Listen to Me Girls, I Am Your Father, kind of has that trope. He’s a brother that adopts his non blood related siblings (I think one of them might be half sibling? Idk) because their parents die. It’s super cute. The only bad part is that he has a friend that has a “lolita complex”. 🤢 so he’s creepy with two of the sisters. Honestly I would kill a man that makes creepy sexual comments about my kid siblings.
There is a well known tumblr thread pointing out that Remmy's character design matches the female rat characters more than the male rat characters (because the movie doesn't do the standard "put boobs on an animal to make it female" thing and has a size dichotomy instead). No, it's not necessarily that he was designed to be trans but you could redo the entire movie with Remmy voiced by Maya Rudolph instead of Patton Oswald and nothing would be any different.
Favorite anime girls: - Disaster lesbians who ruin their own lives again and again - Could kill me, but also has a soft spot - Autistic coded nerds who both struggle with wanting to be known as more than just a nerd Favorite anime boys: -Vash the Stampede from Trigun -Alucard from Hellsing Not those types of characters, just specifically those two characters.
I rarely have any favourite boys I only have two but it’s about super cute and young looking smart boys And I like to think that the reason I like those sort of boys is because I like on what I lack on
IF YOU LIKE HANAKO I HIGHLY RECOMMEND KEMONO JIHEN!! The anime came out this year and it falls into the same problems as tbhk anime just not a severe, but it's also a Supernatural manga with "horror" and a romance subplot! Kon x Kabane and Hananene are honestly my all time comfort ships. They're both so wholesome and innocent and really fall into the "You brought light into my life" trope that I'm a HUGE sucker for.
I would have been so obsessed with this anime when I was a teen! Now that I'm adult it makes me uncomfortable to get too into it because the characters are so young. I hope more romance featuring adults comes out with similar themes so I can go full hyperfixation on it.
Yeah, that’s something I’ll admit I was low key worried about coming across when making this video… …..…I really hope no one ends up thinking I have a crush on Hanako when I say I love him like, he is a child ,:I Anyway, I get that feeling of like, being unable to hyperfixate on anime about teens because it does evoke a weird feeling (Like watching Hanako swallow the mermaid scale does makes me feel super gross ) Also yes, more series about adults please.
If you don't already know about it, Nana is a really good romantic drama where the characters are a little older (i think most are in their 20s, like college age). It is not in any way supernatural though. paradise kiss from the same author also revolves around young adults and follows them over a long period of time (10 years i think). I'm also looking for more romance anime / manga with adult characters so i can keep you updated if i find something good^^
@@xxxfairycorpsexxx7592 I read nana a while back and got too frustrated by it to continue but since that was like a decade ago could be worth a reread lol thanks for the tip
I didn’t realize it was a romance anime/manga until this video. I was more focused on the supernatural stuff than the romance lol. If anything watch it for the plot. maybe i’m dense I was like what great friends:)
The manga for tbhk is amazing. I like that instead of one of the characters falling in love and then you never see the other person fall in love but they do show they are once the other confesses, Aida and Iro made it to where you can see that both Hanako and nene are slowly falling for each other. It’s so cute!
With creative people, the anime you watch in your preteen/teen years pretty much shape your artstyle. I watched a lot of Soul Eater and Sailor Moon so all my characters have beautiful legs
Mine was Pokémon and Little Witch Academia but I also watched Gravity Falls to a frightening amount and Avatar The Last Air binder and Korra I REALLY liked there artsyles not to mention I was influenced by my brother's and friend's art styles So I have a really weird mix of western and and overseas and I'm still changing it to this day
It's the Charismaniacs for me. I love me a good character that's all smirky and is always like five steps ahead of everyone but has that one™️ weakness that forces them to ask for help so genuinely for the first time it shocks everyone. Bonus points if they end up joining the good guys a few time but they're still so damn smug.
“You start looking back on your life and the media you consumed as a child” yeah a while ago I realized I liked the long haired scum bags and looking back,, Valtor from winx club really started everything
Just wanna inform everyone what shota (and loli) means so people won't misunderstand each other while discussing it in the comments. Shota - any male character who *looks* like a prepubescent child Loli - any female character who *looks* like a prepubescent child There are 4 types: *True lolis/shotas* - are fictional children (12 years old or younger) who look like children *Teen lolis/shotas* - are fictional teenagers (13-17) who look like children. *Legal lolis/shotas* - are fictional adults (18+) who look like children *Ancient lolis/shotas* - are fictional characters who look like children despite being 100+ years old *Lolicon and shotacon* are short for loli complex and shota complex. Lolicons and shotacons are people who are sexually and romantically attracted to lolis and shotas. The words loli and shota themselves aren't sexual (unless you add a "con" at the end) because it's just a term for a body type (like how the words sis/sister and bro/brother aren't sexual because they're just a term used for your siblings even if words like siscon/sister complex and brocon/brother complex exist).
That's an interesting shift in meaning, given that the term "loli" comes from Lolita from the eponymous book, who was very much sexualized by the lolicon PoV character. The Shoutarou "shota" is based on, however, seems to actually have innocent origins, with the "shotacon" concept seemingly bolted on after the fact by analogy to "lolicon".
@@SaraWolffs Hmm never knew it directly originated from the book since I always thought it was like this: Lolita novel -> Lolita fashion -> Loli -> Lolicon If you don't know, Lolita fashion is a subculture in japan. It's all about dressing up in victorian clothing and rococo fashion. A lot of people say that it has nothing to do with the novel while some say the name came from it. Their explanation was that the japanese people found the word "Lolita" cute and similar to the word lollipop, meaning they knew about the title of the book but never knew it's story. Perhaps the word "Loli" has the same origins?

