NOVA investigates the story of cannabis from the criminalization that has disproportionately harmed communities of color to the latest medical understanding of the plant. I'm 68 years old and smoked weed since I was 17. Almost every day! I was USAF, banking and a nurse and at no time did my smoking interfere with my family or careers. I worked 36 years and am now retired in my home I purchased with enough income to suffice. Got my weed right here.... So glad I've lived to see it become legal in Illinois!

I'm 17, have had a medical card for the last year, and finished highschool early and started college 2 years ago. I'm working towards a Ph.D in Anthropology with an emphasis on Archaeology. All while smoking weed almost every day. People who say it makes them lazy and unmotivated are more likely just stuck in a lazy unmotivated state of mind that's perpetuated by the use of thc all day every day. However, in those of us who are motivated and enjoy learning and being productive, marijuana (in moderation) is a great way to unwind at the end of the day, or give you a bit of a pickup/creativity boost (depending on the strain). If anything smoking weed has deepened my interests in ancient civilizations and the many cultures in the world. It's great seeing first hand that long term hard work and cannabis use can go hand in hand and I'm not just gonna burn out in the next few years 😂
Hi Cathy. Im 55 smoked everyday since I was 14. I am healthy and people say I look young for my age.
I've also had a productive and interesting life, and my IQ has increased over the years. I found weed really enhances my creativity and my mind is very open to new ideas and possibilities.
Ive always grown but now I've just received my first legal medical 💚
Im also so happy to see its finally becoming legal here in Australia

Too true ive smoked it for years if used correctly it will never harm you if you need too much then there's a chance of you breaking down ..... it's all about the amount we smoke but some people want to abuse it and parts of it are being tested as an antibiotic for the lungs so i was told

It has many rherapeutic values but the side effects can be crippling. I used it for years for anxiety and ptsd. I am now 70 years old
and my brain and mind is affected. I feel high eveyday and not very alert.

I could remember several years ago I was diagnosed with ADHD. Also suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my mom recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms
Congrats on your recovery. Most persons never realizes psilocybin can be used as a miracle medication to save lives. Years back i wrote an entire essay about psychedelics. they saved you from death bud, lets be honest here.
Can you help me with the reliable source. I'm 64 and have suffered for years with addiction, anxiety and severe ptsd, I got my panic attacks under control myself years ago and they have come back with a vengeance, I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't get the full satisfying breath out, it's absolutely crippling me, i live in Greece. I don't know much about these mushrooms. Really need a reliable source!! Can't wait to get them

I hate that psilocybin gets grouped with drugs like cocaine and heroin. Mushrooms are a remedy, not a vice! I went on a microdose treatment for a couple of months and within the first week, every sight of a cigarette got me questioning why I was doing all that to myself. It really works
childhood. It was relentless. I assumed it would ultimately end me somehow. About twelve years ago I randomly accepted the offer from a friend of a few doses of mushrooms. I did them two consecutive nights alone. First night was pretty mild. The second night? Wow. I saw my depression from every angle, realized much. Next day: depression totally gone. Never came back, never coming back. It's like it's a forest far away I can remember, and could probably find again with enough effort, but it has zero impact on anything in my life or mind. They honestly saved my life and improved it immensely. I never did them again, either. I wish there was a good, organized way to administer them to people who would benefit from them
I had cancer when I was a teenager and smoking weed was the only thing that helped with the nausea I had from chemotherapy. Cannabis is now entirely legal in all of Canada. I have three high quality cannabis shops within walking distance of my apartment in Toronto. They are government licensed and regulated. I know exactly what I'm buying and what doses, and I know it is good quality. The people against legalization of cannabis should explain why they are for the legalization of cigarettes and alcohol and not cannabis.
Same story here... in france. The judge that jailed this guy that fought for his countty should be sued for kidnapping. That judge is a criminal and should be locked up.

My grandad had PTSD from WWII and he suffered with nightmares and insomnia until I got him to try cannabis when he was 64 and it helped him so much he used it every day until his death at 99.
My grandfather, my father and nearly myself died from alcohol-related issues. Had we been able to use cannabis, things may have turned out differently. I know it would have for me. I only used alcohol when I couldn't get weed, or my job didn't allow it. All three of us were also in the military: my grandfather in WW2, my father in Vietnam and I fought in Iraq.
I once had PSTD but it went away when I came down with Dyslexia.

