@@JakeAlexander. I got it on ebay from a liquidation for ~$600, so I'd have to sell it. It also looks like my pc (i7 4th, 16gb ram) is not able to work on such large meshes well. I should probably spend the money I would have from the einstar vega into upgrading my pc. Definitely not coping :(
So whats interesting is I had previously emailed Shining3D about the Einstar about the power brick, because I don't have a garage or access to an outlet near my car and I wanted to scan the side of my car for side skirts/etc. I was thinking about buying an FJ cruiser for a daily which has a 115v power outlet (capable of producing 400w) and had asked if I could plug into that to scan. It actually turns out that the power brick is just a switch adapter, which takes 100-240v down to 12v 5A and 60W. So you could actually buy a cigarette lighter power inverter, plug it into the running car you want to scan, and scan that way. Obviously you'd need to still have a laptop but that way it would technically be "mobile". Pretty interesting work around for those who might not have a garage or wants to do mobile scanning.
Thanks for the comparison! Did you try scanning the rear end with the Vega in HD mode? Then you'd be up close like the Einstar was. Would they be comparable then?
@@LukeTansell-s3b no in HD mode it would be way closer than the einstar and would take forever to scan the rear end that way. HD mode is really for small objects
I have to scan engine, gearbox and a vehicle shell to be able to design chassis and roll cage in CAD. Feels like the Vega will leave me short in one of these areas. The shell is probably the important use case and I'd like 0.5mm accuracy over 1 metre what would you recommend given I have a MacBook Pro with M1 chip and 16G memory
Does the Einstar provide basically the same functionality if you are willing to use the laptop? I already have a powerful Macbook Pro (M3 Pro) and would really prefer the Einstar spend vs the Vega. I get that the Vega is really convenient not having to drag out the laptop but that costs at like a $1000 cost.