Just tell them that it's Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun. If they ask you what that means, just reply "It's about a ghost boy who grants wishes for the living, kinda like Casper the friendly ghost." It's not really a lie sooo...
This actually makes me wanna watch TBHK again, i gave the first three episodes a try and thought it was cool, but now i might check it out again!! also my fave character trope is big, strong muscle-y characters who are rlly dumb but also very kind

TBHK manga readers, welcome to group therapy :) Also my favorite tropes,, for girls is the cold, calculating super smart girl who actually cares deep down, and for boys it’s the dark past bad boys who get crazy amounts of positive character development and become good boys with a heart of gold in the end, and complete idiots 👌👌👌
I love this manga sooo much ! The drawings are so beautiful, and Mitsuba is my favorite character in any fiction. And of course some chapters broke me...
What if all artists are actually gay and that's why romance doesn't feel believable in fiction, unless it's gay? Edit: Actually, This is starting to make a lot of sense.
Funnily enough, my boyfriend is partially color blind and cannot see red. I've tried and tried to convince him to watch it but he genuinely can't make out a lot of the shapes to the point where it just gives him a headache. Damn warm tones! I love you but he has to watch!
Tbh I think the anime actually did decent with how it animated the manga. Hanako-kun's story telling and comedy is so unique, it would be really easy to misstep by just doing continuous shots when the tone changes easily. It just seems remiss when it’s actually properly done to fit with that gothic fairy tale vibe. The story doesn't go for realism, more in that fanatical dream aspect, it's only fitting that the anime keys in on that.
Hanako and yashiro’s relationship is like mine and my crush, we tease each other a lot, we get awkward, we’re in the same friend group but I didn’t get the courage to tell him. I regret it but I’m sure he’d reject me and I still don’t have the courage. It’s useless now though because in my school we have mixed year home rooms for example I was grade 8 he’s was grade 9 but he’s graduated to high school now
TBHK! I love this manga it deserves so much more love. Also yes, manga is suffering. oh god its a joke amongst my friend group that my type is grumpy tsunderes, especially if they have red hair. Silver from pokemon it's all your fault. Not anime but Diluc from Genshin Impact hits like all my boxes and its bad.
You should give Kamisama Hajimaste a try too. It's one of the best romance animes I have seen in a long long time and the character development, chefs kiss.
I do think the anime did a great job on recreating the colors and art style of the manga, but I do think it could do better when it comes to animation Also I’m pretty sure season 2 is coming out this year so *YESS*
A trope that gets me every time for some reason is the mysterious and/or emotionless and/or badass girl who only truly shows herself around her love interest. And good, solid relationships that have mutual trust
Okay, new viewer here and I gotta say I love your deep dive videos so much, but this one is my favorite because you are just so happy to lead with someone you love so much and it just fills me with joy and I just wanna talk more about smiling assholes with you all day.
I really enjoyed this one. Same goes for the videos you did on Utena, which is one of my favourite anime ever. It's a bit sad that they don't get the attention the videos with a more 'negative' focus get. Also, don't let any weirdo harassing you in comments or otherwise discourage you. You are doing great work :)
This anime honestly reminded me why I became a fan of anime in the first place: _the art._ When I was growing up, every anime I saw was based off a hand-drawn manga. The result was each show had such a unique art style that you could tell what anime an _unnamed background character_ was from just by how they were drawn. It was that buffet of visual creativity that drew me into anime.... and it's something that I've been starving for ever since the anime industry shifted to digital animation. I can't _stand_ how 90% of anime made in the past 10 years all use THE EXACT SAME ART STYLE!
