  • If you have a 7.3 you probably share the same frustration as I have for the limited amount of aftermarket add ons. Thankfully AFE has a CAI option that not only looks good but actually performs. Brought to you as always unsponsored and none biased.

It is, but there is gains that can be gained with cold air. In most cases… im remote tuner. These modern v8 have more compression than older V8 from early 2000s , these moden v8 Chevy/Ford/Ram love more air and benefit from cold air and make more power.

Leaving those plugs off the new box seems to be counter productive. Yes it allows more air, but now you are allowing "hot" air in, the one thing you don't want.

The problem with doing power add ons with the engine is the ecm does not react well to the changes. the ecm will not learn to adjust and compensate. So it defeats the whole purpose of doing this. Adding a power programmer or hard programming the ecm would be the only way to change this

I agree, a tune is the best way to utilize any of these “upgrades.” Otherwise you’ll be like me with little to no noticeable difference in performance or efficiency.

the stock filter pulls cold air from the grill you can see the scoop coming up from the box. Ive seen numbers on the stock box vs various cold air intake kits. Its a waste of money, they flow nearly the same amount of air. If you really want performance install a K&N filter on your stock intake. The engineers at ford are more than capable of designing an optimum intake design.

I understand what you’re saying and I say yes and no. In my case, since my truck is not tuned it’s pretty much pointless as you mentioned however with a tune that takes advantage of the less restricted tubing/filter it can make a difference. I saw no increase of fuel efficiency however did notice a slight difference in throttle response but not worth $500. Thank you for taking the time to comment and for watching!

Yes indeed! I’m still a little nervous about a tune to be honest but yeah that the direction I’m heading. Five-star tuning has some stuff for the 7.3 already. I don’t want a race truck however ha. If I got it tuned I would want a eco mode, maybe a performance towing, and perhaps maybe a fun tune to see what she would do.
