They’ll also see some needlessly stretched out episodes that bore you to tears lmao. Season 1 is probably my favourite season of any anime ever, but season 2 has been a bit of a slog at times. 😬
@@adampenbrook5751 they aren't needlessly stretched out. after somewhat neglecting Thorfinns character in s1 to build the world and over all themes they are taking the time to build up his and other characters before the show continues. if you aren't purely in it for the fighting and action, its very engaging.
and they did neglect his character in s1 so much as it was intentionally done to display the horrors of war and what Thorfinns has been through.

i just finished Season 1 of Vinland Saga yesterday and Askeladd might just be one of my favourite characters in fiction, he's so well written
Thorfinn and Canute are just as good in season 2

I hope you continue watching the show specially in season 2. There's a significant change in tone and pace in that season that a lot of shonen type viewers didn't like. But i personally love it, so as many people.

I checked, and there's an anime (tho the art style is more a cartoon) called Blood of Zeus that shows greek mythology quite accurately. I haven't watched it so I don't know if it's good, but it might be worth a peek for Carter!

Greek... yeah Saint Seiya but that's as very loose tie. Blood of Zeus is probably more up your alley. While not anime (made in the east) persay, it's a animated action style. Speaking of which ya'll should check out the Castlevania series. 100% up your alley.

its not just vikings but the story of human kind. no chance in hell that great leaders like Alexander the Great or Julius Caesar did not involve themselves or their soldiers in behavior natural to people.
how to motivate a bunch of men to violence? very difficult and dangerous. modern times it requires a sense of nationalism, salary and specialized training for the ordinary citizen to become a soldier and kill from 150mts away(and sometimes get ptsd in the process). it took a certain kind of person to kill up close and personal, and a life of deprivation and violence, so the question of how to motivate ancient armies, or medieval period men to perform organized violence? loot and non consensual sex were primary motivators, as modern day factors tend to minimize these in western armies.
absolutely loved the scene when askeladd sacked the village in this episode. when one of his men felt utter rapture with just a sideways shot of his face, his mouth wide open

Thinking from the start of human kind as small groups/tribes, the person you want to protect you, was likely a killer or at the least, a person who's ok with ending lives which biologically for humans, come from being a psychopath by the actual definition of it. Loads of people today are psychopaths and don't even know it, have a family and healthy relationships.
You want psychopaths in your armies, who push forward stepping on severed limbs and keep cutting off more limbs, the draw back is you also have to indulge them in their pleasures otherwise they turn on you, because psychopaths are very smart people, they know where they stand in the world and what their worth is.
Then its just classic human animalistic needs, food, water, sex, mixed with traditional and religious requirements to die a warriors death, kinda need conflicts and people wanting vengeance if you want to die in battle.

oh man... you guys are gonna love this show so much the more you watch it. I've already got so much stuff to say about it, but none of it is going to be relevant or make sense until you get to like... end of the first season-ish territory. I'm hugely looking forward to that. and then however good you think the first season is at the end, just remember that I felt that way too, and then the second season somehow still blew my expectations out of the water. you're in for such a good time.
