I find the margins on books very small. Unless it's a rare book there's always other sellers with the same book so you basically compete on price.

Not in Australia! Watch one of Mel's videos where she shows the books she's ready to pack and ship and you'll be shocked at the prices they go for!

This has been my favorite Daily Refinement video that I've seen thus far. I loved the brain storming so much, I am both fully humbled at the tiny, microscopic level of a business I'm currently running and also completely amped to smash my death pile and move up to the next level.

I do a lot of prel listings Using the draft feature to get huge slush of listings and just finish and go live in waves every day. That way I can review my listings fix errors and shipping . Only a idea that works 4 me. Like now I am processing books toys etc scanning them in and saving to draft.

Appreciate all the videos Chris as i make them daily on facebook as well just not on youtube yet! I dont fully have youtubes format down yet meaning how often i should put up videos and what the title should be cause i know youtube has specifics that stick out just like ebay does with titles again thanks guys and i would love to go live sometime with you chris. I have been reselling for about a year now and listing about 20 items a day

So glad we moved out of the rat race and bought a home in the country. No chasing our tails any more and since ebay helped us pay the home off 3yr ago - we had to find somewhere to buy an investment property to put our ebay income into as it was burning a hole in our pockets.

Books are hard to sell because seller 1 has a Lee Child book and seller two has exactly the same book same condition etc so a buyer will just buy from the cheapest seller ..This is why I prefer one off items .I can name my price and the buyer has to pay if they want it ..The down side is you don't sell as many items per day so your cash flow can be squeezed and you can end up sitting on a lot of dead stock if your not careful you also need to have quite a wide knowledge of products and prices when buying

Sell for less but move volume always wins, larger premises cost high overheads, Run it on taxes, Australian tax is a killer ABN@28% -ACN@30% GST@10% , need a great accountant 😉 best time now to help your business grow, company goods tax write off, Now is the time to scale if u doing 100k a year, covid19 in Australia should be growing in sales, know the post well, get tier5 and apply for contract with auspost, I know its not easy for a contract, but it can be done just needs time, either u stay below 300k aud a year in sales or u just out right smash it as taxes hit 48% after 300k, yes for now printout labels will be cheaper if u concentrate on a contract its maybe about 30% cheaper then ebay cost for postage, you need to register an business account and link every dispatch to business account to keep records, once you're consistent just approach auspost and ask them i wanting a contract

Has she thought about changing her sourcing to online only? I used to do bulk books and ran into the same issues as she's going through. I only buy online, use a prep center and haven't touched a book in 2 years. My business is automated, I just check in with the prep center and my sorcerers.

Great Mastermind. Learned a lot of how to look at my processes. Maybe for holiday something I been mixing amazon fba so cashflow is still rolling in when I like to hit the road. Just started this processes so front loading inventory has been a task. I love that she has a exact niche. Time myself for my time.

My take away from this conversation: “You need some freedom to think” ~ Mental Real State. I really understand where she is coming from. Definitely family does take away time from business and viceversa . It’s hard. Specially when you stop working a conventional 8-5 job because you wanted more life-work balance. Then you find yourself working 60 + hrs and still have the same issue and taking vacation time is now harder to schedule without having all your year’s work to plummet. It’s not easy. You really need to want it, work it. I am starting my store now. I am starting to feed the beast, but one day I will be the beast !! 😂 I wish good luck to all, hope we all make it !👍🏻🙌🙌

If you're recommending she sell all of those $5 books, it makes me want to tear my hair out. You supported Hustle and Slow in her not listing anything under $15. I adopted that model and it was such a relief. I am drowning in books, because I take donations from a lot of pro organizers. I have to research each one before I can list it. Some are lifetime libraries. To draw that $15 line and let a lot of them go felt great. I'm in school, writing my fifth book, learning guitar, recording my first book for Audible... I am only one person. Now you're saying $5? I don't get it. It completely contradicts what Hustle & Slow said. Can you clarify, please?

Mel is working 70 hours a week selling 50 books for $10 profit and he recommends her selling 100 books for $5 profit so basically doubling her work load for the the same money ....double stock more hours ... Not sure this advice is correct to be honest .

About $20,000 to lift the invedtment house up and build under. Doubles the floor area for a fraction of the cost.

To the guest about renting. Ask for a one longer period of time and get lower rents. It doesnt hurt to be asking for lower rent if you promise the landlord to be there for a long period it could give you a much better position or find something else and scale it down. It takes to much profit from making your pontentiel vacation in the future. Many biz-people do this negotiations. You will have more time off and the cost per item will be lower and also the price.

Don't get me wrong it's making money for me but I haven't taken it to the next level as that thought keeps me from hiring staff getting a warehouse and scaling etc. I think it's a major fear and reality a lot of sellers have. One simply has to read horror stories all over forums

When you bought another ebay store you said your listings jumped from 7,000 to 11,000. Do you run the stores separately? Is this a combined total? How would you transfer almost 4000 listings to your current store?