I started smoking cannabis at the age of 15 got addicted for over 9 years, with so much depression and anxiety. After trying out a psilocybin treatment, I will be 3 years clean. Psilocybin treatment actually saved me from depression and addiction. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.
After doing some research on the psilocybin benefits, I honestly want to get into shroom microdosing but it's just so hard to get a reliable source. Really need!

was addicted to what i called a trifecta Meth, Opium, Alcohol. I also suffered severe depression i went to a party and consumed about 2 eights of shrooms i was lost in my head for 2 days but when i came back my depression and addiction to my trifecta was gone. I didn't realize it at the time. The psychedelic experience is temporary but many people have good permanent results

I'm 70 and been smoking since I was 20. I waited till my baby was born. Then I started still going to this day or night. Relaxes me helps me sleep relieves a lot of pain and I've never been a drinker.

Weed is one of the only drugs you can’t overdose from, along with some other psychedelics, gotta be careful though, it can make you lazy and forgetful like technology and age lol.

Thats great to hear. To me I look at cannabis as honestly an additional perk of being alive on this planet. Helps with so many things though out the day. I am 37 now but I see myself being a lifelong partaker of cannabis
A man once told me about his daughter who was injured in car accident as a young child. She began to have 50+ seizures per day from that accident. The medicine the doctors gave her did next to nothing and cost the family and insurance over $10,000.00 per month.
After taking out a second mortgage this man ended up speaking about this issue with an older man who he described as a old Hippie (in the kind way, not as a derogatory term). The Hippie gave this man a few joints and said have your daughter smoke these and she will improve right away. The man took the joints home, his daughter had a couple of hits each night and the seizures dropped down to just a couple per day and they were very mild.
Of course the joints ran out. So this father started sourcing more for his daughter. She has taken just a hit or two before bed each night since and her seizures are gone. She was able to grow into a fully functioning adult with a complete and happy life.
It breaks my heart to see the boy in this story who has permanent brain damage from not getting access to Cannabis.
In my own experience, being at parties, the people smoking pot were just happy go lucky, talked about deep subjects and could sober up in time to drive home with no issues. The people drinking however got aggressive, loose and frequently vomited. Not always in the toilet either. They had to be fought with to not drive or the cops had to be called on them. I have never felt at risk around people smoking pot. But I was almost raped by a drunk man and had way too many unwanted, aggressive advances forced on me by drunks.
It heals,thank god,no migranes and I sleep longer now.

HEAD Trauma prepubescent is not only permanent , flashbacks no matter how sober trigger easy. Cannabinoid slows down ( aggressive thinking ) for lack of a better term. I realized though " it can cause a negative reaction and should NOT be Normalised.

Hi Cathy, I'm 60 years old and have been smoking since 18 yrs old. I have a successful career to look back on, raised a lovely son, and I'm looking forward to becoming a grandmother in about 2 weeks. I don't drink alcohol, nor do I take any meds regularly, I'm healthy and happy. cheers from Switzerland.
Sean's story is heartbreaking. He served in the military and suffered mental injuries and the country he gave his youth to protect jails him for treating his injuries with a plant that grows in nature. Insane!

You remind me of Cpl. Ronald J. Francis who died by suicide in Kingsclear First Nation, on October 6 of 2014 at 43. Harper was ruling Canada back then and he couldn't tolerate a mountie smoking his joint in red serge although perfectly legal (as a prescription), nor did the rest of RCMP like that it appears, so this PTSD victim was followed and even provoked - which he did complained about before they "found" him dead.

As a California resident with a degree in horticulture and 15 years of experience growing cannabis and searching for CBD heavy strains I’m about to quit and leave the country. I’m only allowed six plants now by county regulation. Not allowed to start a business and a farm similar to a grape farmer and winery. The laws are being made for corporations who don’t care about anything but profit. It’s a complete joke.
Treat growing cannabis and the industry in general like the wine industry and allow people to succeed in their passions

I can't say that I am disappointed in California. They have heavy water needs, and shouldn't be using it on crops not used in food.
Basketball Jones (loved the song, kiddo), the regulations are ridiculous, and impossible to make anything out of what you are allowed to grow right now. Even horticultural growing of hemp for non ingestion is impossible given the stigma of misunderstanding a PLANT. They also are requiring huge upfront money holdings (to guarantee payment to the government) . It's crazy.
Move to Colorado. There's HUGE hemp farms here. So much so, trying to do an outdoor grow for self medicine often finds your plants pollenated.
That pretty much applies to all industries.
Try growing and selling Tomatoes on a business level without government permission.
We need a reform of small business laws.

Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac.

Started smoking at 12, I am 31 now. I have graduated high school, obtained my associates degree in IT with honors and on presidents list with almost a 4.0 GPA. I now have a good job, my own house and 2 kiddos. Weed has never stopped me from being all I can be. I control it, it doesn't control me.
I started at 12 also. Sadly, I became an opioid addict. I became addicted, not because weed was the gateway drug but because doctors prescribed them to me, and it was me going back to weed later in life that helped me to get off what became heroin addiction. It was the gateway out. Weed has so many possibilities to help people in different ways. It definitely shouldn't be demonized like it has been.

I smoke for about 25 years, daily. I sleep better, eat good, feel like doing the house chores, I don't have chaotic nightmares anymore.
But even without all this, I love the taste and feeling. Many people drink, but when I say I smoke weed it's suddenly weird.
Any mistake or misspoken word, and it's because "you're high".
People using cannabis aren't bothering others. Now let's put that next to alcohol : numerous bar/street fights, traffic accidents, abusive relatives, divorces, aggression at sports games, or in a plain on the way to a holiday destination. Or alcohol while on hard drugs.
The amount of problems alcohol has caused, is unmeasurable. I've been around all sorts of drug users, they are more careful in general.
Because going to far can kill you. Not the drugs itself, but the lack of food, water and sleep.
I smoked pot every day two or three times a day for 40 years and I finally quit and I have never felt better in my entire life.

My friend suggested me L-Theanine ($5+ in Walmart). It's supposed to relax you for a whole day. Please Google.
The moodiness goes away in a few weeks. Drinking caffeine helps especially if you have ADD. Black or green teas. Good luck.

I was medically discharged from the military this year. The day I left base I went straight to the dispensary. I had never really smoked cannabis before so I had a budtender give me a run down. I smoked flower for the first time that night, and every night since. Cannabis has helped me so much for my mental and physical health. I am down 30 lbs, a straight A student, and currently in the most meaningful relationship I have ever been in. It wasn't just the cannabis, but I know it helped.

I was furiously angry for 23 years (after a TBI). I was diagnosed with intermittent explosive disorder. I was prescribed cannabis 6 years ago and haven't had a single blow out since. I feel happy again. This plant greatly improved the quality of my life, and the lives of the people around me.

So basically, weed calms you down and prevents you from acting like a petulant child. After 6 years, you should have been looking for therapy and other means to fix your issue, rather than using marijuana as a crutch. The documentary actually addressed this. Have you tried other means of help?
This is spectacular. My last doc, before I moved...said..."I wish they'd change that Schedule 1, so we COULD study this...there's at least 90 drugs we could be using"....

Much like Sean, I have PTSD and couldn't really sleep at night for years because of the night terrors and generally always being anxious that something bad was about to happen. After starting to use cannabis, I can finally get full nights of sleep. I know cannabis is not a cure all but it changed my life, much like it changed Sean's and it helped reduce allot of my symptoms related to PTSD.
100 years from now, kids are going to learn in history class that people were locked up for cannabis. And these kids will be dumbfounded why this was ever illegal.

We have legal weed here in Canada, now. I never thought I would see a world where I can legally walk down the street with smoking a doobie!
The system they created though is a complete farce! The rules they put in place make it so you need a boatload of cash just to get a greenhouse started as every aspect is heavily regulated and controlled. They didn't allow the black market growers into the system so most of the people growing "legal" weed were amateurs and there were mold issues and quality issues from the start. Since they didn't create a system to allow those black market growers in (guys who have been grower for decades, with tons of knowledge and experience), we still have an enormous black market, thankfully! Quality and price is far superior to the overly dry crap they sell at the legal dispensaries. Price is at least double what I can by it for and sometimes even closer to triple the price. Weed is so dry it usually grinds to a dust, making it sh!t to smoke!

