    You could call it an "ember" shader because it would work for hot coals/embers.

      That's what I want to use it for. What factors would you use to animate it? Not just the strength, because that would look like a simple pulsing. How would you make spots here and there glowing brighter then fading, like embers?

    I’m no stranger to this shader setup, but I love the added value of the node group thing. That’s a great tip! It’s so clutch... is that even a word anymore? Lol. It’s not just a “quick tip” 🤣🤣

    Really helpful! should probably mention that Ambient Occlusion and Bloom need to be checked in the scene menue, as mine were both turned off automatically for some reason. but this is definitely a really great tutorial! thank you so much for sharing with the community!

    I was making some glowing eyes and then I added layer weight and it looks like the eyes are following me, its so cool

    Whoa!! I used to just do this with Fresnel and Emission, but this gives you a lot more control!! I should definitely try it, thanks~

    A very similar approach but making the Principled transparent (and possibly just having index of refraction of 1.0), could produce a X-Ray style effect.

    ik im late but something else you can do is instead of using a principled bsdf you can use a transparent bsdf and it looks cooler

    I played around with this, adding a connection to the emission colour of the BSDF Shader as well as well for an interesting effect. This is a nice foundation for a few interesting effects.

    This is great, i messed around with the colorramp and got the dark and emissive parts to switch, so the eye i was trying to make has a glowing pupil that follows the camera.
