    The map boundary thing is exactly what I thought from the start, which fits with the general Bethesda RPG experience. The same will go for space. I think the only folks that will be disappointed, are those that were expecting it to be a space sim.

That they knew and was talking about the barriers in comment sections and how Todd explained it in an interview how the tiles worked. How many of you would, say, in No Man's Sky, Star Citizen, or Elite Dangerous actually travel more than 10min walk in real time in any direction from your ship?

    • @kubel83

      In 10 min I can take a shit. Take a shower. Drink my coffee and enjoy a cigarette.
      Also 10-15 min is what it takes to travel from one end of Skyrim map to the other end.
      So I’m definitely not disappointed with the way they went
      Heck in No man’s sky I would only run for 3 min before I got bored and called my ship to land somewhere else😅

    "We all took full explorable to mean without running into boundaries"
    That's a 'speak for yourself' moment mate. It's obvious. Why are there no ground vehicles? Why is there no atmospheric flight? Simple. You'd very quickly run into the boundary and that would be frustrating. Instead, you load into an area map of a certain radius and are free to explore within that map. If you want to explore another area, you go to your ship and choose a different map zone and do it all again. This is Starfield...not Star Citizen. There's a reason why CIG is taking a longer time to develop their game than Bethesda. Choose your poison.

  • @law-11
    @law-11 Рік тому +2

    I believe there will also be a limit of how many tiles a planet/moon can have. You will have to overwrite an old one to create another. Wonder how that limit will be when comparing your total for a system or the universe as a whole. Good(???) thing with that will be unlimited resources as you can just dupe more areas after you loot another. The more I hear about the game the less rush I am in to play it, especially with a paid dlc before it even released. I'll probably jump on this game when a "Gold" edition drops with all their planned DLCs included without paying a premium for them.

    No boundaries does not matter, but what does matter is, dismemberment high frame rates and bullets that actually effect the body…. That’s what’s important, not collecting sandwiches or joining of action, or a religion, or even making your own meals. And shipbuilding shouldn’t even exist. If there’s no atmospheric flight I’d rather just pick from a bunch of preset ships. … cut scenes just ain’t cutting it for custom shipbuilding.
    UnFortunately, mods will not be able to add dismemberment or atmospheric flight …. The engine doesn’t support any of that. And if they did do it, it would create a crazy amount of bugs. You will probably have bigger blood splatters that’s about it.

  • @abruhkadab

    This game keeps disappointing especially for the Xbox Consol. I’m not talking about PC. 30 frames per second boundaries and it still looks boring to play. it’s old technology with new lighting, but if you watch the shooting and killing in the game, it looks like fall out. Games are out now where the shooting is so realistic unfortunately star field will have no dismemberment no atmospheric flight. The important mechanics that are in new generation games are not in this game. All you’re gonna get is new lighting and a bigger universe same game play PC will definitely outrun the Xbox for this game. Xbox is just a week machine.

      I mean, without ground vehicles (or need of due to their 'zone' design), we lose a certain element of exploration. Without seamless planetary exploration, the game starts to be just SWTOR 2.0 or STO. You remember? Loading screen down to a zone with boundaries on a planet to do some mission and then you load back out? Well it's better presented in Starfield, but pretty much the same kind of thing.

    I don't think the tiles will be necessarily random inside, I think some amount of the tile could be procedure but by having a big pool of potential tiles that have variation from the procedural generation but generally are preset to mesh a certain way they can have the best of both worlds. I doubt the tiles will just randomly be different when you load the next tile that seems pretty trivial to make it function where you're going to see what you get in the next tile, I'm pretty sure we'd have heard leakers talking about that kinda jank if it was totally random.
    We also have heard talk about loading screens being integrated as much as possible, I'm wondering if the selecting the next tile to load into will end up having a smooth transition or cutscene or if its gonna be an actual load screen.

    • @qlebevillon
      @qlebevillon Рік тому

      Lots of leaks confirm the fact that tiles are not connected, if you land, take off, remove your landing spot and then land again at the same exact place, it's a totally different map that will be generated. Basicaly you generate an instance with planet presets and the presets of the tile you choose to land on. Tiles are independent not aware of their adjacents tiles.

    • @havoc8600
      @havoc8600 Рік тому

      Nobody ran the entire planets length in nms, you summoned your ship and flew. NMS did a lot of things right, but let’s not get out of pocket here

    • @KevinPlayingGames
      @KevinPlayingGames Рік тому

      NMS also showed you that generating an entire planet like that requires massive pop-in at fairly close range regardless of how high you pump your graphics settings. I really enjoy NMS, and in fact I'm playing it while watching this video on my second monitor, but graphically it's nowhere near Starfield. I'll take the planets with boundaries and an amazing looking game with Bethesda-level story, quest and customization over a galaxy full of complete-sphere explorable planets. That's not really the point of Starfield.
      I can understand some people being disappointed, but this, for me, doesn't change anything either way. I hope that those who are upset they can't circumnavigate all of 1000 planets will give the game a chance, but I've already seen posts saying that it's a dealbreaker for them, and one person saying they were going to get a refund.
      Personally, I think that's ridiculous, but to each their own. To them, I say, buh-bye, we'll enjoy the game without you.

      @@69crazyb well of course you’re not going to walk in a single direction for more than 5 minutes, there’s not going to be anything there. How many times have you walked into the boundary in an elder scrolls or a fallout game? Probably not often or even at all because they don’t put fun things by the boundaries, smart developers want you to stay away from boundaries, it’s simple level design. Claiming this “doesn’t effect” you because you “wouldn’t” have walked in a straight line for 10 minutes is pure cope. If there was interesting things along the way of course you would’ve. It effects everyone including you. The implications are that we’re going to have incredibly small little maps with not much going on in any of them and if you see something interesting in the distance you have no idea if you can go there or not. Most likely the devs made sure it’s a wasteland anywhere more than a 30 second walk away from your ship. better not try to explore, might run into a wall, make sure you can always see your ship, that’s where the tailored fun is.