❤ I have a friend who is 58. She has been a cannabis consumer since she was 13. She was born a scrawny, sickly kid, and she swears it saved her life. She said at 13 she weighted 93 pounds at 5'5". That she hurt all over, and had frequent headaches, and not appetite. She said cannabis stopped the headaches. Helped with the body aches. And helped her gain and maintain some weight. And had helped her for 45 years. I started as a consumer at 27. It has also helped me with pain & loss of appetite with hypothyroidism.
Cannabis isn't for everyone. Some people have a negative reaction. I am fortunate, having enjoyed Cannabis since 1969. Being older now, I use edibles. Using Cannabis helps with my arthritis, and enhances my life. Good medicine
I smoked cannabis for 22 years between the age of 18 and 40. It helped me cope with everything. I have been smoking again as of the age of62, I am 65 now with No Major problems, heart, lungs, everything is good, I feel like I am in my 40s
i wondered during the piece why the researchers didn't include long time smokers---street smokers if you will cuz that's how ya got it till the gov started opening shop. seems like there could be some learning when it comes to "long term use" and all that from a population that never saw what the big whup was about smoking to begin with....peace.
That's interesting, because lots of my hippie friends who started smoking around the same age and stopped when they got professional are starting to smoke again after ten to twenty years of abstinence.
@@PrimoStracciatella Yep! Now that the stigma is going away, they feel less likely to suffer career impacts. Also most businesses have stopped random drug testing. So I see it also…
Lawyers, judges, professors, engineers…for the most part, they use it for comfort, and don’t abuse it like some folks. They are tired of alcohol and pills it seems. I like the trend. They are better friends and easier to be around these days.
@@PrimoStracciatella Quit when I was twenty and started again when I was 50. I'm 61 this month and smoke about a joint a day, somedays a little more. I find it helps to dull my anxieties. I run 6k most days. It does not affect my physical health or make me lazy. Some people think it makes them lazy. It does the opposite for me. Peace to you and your "hippie friends."

I'm 61 years old, and suffer from Complex PTSD from an abusive upbringing. I wasn't physically abused; it was all emotional abuse and neglect. I drank myself to sleep for years. I tried antidepressants, going sober for months at a time while meditating and doing yoga, etc...but it wasn't until I regularly started using cannabis that I was able to feel emotions other than fear, guilt and shame. I can sleep. I can eat. For me, it absolutely saved my life.

Your story is very similar to mine I’m 63 years old and I to suffer from complex PTSD or do you use cannabis on a regular basis it helps me with that and it also helps me with my arthritis it’s a lifesaver God bless you

I started regularly smoking weed at 17 during treatment for cancer, I lost my appetite and it helped me get back to normal quickly
I’ve been smoking regularly ever since and I’m still here 45 years later!
I smoked weed almost every single day for probably 40 years and it never really interfered much with my life. Loved it! However for work purposes I had to quit for a while and once I got off of it I realized how much I liked being sober and I have never smoked since.
I used to make edibles for my late wife who was suffering from Alzheimer's, granted this won't work for everyone but I can say from experience that she got lots of relief from it, I'll never understand why a person can't grow a patch for their own use and keep it to themselves if it works for them
Same for my father. It is the best medicine for many things.
It just surprisingly got legalized here in VA to grow for personal use, but no buying or selling, or retail stores for a few years.
The politics of money and power is the root of all confusion and nonsense. Just like the Oklahoma land grab of the 1800's when thousands of people lined up at the Oklahoma boarder waiting for the official gun shot so they could race into the state to stake their claim on prime land. The cannibus industry is waiting for that green light from the feds to start the profit machine rolling.
vote libertarian if you want to be able to make choices like that for yourself. vote republican if you want to live in a police state. vote democrat if you want to live in a nanny police state. all you have to do is look at which political party is fighting to reduce the amount of reach government has. sure as hell wont be "small party" "conservatives"...

At least you guys over in America have it legalized in some states. Here in Sweden it's still super illegal. It's even illegal to have it in your blood. Only a minority of Swedes, maybe 30-35%, wants it legalized as the propaganda is stuck in the 1980's still.