@@sableaskew8074 So, for context we find out that Yashiro can only interact with the spirits as well as she can because she's going to die within the next year. It's why she was able to contact Hanako at all. In the most recent chapters, Hanako traded Yashiro's lifespan for that of her best friend, Aoi. To keep it that way so Yashiro can live, Hanako somehow severed the connection of the spirit's access to the living world, sealed any possible way for the bridges in the school. So we see Hanako fading away, it's not the end of the series by a long shot but it's still heavy.
This video had convinced me to give the series a try. After watching the anime and catching up on the manga the only regret I have is that I have to wait for more. Ugh it's just... So good. The designs, the feelings, the characters THE FEELINGS. I am completely at the story's mercy and you are to blame for roping me into this. Thank you.
Tbhk really went from being pretty light to really freaking depressing and it hurts 😭 Also, I like the goofy characters Dazai and Ranpo from BSD, Gojo from JJK ofc, and naturally Hanako is a favorite!
2:09 I'm not gonna lie I forgot everything that happened in that movie for a second and honestly expected you to say there's a gay thing happening with this dude and a rat
Honestly, when I watched TBHK I think that it was just a reawakening of me liking ghost boys. First, the live-action movie for Casper had me in love with him when I was younger, now they brought me this flirty ghost boy with past life trauma and I don't know how to act anymore! 😭✋🏾
I have an unreasonable love for kuudere characters, because seeing a normally expressionless character smile or cry punches me straight in the heart. I'll start smiling, crying, or both, along with them whenever it happens. It's the same with characters who are usually very upbeat and happy, but at some point break down and start crying. I guess there is just something very cathartic to me about seeing someone's façade crumble and them letting out pent up emotions, accepting that they can't keep lying to themselves anymore. ... putting this into words makes me realise that I'm probably seeing myself and my own trauma and inability to openly show my emotions in these characters, and I'm using them as an outlet for slightly opening the tap on my own repressed emotions. I need a hug... and probably a lot of therapy.
Thank you for articulating about the unique and beautiful art! I knew there was something distinctive about it, but couldn't work out what exactly. I thought the anime was cute because of the popping (but softly, not harshly) colours, but now that you mention it, the manga art does have those finer details.
Spoiler-ish? AidaIro's first manga, Dear my living dead makes me SO worried for Yashiro because of it's ending, and the whole situations between the supernaturals has me sobbing so hard.
@@veeinconfusion Hanako already deeply regrets his first murder, killing Yashiro would make him drown into the bottom of his regret and guilt with no hope of saving him.

BUT, this video describes what i felt in such a relatable way that i was so impressed,I was a sucker for the colour pallete too, I felt in love with Hanako as well (who didnt) the mystery atmosthere complemented the romance with such perfection that even after one year that I read the manga i still cant let go of the butterflys in my stomach just from remembering some scenes. The only bad part is that he has a friend that has a “lolita complex”. 🤢 so he’s creepy with two of the sisters. Honestly I would kill a man that makes creepy sexual comments about my kid siblings.
i also absolutely love mitsuba and kou's relationship, whether it's romantic or platonic.
Fr I *love* when relationships ambiguously teeter on the line between romantic & platonic (looking at you KuroKen)
Same (sorry for notifying you 2 years later)
There is a well known tumblr thread pointing out that Remmy's character design matches the female rat characters more than the male rat characters (because the movie doesn't do the standard "put boobs on an animal to make it female" thing and has a size dichotomy instead). No, it's not necessarily that he was designed to be trans but you could redo the entire movie with Remmy voiced by Maya Rudolph instead of Patton Oswald and nothing would be any different.
why did you put out that idea. Now I crave ratatouille with Remmy voiced by Maya Rudolph. It would be an experience to remember.
Hanako kun:
Anime: it's okay
Manga: OMG YESS
Favorite anime girls:

