    Hey I’m just seeing this video. I recently removed extra parts from a 89 K 5 for my truck. I did remove the windshield also and it probably took longer than your install. Never know when you might need extra parts. I’m going to purchase the new rubber seal kit. Excellent video.

    Ever stick a thin string in the seam before laying down the glass? Pulling the string out does the same as those tools.

      That doesn't work on this type of seal, the rope method only works on seals that do not use the locking bead.

    Edit: Unfortunately this doesn't help much for my particular case :/ (unless I can replace a "trim style" for a "donut gasket" style seal?) the El Camino line (or at least the '76 models) don't use a conventional gasket+lock bead combo. My windshield (and similar windshields in UA-cam videos) have a layer of sealant under/on the windshield itself and is then just covered up by metal trim
    Original: Many thanks for this :D
    Got a 76 El Camino Classic but the windshield has a small leak somewhere (pretty sure it's the windshield, either way the weather stripping is in heavy need of a swap out) so I have to replace pretty much the entire floor inside where the pans rusted out from soggy carpet sitting on them for who knows how long (former owner just had it sitting in the yard for ages) this should hopefully save me some trouble and cash going to the local guys and having them do it (I prefer to do what I can myself, I'm already going to have to outsource the welding)
    Seems to be the one weak spot on Elkos is the windshield stripping xD my grandfather's 81 Con Quista has had perpetual windshield leak issues

    What is the part number of the tool you used to install the beading? None of the 4 heads on the tool we have work correctly. Only one fits the beading but is almost impossible to use to get into the rubber gasket without damage.. Even used dawn dish soap and water mix to help it but no such luck.

    Is there a reason NOT to use some of the silicon spray when installing the rubber on the pinch weld (so it slides a bit easier)?

      As long as the rubber is still soft you can just change the lock bead.

      @@Aint1S They sent me a number to text them with a pic. Honestly, I figured out what was happening. The original dash was shot and someone added a dash pad over top of the dash. This was creating that gap I was referring too. I am installing a brand new dash! 🤙🏼

      I have to repair the window channels, hardtop mounting surface on the cab from corner rot out, and then I'll do my rockers as well as floor patch panels. A lot of stretching/shrinking, but she'll be worth the effort when I'm pulling wheels with the LS1 that's going in her!

    I've found 2 different seals. Is there a benefit to the locking bead vs the one that doesnr use it?

    • @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
      @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV  3 роки тому

      Nic, the one that doesn't use it actually uses a flap on the rubber to act as a locking bead, IT IS WAY MORE DIFFICULT TO INSTALL. Trust us, use the locking bead style and you will be much happier with the ease of install. If you don't want chrome, the locking bead is also available in black. When the black bead is used, it looks EXACTLY like the non locking bead style rubber.

    Quick question here: My 77 has a little metal clip dead center to cover the ends of the lock bead. You did not show the installation of this. How do you do that the correct way and not damage the rubber or lock bead?

    • @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV

      For our install, the clip just snapped on over the lock bead with a little finesse and finger pressure. Yours should do the same.
