe Sam Mitchell had a bigger contribution to the 2018 grand final than Adam is crazy thinking, give him the respect he deserves. I hope he comes back to Victoria and brings Harley with him.