Ahh a subject near to my heart! I've been growing since it was made legal. I'm sorry to those who can't wait for the research. I speak for me, and me alone! It saved my life from opioid addiction caused by being abused as a child/ptsd.
We are over ran with REHABS here in Ky. They are a cash product. They refuse to talk to you about cannabis. There is no VULGAR profit in healthy people. That is why you need prescriptions to counter the side effects of the first pill.
I quit recently, but I smoked weed every day for 4 years; held down a full time job, never got in trouble, never hurt anyone.
I drink now & then (when I go out etc’) and I can absolutely guarantee without any hesitation, it has caused me & those around me more trouble than weed ever did (fights, falling out, missing work).
I don’t think I’ll ever go back to smoking weed, I feel far better for having given it up, but to outlaw it while alcohol is still total legal is insane.

I was involved in a bad workplace accident not long ago. Took me a long hard time to get off the opioids I was prescribed. Cannabis really helped me with the pain, as well as nightmares. Only problem now that I am ready to work again is that I have to wait 2 months for my system to clear up. Yet drinking alcohol right after work is totally acceptable. Backwards ass system we have.
Yeah, and ironically drinking is probably the worst thing to do before you go to sleep. Then the poor quality of sleep you get leads you to be more irritable, and thus more likely to drink again.
Youre so right! The politics of this is ridiculous. Fortunately in NY the Governor just signed into law that no employer can test for marijuana in a drug test unless its for a federal job or law enforcement. Hopefully change will continue to happen and other states will adopt what NY has done with employment, especially since marijuana can last in the system for up to 30 says. Fingers crossed!

I wouldn't say anyone can grow it because it sure as hell takes a lot of money to get a decent grow set up indoors. All the items like the tent, lights, soil/ hydro equipment, fans, humidity and temperature sensors and on top of that you have to be able to identify nutrient problems correctly. People make it out to be real simple but if you've ever grown it yourself you know it takes money to make a decent product and to solve some of the issues you may face while growing.

I've been a heavy, daily user for 25 years and it's helped my insomnia I had as a child and into my teens , I'm high functioning autistic and I swear it has helped in so many ways, especially keeping calm...I enjoy using 100% thc oil, land race buds with more of a mix of cannabinoids, strong or mellow weed and I like cooking with it. I used to take cbd tablets before bed but really didn't see any difference in my health for the price (UK). But I have a great life and career and although a lot was from hard work, cannabis has always been a help and a joy. Just waiting for the UK to catch up with the USA when it comes to legalisation...I'm getting older and it's looking like it'll never happen. Great documentary.
I've experimented with both CBD gummies and Delta-8 gummies, and I feel that I've gotten a good idea of what is right for me, a 300lb guy in his 50's. For me, it's 25mg, which is often one gummy. I ONLY ONCE took 50mg, and that's akin to the elephant and hippo BOTH sitting on my chest at once. For me, smoking is OUT, so gummies have been a real blessing.

In summary: weed should still be illegal till more complete studies have been performed; justice system not broken as ppl willingly choose to brake laws and deserve the consequences they inflicted on themselves (if you brake the law stop complaining as its your fault for being a criminal) ; different forms of weed have different effects so don't ignorantly say smoking it is the same as all other forms. Only positive studies are when ppl ingest it not smoke it.

An old boss of mine was an all day joint smoker for 30 plus years and when he gave it up cold turkey it was the nicotine cravings that were the hardest by a country mile. I love when I'm chatting with people opposed to weed, and they've got a beer in their hand, and are half in the bag. Makes me chuckle! People love to get a booze buzz, and to share their hangover stories, and that's all good and socially accepted, but there's still a stigma around weed. I know that's changing, but I still encounter it. I don't have the stats, but I would think booze has destroyed many more lives and families than weed ever has. Just can't understand the hypocrisy.

I've wondered that same thing for a long time. I've also noticed ALOT of politicians and judge's are alcholics, so no wonder why when it comes to drinking and driving people get a slap on the wrist unles its a fatal crash.
Oral CBD sprays up here in Canada usually come in MCT oil, which allows a much lower dose to be absorbed fast into the system. My father had a cerebral accident some years ago, and has been suffering from neuropathy ever since, where a slight brush on his skin to him now feels like an intense burn, and has constant pain in his right arm... He's 82, and already on a whole bunch of pills, most of which he takes in the morning... I bought him some MCT+CBD oral spray, and with as little as 5mg of CBD (two sprays), after dinner, he immediately (within the hour) feels less pain in his arm. I told him to start low dose to see if he had any side effects. The main issue now is tolerance, it works for 2-3 days but then has no effect until he stops using it for a day or two. He wasn't sure how much he could take so he just left it at that. I just told him to bring up the dose until he gets the effect he wants, and that he could basically chug the whole bottle and nothing bad would happen...
For the record, he was prescribed some THC pills before by his doctor, so it's not a danger with his current meds, but he didn't like it because it made him feel loopy and paranoid (my dad never smoked weed before).

