Arcane is the most shining example of a videogame adaptation done incredibly well, hands down. I wish it would get brought up in conversation more.

And on paper it could be seen as "woke"! With female protagonist and antagonist, hinted lesbian, diverse races/ethnicities etc. And yet none of it matters because the animation is mesmerising, the voice acting is stellar, and the story is incredibly engaging.

I hate Hate HATE when new Star Wars content don’t use John Williams’ iconic score and themes. The music has been a big part of good Star Wars. Lucas himself said that he approached the movies as silent films with the visuals and music driving the story. Now it’s just generic synthesized swells of orchestration that can be found in a trailer of an Asylum film. Does Disney not want to pay out to JW?

Why can't we hire seven people of short stature? The Wizard of Oz, Return of the Jedi, Time Bandits, Willow all hired a specific population of actors who bring their talents to the screen.

Kevin Hart is on this trip where he wants to be accepted as being able to do serious action roles and not always be the funny guy or the side kick or whatever. I mean i get not wanting to be type cast but I mean work within your strengths right? I just don't think anyone is ever going to accept Kevin Hart as being that bad ass Action Hero. It's just not in his destiny.

On the Street Fighter comment, they did it right though with Street Fighter Assassin's Fist.
As for Hollywood learning lessons, no they don't. They don't want to listen to or cater to fans because they have massive egos and think they know best and can do better than others. To listen and cater to fans would "destrot their creativity."

In regards to the Uncharted film being lackluster. Look up the BTS making of the game's cutscenes. THAT is how they should of made the actual film and they should have used the original actors.
It's also how I would make a Legacy of Kain movie.

Here is what Hollywood doesnt understand. Some video game stories are done so well that they are better than a ton of movies. The reason the games arent even more popular is because non-game playing normies know nothing about the game or its story BUT would absolutely love the story and characters if told in a coherent 2 hour long movie. So you stay true to the game, its story and its characters and you introduce them to people who would otherwise never know the story. Its win-win. You please the fans of the game and introduce the story to a whole new audience.
What Hollywood does now is say "Our professional writers in Hollywood are far superior than some game company making a story up and those gamer nerds will come no matter what so lets make our own story to get the normies to come" and all they do is piss off the fan base and write something far worse than the original material

Every culture on earth has tons of folktales - just like Snow White came from the Grimm Brothers' story, many other stories have been collected in the 150 years since. The same model of adapting folktales could work, but be done in a global way. Aladdin/Mulan/Moana and such were moves in that direction, but there's much more that could be done. But you have to take your audience seriously and allow them to be challenged.
Novels are another great source. Much of Ghibli's work for instance is from adapted novels. (Otherwise they adapted manga, often written by Miyazaki himself.)
Disney is a huge pile of investor money and revenues waiting to connect with authentic stories.
If the worldview of those running the company is so closed that they can't look beyond the company's own past, or if the worldview of their audience is so closed, that might explain the current trap. Safety at all costs guarantees irrelevance.
Nothing lasts forever, but it would be great for Disney to pull out of the current nosedive. The desire to _actually make money_ is a powerful force. But so is denial with icebergs ahead.
In the meantime, the rest of us are elsewhere, connecting with (and creating) other things.

Speaking of "fidelity to the audience". I the Deadpool 3 had a lot of that. I think the variant scenes (particularly the crucifixion and AoA variants) are a good blueprint of how to make an X-men movie.

At SD Comic Con they had a Moxxi themed bar in the gaslamp, and another on the convention floor, and psychos handing out fliers in the streets. They were spending real cash to promote it, but no panels or appearances. The studio couldnt get any creatives to put themselves on the line to promote what they know is a turd.

I heard about the Borderlands movie when Bobby Lee talked about going to film it years ago. I expected it to bomb then. So, no surprise that it bombed. And Eli Roth is a bad director, imo. Always has been. I never expect anything he makes to be good, so its surprising the one or two times hes made watchable movies.

this is very strange.. some panelist appears to be very good mind readers. everyone know making a movie takes hundreds of people and like most things, not easy...so when it worked, artistically and/or commercially it is something of a critic's miracle. otherwise it's fine to trash it.
