Most people will take a pill, receive an injection, or otherwise take some kind of medicine during their lives. But most of us don’t know anything about how these substances actually work. How can various compounds impact the way we physically feel, think, and even behave? Sara Garofalo explains how some drugs can alter the communication between cells in the brain.

Bruh they showed this at some drug/vaping presentation at my school’s auditorium today and I remember me and a few friends were holding in our laughter because how hilarious this animation looked to us. I don’t know why but at 0:38 we just burst out laughing because all we saw was a little blue thing just sliding down like it wants to die inside. Everyone else chuckled at it but we were just dying, like on the floor in tears.

I understood everything until neurotransmitters, then I just watched the rest while being pleased by the animation. It was a great video and I'm really interested in this but I don't know why I've been loosing focus so quickly. I will rewatch this tomorrow as I really want to understand it. I enjoy this kind of content on UA-cam and look forward to more videos.

I'm in Pharmaceutical School and there are so many little details to every single thing the video talks about...I miss it when learning about drugs and medicines was as simple as a TED Video 😭
I happened to watch an episode in Breakthrough S02 in National Geographic Channel where LSD was used to combat any form of addiction (drug, alcohol, tobacco). The results were kind of promising as the subjects of the treatment reported better mental state and were able to put their addiction at bay for several months

@3:50 Psychedelics BLOCK the release of serotonin? Can we have a source on this? In every publication I have ever read, these molecules are described as serotinin agonists, that is, a molecule that is similar to serotonin, and binds to serotonin receptors, so the effect is not due to blocking serotonin, but exciting these neurons by mimicking it.

but my question is, does it reach your brain quickly if you inject it in your neck as compared to injecting it in your leg? just for scientific purposes. promeeeese
Tell Me This it takes 2 min longer in ur example so yes
Tell Me This If it's injected in a vein (intravenously), it won't make much of difference since both injection sites lead to very rapid distribution of the drug in the blood stream. However, if you inject the substance in fat tissue under the skin (usually the case when drugs are being injected in the leg), then it will have a much slower effect because it has to reach the blood stream by diffusion first before it can take action in the brain.

I'm of the opinion that psychedelics have the potential to bridge the gap between what we think of as the material world and our "souls". There really needs to be a lot more research done, and the "war on drugs" really screwed any notion of understanding the intricacies of these substances, and how people could use them to better understand the spiritual elements of the experience and gain a deeper understanding of what dictates the motion of our spirits and personalities.
No, I have taken acid, and it just makes you understand the universe, it taps into knowledge and understanding, not the soul.
