Mary is well known for her distaste of brushes and sponges and so will use just her hands (with enthusiasm) and I always chuckle watching her apply makeup, simply because she did Princess Diana's makeup and the mental image of Mary touching the late Princess' face in such a way.
She loves her brushes, but she knew which part should and will be better applied with hands and not. Some brushes these days are useless or made for commercial purposes. She only use brushes she knows she will use for any looks and purpose and that's all.
I was always using my hands to apply makeups and I felt i was not doing something normal but finding her doing the same, I remember that it relieved me a lot. It is much easier, faster, and more precise for me to apply with hands.
The look is stunning, although I wouldn't dare wear both smoky eyes and a bright lip to work. It has to be one or the other for me. For an evening out though, this is absolutely fabulous!
Amazing tutorial, Mary hit it out of the park again! One small suggestion GTG: could you show more of Mary doing the makeup, using her hands (which is what she is known for) instead of cutting to the next step so quickly? I love these videos because we have a chance to see Mary use simple techniques to get amazing results. Thanks for bringing Mary to us! xxx
After binge watching Mary's videos, I tried for the first time, applying my cc cream with my hands which I always did with an air cushion. And it was incredible, so much better.
She is an amazing makeup artist. I absolutely adore her work. When the greatest minds in makeup work under you years ago, you know you've done something right.
Dear Mary, I am so very glad I found you channel, I have hooded eyes and all the videos say do a halo, do a cat , matte , matte ughhh, I have been watching many of your videos the past few days , prepping the skin properly, I love the way you use your finger and massage the foundation in , well today I went out of my youtube comfort zone and did my makeup similar to the above, My green eye popped and my skin looks amazing.. Thank you please do more for 2016, we alll know you are so very busy maybe one every month ,, Many Thanks .. Adore you
Stunning just amazing she is indeed a woman of many talents a great tutorial glad to always learn from her and your amazing channel and the quality of chanel products is just perfect! I would also like to ask if perfection lumiere will work on my combination-oily skin? Thanks in advance!! Keep making miraculous videos with Mary too.
i can't wear a lot of concealer under my eyes (even though i need it BAD) because all of them settle in my tiny lines and make me look so much older than 32.
I've been doing my eyeliner all wrong. now I know why the liquid eyeliner I use has too much separation between liner and eyelash! I'll use a pencil first close to the lashes, liquid liner, then blend with shadow, THANK YOU, Mary ! Can you please do a summer 2016 look? Thank you again. btw, I'm 47. What makeup look do you recommend?
I worked in the advertising industry. This look - the heavily powdered face, the OTT concealer, messy blended eyeshadow - would only work very well for photoshoot or publication, where designers digitally touchup the photos, removes the imperfection. Sorry. I'm a fan of Mary but this is disappointing. When the camera went up close on the model's face, all I see is mess. In real life, in a work environment, if clients or colleagues turn up in my office with this look, I would think she is here for a photoshoot or modelling job. Makeup look for office should be like a better version of yourself. Enhancement, sharp and polished. Quite frankly, glowing skin is refreshing, it's like hey this girl looks like she loves her job hence she is glowing!
omg, what? that many eye shadows, that many products and concealer twice early in the morning before going to work at the OFFICE? Please do a redo of the corporate office look for a 9-5 where a lady has to manage a career and her whole family (meaning no option of wasting time). I totally love Mary Greenwell so if she can recreate the look for modern day 2016 that would be great thanks!!
Beautiful makeup! Could you also look at Mary doing makeup on slightly older women? I'm in my early 30's and there are very few videos of this calibre done on models over 25! Xxx
Katie Jones Hi there! Thanks so much for your suggestion, we'll definitely keep it in mind for the next time we record! Glad you enjoyed the video! GTG x
I find it amusing how there are always "experts", often with tacky instagram makeup on their profile pictures and boring hens, who wear lipgloss and mascara, so everything is too much for them. Or even worse, say that wonderful facial massage, increasing the blood flow and blending products in is too rough or not hygienic (clean hands are less hygienic than brushes and sponges? In what world?). First of all, Mary says in the very beginning that this video is to show that you can wear a lot of makeup and look classy/elegant. This look is very much appropriate for many normal jobs, you are just brainwashed into being gray, invisible and apologetic, you convinced yourself everything is always too much. I really doubt most bosses (or coworkers, clients etc) would have a problem with this makeup, if it was on a perfect base, high quality products and immaculate blending and paired with classic hair and clothes. You can always ditch the lip or pair down the eye makeup, especially if you have a face and colouring that doesn't carry it well. The world would be such a marvelous place if more people were like Miss Greenwell - colorful, warm, energetic, creative and brave, instead of the toxic mentality of the commenters.
Inspired by the #beauty trends we've been seeing on the catwalk this #LFW ? Here, renowned #makeup artist Mary Greenwell shows us how to get a fresh 9-5 look that will last all day: bit.ly/1kklx3M
the make up was very beautiful and everything but I don't think it's exactly work appropriate. I believe that people should see your professionalism first, rather than being distracted by the colour of your lipstick/eyeshadow. Using a foundation, a powder, eyeliner, mascara - I'm all in for it, but I am not sure to which workplace in my industry I would be going camouflaged like this
yess it would be perfect for an office social! I am kind of jealous of people who have a more relaxed dress code and can wear bright prints and make up to work :P
totally work appropriate. I have noticed that as more folks embrace office casual, they find the contrast between what was considered normal out of their comfort zone. I have seen some adjust the amount of eye liner and intensity of lip color but this look was very popular in med school.
This look is way too heavy for an office setting. Of course some places are looser than others, but for me, I just use one or two eye shadows at most, mascara, some blush, and a neutral mlbb shade of lipstick. Sometimes I'll throw eyeliner on, but it'll be very demure.
Queen Mary! Yay! The best. I have got to try this look. GTG thank you for these Mary vids, love them! I just wish you would ditch the clunky music and annoying slides with the 'steps' and cheesy puns on them (WHY are they there?) and just focus on showing us the make up.
Why would you do a winged liner like that on someone with hooded eyes? She could've made it look so much better if she actually tried to make the liner suit the model's eye shape
I thought the same thing, but she blends it out with another eyeshadow, it's not a winged liner, not in the defined sense at all, way more sultry and smokey
Please consider doing more tutorials specifically for hooded eyes and maybe have the models with different types of hooded eyes. Us hooded eyed guys and girls can't do what everyone else does on our eyes. It would mean so much.
I am so glad to find a tutorial which actually more applicable than the standard makeup on my workplace and not turning me into a clown with too much powder goo on the face.
just for your future reference: the eye "socket" on her lid is the crease and the line "inside the eye" is the water line. But i'm by no means a beauty expert
Mary is well known for her distaste of brushes and sponges and so will use just her hands (with enthusiasm) and I always chuckle watching her apply makeup, simply because she did Princess Diana's makeup and the mental image of Mary touching the late Princess' face in such a way.
AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!!
jewels931 it's the best mental image ever, I cracked up
jewels931 roflao