I'm in same situation as Eugene , I smashed myself up , was put on fistfuls of opiates , they funked my head up , made me feel no pain , when I should have been relaxing for a year , I was careering about like superman . I grew loads of cannabis , within weeks of having sufficient around , I stopped all opiates . That was 4yrs ago . I live in the UK , cannabis is illegal . I have to dodge and bite the bullets , gaining cannabis on the black market , at huge personal expense and inconvenience , whilst , never needing to see my doctor , or costing the NHS £1000's a year for the opiates .
I'm 58 , I have to break the law every day in order to be relaxed and happy enough to maintain a "normal" existence .
It sucks .

I am not sick at all and am celebrating my 30th anniversary of cannabis consumption. I consume every day between one and two grams.
In those 30 years of smoking, I have become fluent in three languages, have achieved two college degrees, and I am running my own little agency for content and translations, giving four people a job.
Cannabis is not the problem.
I ALWAYS watch stuff like this high. One day will come where cannabis will be legal everywhere and will have no government status or restrictions. I'm just happy to see cannabis legal in so many states during my lifetime. I'm 63 and of course for MOST of my life it has been a big No-No, legally.
"You got to do what works for you" is the perfect statement that sums up the use of canabis..... Traditional Chinese medicines have little to no scientific backings as well but the older generations stand by it's benefits......... So in the end it's really down to what you feel helps you personally.
For research you should talk to some old time hippies... I am seventy and have smoked cannabis everyday since I was twenty three...except for the year in prison for growing my own... I have degenerative arthritis of the spine that started when I was twenty from injuries... I can still put in a good days work...just a little slower these days...but my herb is what gets me thru... Just a couple of hits gets me going... I smoke bush weed and only smoke two joints a day in small tokes... Far less than I use to need... It is like my receptors know to block the pain as soon as I toke... I have a hemp shop and make hemp seed oil based healing creams and natural sun protection... I am motivated and creative as well as very active gardener....peace...

I understand that, as a mother I didn't want my son's to use it before their brain was fully developed by age 25. before then the thc can be harmful without CBD, strains weren't well balanced on the black market! I and my son's now use it for medicinal reasons and it's wonderful, good luck, you mother was just being protective..

I'm a 59 yr old white woman who has never used Cannabis. However, I'm fully in favor of its legalization and the stopping of bassackwards states like Alabama. I feel for those people - that poor man who was imprisoned - and push for positive change in our society .
I have not smoked since my teens (25 years ago..) I am also a PTSD veteran. I usually drink wine at night, trying to forget about the day and get some sleep at night. However, sometimes, depending upon my environment/situation, the wine might make me a little too turned up and/or triggered. Another vet recently invited me to spend the week out of town. I was concerned at first, but determined to chill out. He gave me a 100mg edible. I took about a 20mg bite of it, just in case (he was actually trying to get me to eat 2 whole ones; but I had already had a cognac and cola.) I was so relaxed, once that edible kicked in!! I was laughing, eating, and drinking water more than usual. It was bliss. I had no anxiety, but a good night and good sleep 🥰😁
I am legally blind, hard of hearing, high functioning Autistic, and have a seizure disorder.
We went through most of the traditional medication given to control my seizures but I was either allergic to them (stevens-Johnson syndrome) or it effected my behavior in a very negative way. I use it for seizures, headache and anxiety. It’s been quite literally a life saver,

All I can speak to is my personal experience. I struggled with severe insomnia for years. Tried the traditional route with pharmaceuticals. Every Rx my dr prescribed either didn’t help, or worked but I felt like a complete zombie in my day to day life or had serious side effects. I started treatment with cannabis about 1 years ago and it changed my life. I now regularly get at least 6-7 hrs a night, and only rarely do I have difficulty with sleep.
It was my understanding the people who owned the newspapers wanted the paper to come from their tree farms and not from hemp byproduct, so that was the major reason Hemp was outlawed.

The "addiction" it caused for me after 4 months of high-dose cannabis oil was a week or so of mild nervousness and some lack of sleep. But I cured my cancer,
so I can live with that.

