The first time I went to a Catholic church, I noticed they put babies and their parents in a soundproof room in the back. Why? In case the babies cried.
Then the first time I went to a Baptist church I found myself at a party! Singing, dancing, babies could cry, whatever! It was wonderful!
I was raised in a Lutheran church. It was all walks of life, babies could cry. I called it "The you're okay, I'm okay, we're in this together church".
But, the best party was at the Baptist church, so I took my two small children. They had never seen anything like this either. They loved it too! I sent them to Bible school there after that.
They didn't care if we were of any religion, they were loving and sweet and hilarious!

Oh, wow. We had a Catholic priest here who said he could talk over any baby or child. No exclusion there. The best church I ever went to was a Baptist church. Lots of reverence for God. Also, if someone performed music badly, they would "forget" to ask them to perform again.

🙄 Catholic churches don't put babies in boxes. Some of them have cry rooms that parents are welcome to use if they feel the need, but many Catholic churches have done away with those completely or use them as sensory rooms. Our motto is "if the church isn't crying, it's dying." We want those young families at Mass!

After I married my husband, we visited his home town church. That week the worship leader was absent and since I was a worship leader, I was asked if I could lead the worship. This was back in the 80’s. Little did I know there was a precious little lady who sat on the front row and loved to sing. She had a very strong accent and an operatic voice. She loved to sing Vibrato (her voice vibrated between notes for those who are unfamiliar with the Latin word). The most memorable part of her singing was that she sang loud with gusto and was off key!
I started leading the first song and she entered in with such enthusiasm that I nearly fell off my high heeled shoes! It kind of threw me for a loop and I had to catch up with the music. 😂. I loved that lady and it is one of my fondest memories. ❤

@@kathleenbeach4839 I am a trained singer. I started out with a tremolo, and my teacher had me work on it for months to get a cleaner tone. Tremolos are wicked hard to get under control, and the wavering between pitches was beyond annoying when my voice teacher made me aware of it. I still have to watch out for bad habits in singing, so believe me, I understand.

“But stay ye on the beat.” 🤣 I go to a lively church and you’re allowed to do pretty much whatever you want to praise the Lord, as long as it is in an appropriate manner and clearly not just pure flesh. But drawing attention to yourself and ignoring authority is over the line. 😳
The best story I’ve witnessed was my brother who jumped up to raise his hands and he sat back down so hard that he broke the old wooden pew. 😶 The pastor of that church we were visiting cautions him at the beginning of every service when we go back, to not break any more pews.

Not a runaway, exactly, she went to live with family in "civilization" ( her word not mine) . He dad was weird but nice but her mom was a religious fanatic.
I loved my friend then and until she died a few years ago, so I did visit her home frequently.

@@adamtomecko6817 they are out there, Christian comedians. This one is really good. Although he is nearing retirement, you might also check out Jeff Allen. And, although he wasn't solely a Christian comedian, but is a devout Christian, check out Bill Engvall. Also in retirement now, he is still active on youtube. His bit about almost got kicked out of church is funny. A lot of Christian comedians have a two pronged approach to comedy. The humor doesn't really change. But, the delivery kind of varies depending on whether their audience is church-based or secular-based and their agents make this clear to the comic when they book the gig...usually. Jeff Allen has an amusing sketch when his agent/manager failed to tell him which gig was which. 🤣 But, the bottom line is there are clean comedians out there and some are Christians. Even the ones who primarily perform in churches realize how far to take the comedy and what line, even in churches, not to cross. They are truly gifted and we are blessed because, even in church, it can be ok to laugh sometimes. 🤭 😇

As a 10 year old child who was raised in the Catholic church where the only movement was getting up and down on the kneeling benches and no one sang but the choir. My aunt took me to her childhood church way back in the hills of Kentucky. There were no pews, just wooden benches with no backs. In that day it was what was called a "holy roller" church. The lady in front of us got in the spirit and started rolling on the floor and under the bench. I jumped up and ran out of the church screaming. My aunt had to chase me down in the parking lot. I wouldn't go near a protestant church for years because I thought that they were all like that. Today I am a Methodist minister. No rolling in my church. lol

She came up to me and asked how I was and before she had the chance, as a known cheek pincher, I pulled out my snake and said see what I caught! Well..... She passed out cold and I heard my Dad utter the dreaded words of "meet me in the bedroom when we get home". So safe to say, neither one of us came out of that one unscathed 😂😂

When I was a child, I was told that the hymns were in such a high key because it made them easier for the piano player to play. Once I had music lessons, I realized that wasn't true. That many sharps or flats cannot possibly be the easiest arrangement for the pianist. Even if it was, there's only one pianist-- surely we're not just throwing all of the other congregants under the bus because some piano player prefers using only the black keys.

She came back with, “but that’s how I worship”. I said, “well, as the worship leader, I’m asking you to not play the tambourine, but you do what you want”. 1st song, 2 beats in, and tambourine lady is slapping away, off beat and staring me down. I got up on my microphone, looked her right in the eyes and said, loudly, “NO”. Clean and simple. I never saw her again. Sorry if it sounds harsh, but she was single-handedly destroying the services. We’re responsible for the worship experience of hundreds and one selfish person can’t win in that situation. Church is tough, just try it sometime.

In our local (small) church, during the service there would be a hymn or two put to music. One of the members was an old(er) lady, let's call her Martha, who had the lung power of a cooper's hawk and had no idea of how far off key she was. Ev-er. She was almost not singing the same hymn as the rest of the people...but what could you say? Marha, don't sing, you're deafening the preacher. Martha, could you just zip it?

@donaldlesicka8115 if you don't worship with the music l but only have empty choruses with no meaning repeat8ng with drums and catchy beats I'd suggest you are there for the wrong reason. The hymns beauty are the words praising God with a message not obscured by loud beats and s reaching vocals. So sorry your comprehension of the word beautiful is limited to a superficial level, I'll pray for you.

Years ago, there were people in my church that would play tambourines and other hand percussion. Drove the worship leader crazy. We made them stay in the back.
