  • The boxing guard is designed to protect the head and body, so make sure you don't lose it's integrity when the punches start flying! Here is a tutorial showing how to properly block punches to the body in boxing, or MMA -- using your elbows and forearms. And of course, effective counters to the body shots!

    This video couldn’t of come at a better time thanks Shane. I have just started doing Muay Thai thanks to your vids and in my first sparring session I found myself dropping my hands every body jab or body hook I was taking and I got tagged on the nose. This will help greatly for my next sparring session. Thanks and keep up the good content :D

    How can I fight someone who is super quick and always manages to sweep me. I don’t even know how he can sweep me, he just does it out of nowhere embarrassing me

    • @The_Default_User
      @The_Default_User 6 років тому +64

      i would say all you need is more training :D nothing embarrasing about loosing in training just think about how many motherfuckers are walking aruund that could fuck us up EASY so there will all ways be a guy that will sweep you all the time but be happy you found that guys all ready you learn the best from the best ^^

    • @CB_Music
      @CB_Music 6 років тому +6

      The Jeffrey 27 so if he sweeps you be ready for it look ar his torso so you periferral vision is always on hes limbs if its mma fight from your back, if its muay thai clinch dont be scared to get physical (no homo)

    • @fightfacts5089
      @fightfacts5089 6 років тому +3

      The Jeffrey 27 THEN,dont stay on your toes and have good balance and try to be strong on legs,throw hard low kicks so he can not move his fucking legs until next year,I had the same problem in gym like you and the guy quit because I just stood in my place hard,not move my feet too much and surprise him with fast,explosive and powerful low kicks than are gonna break his fucking leg in half.PS.Dont let you coach see you breaking his legs in half.

    • @Docinaplane
      @Docinaplane 6 років тому +22

      The first thing you need to do is learn how he is sweeping you. Video a sparring session or ask him, as a fellow student, how he does it. Maybe he will teach you, and you will get better. if you establish a good relationship with him you may learn more stuff from him.

    How can I fight someone a lot bigger and stronger than? I’m 6’1” 170and my opponent is 6’5” 220 and whenever I step in he punches me, if I punch he just leans back and takes the body shot, all I can do is low kicks but those don’t bother him and it’s really pissing me off when I work with him?

      Side kicks and front kicks bro, if he leans back he let his belly exposed, a good kick to the body hurts it doesn't matter how strong your opponent is, sorry for my bad English lol

      Stay out of his danger zone and wait for him to throw a strike and then counter. If he comes in and throws his jab, slip and step forward and hit him with a hook or uppercut

    • @gingercore69
      @gingercore69 6 років тому +2

      well, for the boxing part, you could try reading the book that jack dempsey wrote... just watch his fight with willard(im probably writting that name wrong), there were like 60pounds of difference, and willard was a giant! dempsey knocked him out so hard, people acused him of loading his gloves with rocks or something, for kicking, you can trip him... when he leans back try to trip his leg away and go in with a body blow... he will probably fall, and if you make him fall enough times, its over
      interesting that there is such a weight and size difference tho... i think you shouldnt be in the same weight division...

    great video! i got so tired of protecting the bofy and head at the same time that i started fighting leaning foward, so the easiest target for them is the head, and i can use head movement for that... i got hit less since i started doing that, but its harder to keep up the speed and stamina fore more than a few rounds...

    I did boxing training for a couple months but stopped for a while cause of work. I have a friend who is 6'1'' and 190 lbs and I am 5'8" and 140. Any way we sparred and he didn't have any training so his only defense was reach. I was a bit rusty so he kept getting body shots on my lead side.

    I really looked to protect my head in yesterday’s sparring session (kickboxing) and almost got knocked down with a straight to the body...I have my first tournament in 3 weeks and that’s really my last BIG flaw I have to work on until that, I hope that video helped and I‘m gonna try to protect both zones equally next time, cause now I really know how „easy“ it is to hurt someone to the body, my opponent threw 60% punch but just catched me while I was breathing out so it kind of went straight through...horrible pain.

    one thing i´m wondering about. i have done a bit of muay thai, and there we want the guard to be pretty high, like thumbs to eyebrow height. my teachers said they do that to protect for elbows to the face/eyebrows to make a cut or knock someone out, y'all probably already know this. but i´m just wondering why is that not applied here?

    Im very new to boxing and still getting used to blocking body shots with the elbow. The biggest problem for me is that I end up hurting myself because my elbows dig into my sides. No matter what I do...the punch always transfers this force that causes my elbow to jab my own body. Trying to fix that...

    What if you’re throwing a jab and your opponent then goes for the body shot from the side you threw your jab? You won’t be able to block that side since your arm would already be jabbing.