- Could kill me, but also has a soft spot
- Autistic coded nerds who both struggle with wanting to be known as more than just a nerd
Favorite anime boys:
-Vash the Stampede from Trigun

13:31 Yep, that’s the Hanako-kun manga experience! Reading this and Houseki no Kuni - oh god it hurts so good!
Hey it's not that bad, at least jshk gave us doritos to eat during the 10 000 year hiatus :)
My mind went to Houseki No Kuni as well watching this, okay I need to check out the manga now.
Of Hanako, I've Read HNK
@@gnrngkcntnf They made us cry and depressed because of doritos, that's some goat skill 😭
I haven’t read the manga for Hanako-Kun yet but oh god I love Houseki no Kuni and am now very concerned to read Hanako-Kun
Yeah, that’s something I’ll admit I was low key worried about coming across when making this video…
…..…I really hope no one ends up thinking I have a crush on Hanako when I say I love him like, he is a child ,:I
Anyway, I get that feeling of like, being unable to hyperfixate on anime about teens because it does evoke a weird feeling (Like watching Hanako swallow the mermaid scale does makes me feel super gross )
Also yes, more series about adults please.

It's the Charismaniacs for me. I love me a good character that's all smirky and is always like five steps ahead of everyone but has that one™️ weakness that forces them to ask for help so genuinely for the first time it shocks everyone. Just wanna inform everyone what shota (and loli) means so people won't misunderstand each other while discussing it in the comments.
Shota - any male character who *looks* like a prepubescent child
Loli - any female character who *looks* like a prepubescent child
There are 4 types:
*True lolis/shotas* - are fictional children (12 years old or younger) who look like children
*Teen lolis/shotas* - are fictional teenagers (13-17) who look like children.
*Legal lolis/shotas* - are fictional adults (18+) who look like children
*Ancient lolis/shotas* - are fictional characters who look like children despite being 100+ years old
*Lolicon and shotacon* are short for loli complex and shota complex.
@@SaraWolffs Hmm never knew it directly originated from the book since I always thought it was like this:
Lolita novel -> Lolita fashion -> Loli -> Lolicon
If you don't know, Lolita fashion is a subculture in japan.
I knew from the first sentence about conflicting feelings/thoughts on romance in media that we were in for a fantastic discussion in this video. Just tell them that it's Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun. If they ask you what that means, just reply "It's about a ghost boy who grants wishes for the living, kinda like Casper the friendly ghost." It's not really a lie sooo...
@Hanamaru Maru The problem is that they still have to order it, so they’d still have to know the full title.

HANAKO LOVES NENE AAAAAAA
It’s useless now though because in my school we have mixed year home rooms for example I was grade 8 he’s was grade 9 but he’s graduated to high school now
As someone who is also reading the toilet bound Hanako manga i have one thing to say.

Also, don't let any weirdo harassing you in comments or otherwise discourage you. You are doing great work :)
This anime honestly reminded me why I became a fan of anime in the first place: _the art._
When I was growing up, every anime I saw was based off a hand-drawn manga.
Laughs in having read the most recent manga chapters.
What happened?
@@sableaskew8074 Do you reallly want spoilers?
@@irachan3978 yeah
@@sableaskew8074 So, for context we find out that Yashiro can only interact with the spirits as well as she can because she's going to die within the next year. It's why she was able to contact Hanako at all.
In the most recent chapters, Hanako traded Yashiro's lifespan for that of her best friend, Aoi. To keep it that way so Yashiro can live, Hanako somehow severed the connection of the spirit's access to the living world, sealed any possible way for the bridges in the school.
So we see Hanako fading away, it's not the end of the series by a long shot but it's still heavy.
Oh gosh no why-
Can we talk about how Hanako loves Yashiro’s hair, ankles (her biggest insecurity), and holds her hand a lot (his favorite part of the body)
Thank you.

Honestly, when I watched TBHK I think that it was just a reawakening of me liking ghost boys. First, the live-action movie for Casper had me in love with him when I was younger, now they brought me this flirty ghost boy with past life trauma and I don't know how to act anymore! 😭✋🏾
Bakugo is not even smiling, never, he just scream, all the time
The love story of Kou and double-dead Mitsuba is even better
I need a hug... and probably a lot of therapy.
literally every anime you've talked about on this channel i've given a watch and every single one of them are amazing?? like god damn u dont miss

Thank you for articulating about the unique and beautiful art! I knew there was something distinctive about it, but couldn't work out what exactly.
