Why the need to convert singing into such a competitive pursuit? David Phelps, obviously strains maximally to reach the notes that he does, which can get a bit boring to listen to; whereas Pavarotti, Bocelli, Domingo, et al., operatic singers appear to do so effortlessly. Singing, and music in general, is an art form, and subjective in many respects. Converting it to a pissing contest seems adolescent.

Lol David Phelps has one of the best techniques in contemporary music, he was classically trained and can sing with squillo and project over and orchestra no problem. Almost his entire range is free.

David even surpassed some classical singers, and considerably, his techniques for his styles help him getting his high notes effortlessly comparably to the others in the same genres of him. Although some opera singers can do high notes less efforts than David Phelps in an original opera song, frankly, most of them either is unable to sing other music’s genres or sing high notes as good as David has done in various music’s genres including classical music. He is talent, and saying he sing with strains is the false and stupid claim.

Strain of yours are like David hitting a lot of sharp resonances of high notes in his 40’s. I know some singers sing “obviously strains” and they almost lose their voice before their 30’s or 40’s (Google is free. Please search for yourself). Even in his 50’s, David can hit effortlessly the c5 in Gaither reunion 2021. Only ages hold him back to lead the whole songs, honestly.

I only heard David strain any notes in the last 10 years… the rest of his career he was in excellent voice.

@@KajiVocals They’re certainly fine gospel singers, who put a lot of emotion and effort into their performances, but lack the effortless, capacious vocals that Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, Luciano Pavarotti (and Enrico Caruso, Bjorling, others) displayed throughout their careers.
