But Askeladd is obviously a fully fledged and unique character, and not just a simple device that serves as a booster rocket for the mc. That would be an injustice to claim. Not that i'm saying that that's what you're saying.
You need to have a god tier written character on the sidelines to make an even better written main character. Thorfinn had so many well written characters to push him as a character to improve past any of them.

Askeladd was absolutely serious about Thors becoming their leader. You can tell by how deeply affected he is by Thors. From thinking about how Thors killed none of his soldiers, to his attitude when telling Ari Thors was worth a hundred of him. How he was the only one who took Thorfinn's screams seriously. It's a sharp contrast to how he behaved compared to the rest of the episode.

Rumored that since Roman era, there are many Nordic / Germanic man that ate that mushroom / any psychedelic stuff before battle, they take their clothes off (maybe because they feel hot) even in winter, charging the enemies while screaming and any non fatal wound won't hinder them, they will keep attacking till they dead.
There are other two theories, one is that it doesnt have to do anything with mushrooms halucinogenic properties, cos going into battle tripping has never been a good idea, but it was like a long-time conditioning and eating a certain mushroom or chewing on your shield was like a trigger. Vinland saga is one of the most goated animes i've ever seen, even the "simple calm" scenes are so well crafted they hit sometimes harder than the big fights, this last season has been crying after crying
It's going to be a loooong time before Thorfinn understands his father's words. This part of Thorfinn's life is so tragic to me, not so much losing his father, but losing his innocence.

But when I saw that look in Thorfin’s eyes when he said he was going to kill them it mirrored Eren so much when he said the same thing about Titans. Vinland saga in a certified masterpiece just like AOT. Can’t wait for you guys to followed Thorfin’s journey and see what he becomes.
Exactly. Eren and Thorfinn initially look like children who just want revenge, but then both their characters and their anime's respective plots evolve into something so much more meaningful and well done. They are my favorite protagonists of any anime ever
Don't know if you know this, but Isayama and Yukimura did a joint interview a while back. Apparently they're friends, and Isayama lists Vinland as a one of his inspirations to get into writing. I'm sure some of the similarities, like Thorfinn/Akeladd mirroring the relationship between Levi/Kenny and "everyone is a slave to something," aren't an accident.
During the beginnings it was serialized in a shonen magazine (it switched to a seinen magazine around the middle of the first season content wise). Also, it is made by the same publishing company as attack on titan (kodansha)
From the moment Thors goes down, Carter's face is stormy as hell. I feel like I just witnessed a serious turning point in Carter's life. I think that was all of us when we first watched this though.

Some of these earlier scenes actually get me crazy emotional having been caught up on everything. The way this show is able to handle it's theme and subject matter so seamlessly is so beautiful.
Everyone is so oblivious except Carter who understood the weight of the storytelling, such a well executed emotionally brutal scene, respect Carter for the empathy

This is a pivotal moment in the series. Thorfinn is changed. Askeladd is introduced, and honestly he’s genuinely a really cool and complex character. And we all like our complex characters 😏There’s no black and white in this narrative. As I’m sure you’ve come to learn from AOT.
I started watching Vinland saga a few months ago and now have caught up to season 2 latest episode and I can confidently say this series is interesting and exciting 😊😊
Underrated, I don't think so. Though a lot of people failed to grasp the essence of the show's true theme in season2, dropping out and then shitting on it, that's to me what's criminally underrated.
@@ReneGade_1911 I definitely think it’s an underrated anime people didn’t really know about season 1 because it was on Amazon prime and they didn’t advertise it at all when it started airing and the farmland saga arc is notoriously slow so most people didn’t end up getting into it even when season 2 started but if we are talking about the manga it’s definitely not underrated it’s known as one of the top 3 seinen manga of all time even though berserk and vagabond have sold far more copies. Highly influential manga but the anime on the other hand hasn’t really gotten the praise it deserves it’s an amazing anime adaptation.
Rewatching these episodes with you guys after catching up in season 2 makes me so emotional... Thanks for watching this show. It is up there with Attack on Titan for me as best/most impactful anime.

I'd say a big factor is also length. Berserk has started it's serialization in 1989 while vinland saga has started in 2005. Besides this, berserk has around 370 long chapters (around 40 pages per chapter) while vinalnd has around 200 short chapters (around 20 pages per chapter), so it's more than three times longer

One of my favorite parts of a rewatch is seeing him mention Artorius. It just adds more depth to his words. They are true.