The only bad experience I've ever had was spending 5 years in federal prison for a pot offense.

@@charlesbaldo Agree, after years of smoking it'll cause those things. It'll cause the thing it used to help you with. That's exactly how it happened to me. But I didn't smoke to relive a symptom, I smoked because I loved the high, and of course I noticed it stopped some of the anxiety or stress. But after awhile it stopped getting me high and gave stress and anxiety, heart palpitations, feeling like ill have a heart attack. I stopped and I feel great. No drug will keep giving what it did in the beginning.

I do like to get high but benefit from the rest of the plant as well - pain, anxiety, stress, PTSD, ADHD ect.. is either curbed or drastically blunted to the point of no return it seems like. I've been smoking for more than 20 years on a regular basis. It just sounds like the parts of your brain that cannabis directly effects simply can't handle the changes once smoked or eaten. Especially because you were a "week end" smoker, you don't really have a tolerance or deep enough understanding since your sample size of usage was really limited.. We are all different, different people have different reactions. I also believe in your body your choice. As long as you are responsible legally and morally you are doing no harm. You don't drive intoxicated and don't abandon your families needs, then you are being good about it, and the only people who can answer those questions or make that judgment are you, the people around you and God. I get really bad pains in my hands and fingers, idk if it's gout or arthritis but smoking has helped me more than anything. It's also helped me with my anxiety, depression and suicidality and it's kept me off of heroin and helps me socially. I smoke about a half ounce a week or so. I learned after my heroin addiction that moderation is key, I was even able to maintain a stable life with a meth addiction through moderation before I eventually stopped. I got high but never over did it or did the criminal things most meth addicts engage in. I was a normal person that liked feeling like I had all the energy in the universe.
I too am arthritic. Eating cannabis helps me with the pain. Coconut oil extraction works better than butter , crockpot and cheesecloth! Economically , edibles last longer and doseage is easy to determine for your needs.

As a Vietnam Veteran near 78 years old with a PTSD, I smoked it for years and learned a lot from it. I quit it back in the 90s. So far as addiction, people are addicted to food, TV, boose, etc. It's all up to ones self.

That's not how case studies work though. What you got is anecdotal experience. Granted, you're not the only one that benefited greatly, but a study it is not.

Like many, I grew up being told it was evil. If you look at it from a moral standpoint, yes it can lead to some dark stuff. Two things made me change my mind. 1. If we ban cannabis then why is alcohol allowed? You could easily argue alcohol is far far worse for society. 2. As with many things, moderate use can be beneficial. I started using CBD products, saw their major benefits. Took a look at other substances, like caffeine, that when used correctly offer great boons. I learned cannabis doesn't sit in this little "evil zone" while the other substances are somehow "better". Everything is a substance your body uses in some way. Some are beneficial in certain doses, some are poison (alcohol). My state recently started passing a pro-cannabis resolution and for once...I agree with the opposite side of the aisle as it were.
I'm 49 and have smoke the majority of my life. I've never had any side affects. It's improved my life immensely and has allowed me to go inside myself and get to know me. Years ago it helped me make decisions that enriched my life immensely. The fact that it hasn't been legalized on the federal level let's me know the many of those in power are out of touch with reality. Ps, I don't mean suicide. It's helped my illness even tho I've had 16 surgeries in 3 years. I believe it's kept me alive.
I use to think people lied about how it helped anxiety. So I drank myself numb every night and took anxiety pills after my time in the military. I was diagnosed with major anxiety after a few years and I refused to go to the VA because they would just give me opioids and I knew how dangerous they were. I was at my ropes end and figured why not, it is legal where I live and I live a block away from a cannabis shop. I wish I had tried cannabis first. I have not had 1 drop of alcohol since and I do not crave it and my panic attacks are few and easier to manage. But the best thing is I can allow myself to feel feelings without the fear of how they might trigger me. I can let it out as the phrase goes. It has changed my life for the better.