those colors look different shade of gun-metal gray on camera but i see absolutely no brown in them
Fantastic tip regarding the brown pencil liner before the liquid liner!! I will be doing that from now on.
Mary is life.
Mary makes it look so easy! I love the bold lips.
The model is stunning and the MU dreamy
Stunning, Mary in brilliant. I am a a nurse and wear full face daily and get nothing but compliments.
She is insane. That would me my makeup for partying.
These are really sneaky ads for Chanel.

i can't wear a lot of concealer under my eyes (even though i need it BAD) because all of them settle in my tiny lines and make me look so much older than 32.
Use a hydrating eye cream or gel and a peach or orange color corrector before applying concealer.
This is such an awesome tutorial. Love it! Can't wait do wear this to work tomorrow to my high- powered job ;)

Absolutely stunning. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent.
Love Mary so much!!! Beautiful makeup!
I seriously want to throw on some clothes and go fetch a few of these products right now Mary! Love the eyes and colorful mouth. Stunnnnning!
Wow. Master at work. Amazing lady.
absolutely fabulous

Mary looks so classy with glasses :)

Love this woman! #MoreMary
Love me some Mary!
Superb Mary!
Rewatching in 2019 👍🏾
The model looks like she has perfect skin. Why all the face stuff?
Work appropriate makeup for someone who works in the fashion industry or something along the line
Great look for a date night...
Love Mary's work! Please don't use that irritating background music again!
Love the makeup! However, did I miss something? What about eyelid primer? Or did she put foundation over the lids?
Its nice but it's too much for work
Gorgeous.
Loved her look without the lipstick
anyone knows what the background music is? I love it!
what is the brush she using
This woman is a true makeup savant, I swear! The way she understands colour and a woman's face is beyond magic, simply marvellous!

+M ASMR Mary Greenwell is British. In the UK and Commonwealth, "matte" is usually spelled "matt".
im offended by the elevation of the eyeliner
Beautiful work Mary, although I would wear this out to a party. Would love to see Mary apply makeup to a 30+ model. .? Susanna. 😊

***** Totally agree. That was way too dark. Maybe for a work-related evening party, but not for the daytime.
yess it would be perfect for an office social! I am kind of jealous of people who have a more relaxed dress code and can wear bright prints and make up to work :P
I'm a nurse and would quite cheerfully wear this to work, but without the bright lip.
totally work appropriate. I have noticed that as more folks embrace office casual, they find the contrast between what was considered normal out of their comfort zone. I have seen some adjust the amount of eye liner and intensity of lip color but this look was very popular in med school.
I personally love bright lipstick and very minimal eye make up. I don't like eyeshadow.
I like the music! Does anyone now this track? Shazam couldn't find it :(
This look is way too heavy for an office setting. Of course some places are looser than others, but for me, I just use one or two eye shadows at most, mascara, some blush, and a neutral mlbb shade of lipstick. Sometimes I'll throw eyeliner on, but it'll be very demure.
Superb
I wrot love to se a werry suttel cold rosy look...
I am interested. How would this work for an experienced Esthetician and Makeup Artist being a consultant? This is a service product.
Queen Mary! Yay!

Ready to be crowned as executive manager ;)
just for your future reference: the eye "socket" on her lid is the crease and the line "inside the eye" is the water line. But i'm by no means a beauty expert
Is it just me or is she really slapping the model as she puts makeup on her ? :D
Annie Phan just imagine she did exactly the same thing to Princess Diana before lol
Feel like natural lip colour would work better
Good grief you are talented
what kind of work would you show up looking like that?
danax2007 when you look good you feel good. I perform better at work when I am looking good. it gives a lot of confidence.
Do you always use Chanel makeup? Or do you experiment with others.
If this is office, what is party?
Does Mary only do makeup on white skin??
WAY too much make up for work.
Is it just me or does this make her lids look super heavy?
