- This is a fan requested comparison between Lou Ferrigno and Paul Dillett, two of the biggest bodybuilders of all time. For the most part I will be using pictures of both guys from the 1993 Mr. Olympia event.

You're absolutely right. Dillett would have been Mr. Olympia many times if he had a back. That guy had some absolutely insane, insane genetics.

Back arguments lame; he had less weaknesses than most
In Lou’s defence, he looked a lot better in his Arnold days. He was already retired for years before this return to the Olympia.

Lou put on a huge amount of mass and was far more conditioned for his return. As to whether or not that's better or worse depends on what you prefer. I prefer classic Lou, but it is because his appearance got blocky and he didn't look very good peeled.

Paul Dillet with the work ethics of Ronnie and Yates, posing technics of Lee Labrada and the Juices used today by the elite would pretty much mop the floor with any current bodybuilder in my opinion.

Lou could have been Mr. O, but his father kept him down. He saw The Hulk as a way out and took it. I don't blame him, but he could have done both.
It's inexplicable why he quit when Arnie quit. He could easily have won a couple of Mister Olympias.

The whole father training him stuff was fiction. Pumping Iron is a Docudrama.

@@AnsrMax Lou said his father thru him out of the house when he didn't win. I think Lou was afraid of his father and to lose, and took on the Hulk role as an excuse to not compete.

I saw both of them that year in real life.

@@jeffreylocke8808 I saw them in life. Trust me when I say he had some kind of implants. It was pretty obvious.

Also in the golden era, the guys worked a lot more on ribcage expansion exercises, pullovers..breathing squats, they had huge ribcages, if you couple that with excellent pec development, you have the classic side chest from Arnold.
Lou might have been the Hulk, but Paul is the monster.

Lou Ferrigno was actually 6'4" flat in his prime, probably 6'3½" here. He's standing way slouchier and still has a good inch on him, so therefore Paul was rather a smidge below 6'3'' in his prime and a good 6'2" here.

No contest. Dillet was a better defined back and better posing away from dominating bodybuilding. He’s still in my opinion the greatest mass monster of all time. Better than Gunter, Marcus Ruhl, Nasser, etc. He could have been dominant.
Both awesome guys great comparison!!! Tho with Lou at his peak and Paul at his peak I prefer Lou. A guy past his prime and a decade older if factored in gives Lou the win, but aside from that in the 90s Paul had some advantages, namely arms
What’s lost in these photo comparisons every time is the actual physical size difference. Lou makes Dillet look like a child when they stand side by side. Google it. There’s an image of them together.
The experts claim lou's height was under 6'4 he could be even closer to 6'3
For sure, I could see the case being due to the Pumping Iron doc, and then also his Hulk show, for the purpose of attention/drama, they advertise Lou’s height as 6’5” to make him a more imposing figure

Paul appears to have great lats on his front double bi then he turns around & his overwhelming front never translated. It's too bad cause if his lats were as close to unbeatable then he would have placed higher at the big shows. I won't mention the posing just the lack of back muscle development
Ferrigno should have done three things: 1. Comeback during Haneys era! 2.trained like a maniac for all the years he did not compete. 3. competed for more than just 2 years in a row when he did come back. He called out Haney in 1985 and threatened to come back. If he came in to the 85 Olympia at his 1992 shape and into the 86 Olympia in his 1993 shape, I think he would have placed higher than 12th and 10th, but could have seen him winning after Haney retired.
Labrada and Flavio are enjoying the show.
If Dilett could pose like a normal human he could have won (or at least place 2nd) in the "o". One of the best physiques to never win the "o"

LOU MAY HAVE BEEN 6'5 IIN BETWEEN 1973- 1983 AFTER HULK & HERCULES, THEN HIP SURGERIES TOOK SOME OF HIS HIEGHT

lou always had a great chest ,,,its right what you say all the guys from the 70s seemed to have superior chests ,,,wonder if that had something to do with just using the standard bench press as opposed to all the new machines and equipment that is availablke today ????
I think heavy dumbbell flys are the reason. Nobody does them nowadays
was genetics, many guys back then had wide waist and wide waist individuals are usually torso dominant individuals aka big chest big back

Roy Stone Back in the early 1970's when I was a teenager just starting out it was drilled into us that in order to build a massive chest you had to build a foundation to lay that muscle on. Enter the " breathing squat and light stretching pullover both for high reps [20]. These were done as supersets. These were supposed to help in expanding the ribcage and needed to be done while still young. Once you were finished growing it would be harder or impossible to change much. We did these religiously for years. We also did heavy bench, incline bench, flat and incline fly, and heavy weighted dips, all free weight. No machines or cables. I was able to develop a 52 inch chest at 5'5'' tall. We did heavy back work like old school barbell rows and T-bar rows along with weighted chins both to the front and behind the neck as well. Don't see those exercises done anymore. It takes too much time away from looking at phones to have to change the weights and spot your training partner. I'm 65 and just got back from the gym. Having my post workout protein shake right now. Chicken and rice in about an hour.

Lou ferrigno has genetics has big torso & big bones. Paul dillet might won in his comparison in the end its lou is the real winner. Paul quit bodybuilding at young age & got health problems.while lou retired in bodybuilding continued to workout. Still healthy even at his old age 70's..

Lou was much bigger in his early days and when he played Hulk. He would smoke most bodybuilders in his prime. Longevity Lou beats Paul hands down.

Paul is not 6’4 I’ve met the dude and I’m 6’1 and he was just a smidge taller than me so maybe right at 6’2. This was older Paul so he could have been 6’3 max in his prime he wasn’t no 6’4 tho

Dillett had 1 prime weakness, that was his ignorance. Had he not been so ignorant he could’ve easily fixed 2 secondary weaknesses and be a multiple Mr. O champ: His back wasn’t bad, but it looked bad next to all his other extraordinary body parts. 2nd was his posing, just awful, it always seemed like he spent 5 mins practicing a routine whilst getting ready on competition day. He had no idea how to present an Olympian physique with the great majestic authority that it deserves. Instead he buried a hole for himself several times with his self conscious scrappy and indecisive routine as if he was practicing in front of the bathroom mirror 😂