Why doesn't "The Cannabis Question" address hemp for it's full value? Industrial fiber crops will drive economic understanding of the single question of the demonization of cannabis as a consumable. Cannabis only as a consumable also tends to ignore nutritional value of the plant from leaves to seeds. Thousands of viable uses have been denied because cannabis is only considered as a consumable with biological affect. What about economic impacts? What about cannabis as a wholly denied asset to society for all that it is and offers? Let's do an equal show about the vastness of cannabis uses applied broadly to society and economy.
Patent-able medicines are only one field of exploiting the asset of Cannabis. A series of how cannabis can compete in many markets would be greatly educational and forward looking. Hemp for paper compared to current fiber? Cannabis for nutrition compared to peanuts or lettuce? Hemp compared to trees and their industrial uses? Hemp to cotton? Cannabis cellulose? It's time to tell the world about Cannabis and ALL it offers to humanity and where it is the most viable for every market as an asset.

@@mcozy333 Most people don't have the discipline to grow cannabis properly. Home grow is not really that big of a deal in the grand scheme. Most people are lazy and will go to the dispensary. Just like most people don't brew their own beer or make their own wine. You can, but most won't because it's too difficult to do it right for the average person. Just my opinion on home grow.
@@EddieOrlando you can get outdoor wild land race genetics of cannabis and not have to do a thing with it except put it in dirt and maybe have to water it depending on conditions ... not going to be the best stuff or whatever but will be a plant ( weed) that continues to grow ... let it go to seed and die off into the dirt and will self propagate those seed buds for years and years in that one spot .

The most important thing is to get your cannabis product from a utilitarian producer that can and will be made responsible for testing, packaging and education for maximum benefit to the health care system as educated use will decrease overall doctor visits.

Years ago, working as a cancer nurse, we didn't yet have drugs like Zofran to help with nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy. Some of our younger patients smoked weed to help them, and we just turned a blind eye, since it was still very much illegal. Sometimes the aroma would be impossible to ignore and other patients would comment on it, saying things like, "do you know that someone is smoking marijuana ?" One day an elderly Native American patient said to me that she was glad that we were using"the herb." She went on to explain that her people learned about these "medicines" from observing the animals of the forest, who know what to eat to feel better. I've never researched this, but I believe it's a nice story. As far as the patients who used marijuana for symptom control, I can tell you that it didn't only ease their nausea, but it also helped their appetite, calmed them, and helped them sleep.
It's well past the time that we are starting to use it as medicine.

I quit overnight, not because of this video but because I healed the “thing” that contributed to me feeling the need to smoke or be high.
I've been a regular cannabis user for more than half a century. It has done nothing but benefit my life in numerous ways, except for the time I spent in jail 50 years ago. It inspired my career as a professional musician, and completely cured a case of basil cell carcinoma that I had a decade ago. I'm very fortunate to live in Oregon, a state that has had the good foresight to make cannabis legal, both medically and recreationally. Nobody belongs behind bars for using something that is so beneficial.
Alcoholic here! I’ve got 2 years sober… I struggle with calling myself SOBER because I smoke lots of pot. But, I chose the lesser of two evils. I have a long history of pot use that started with my graduation of high school EARLY after failing a grade because of my ADHD symptoms. Once I realized it helped me so much, I continued to smoke. I’ve been arrested numerous times, fired, not hired and just looked down on, but I still smoke it.

Im a carpenter of 26 years. If you removed all the tradespersons that smoke pot, there would be no skilled carpenters to build for the elite! I’ve been working in an exclusively high end market my entire career. My typical clients are doctors, lawyers, high achieving (literally!) professionals and academics. Many of these people smoke pot in privacy hidden away from their professional peers. I find their hidden pipes they stashed in a “safe place” from their kids regularly! It’s hilarious! Once I walked into a laundry room and found a pink crystal pipe freshly packed with one hit taken off it. This person was worth hundreds of millions of dollars I want to mention. The client snuck in after I viewed the work and lent to grab my tools. When I got back, presto! It was gone. Too late! Busted! You’re a stoner, just like us! So let’s all kick back and realize we are all the same already. 🙏
And only 3 electricians. All the Electricians I know smoke out. The owners of huge companies smoke too. My buddy's boss gave me a stash of keif. Hes a baller.

I would love to see these massive farms get broken up and given back to the "illegal" farmers that built the industry. If nothing else they should at least make it a level playing field going forward for the small farmers, if they won't/can't redistribute land, but that won't happen either.

The scale was a big no no. The idea he actually needed a scale to know how much to smoke is a lie. the papers he is using will only hold so much of the product about .5 to .7 with regular sized rolling papers. The scale is a sign of selling the product.
