I just picked one up exactly like that one, probably a 94 or 95. I refurbed it and it looks like a floor model now. I would have kept that old Genesis.

Exactly, never throw those old ones away. They are much better made than the new Chinese ones.

Yup! Just restored mine too. Mines a 96' 900 model. It is far superior to a new grill

I've got a 1996 Weber 900 almost identical to your Dads. Just rebuilt it even with a new cookbox but far better than buying a new one! They are awesome grills!

Just sold my 1999 Genesis 1000 grill that looks like this one. Mine was in very good shape. Sold it for $100 to a collector who will love it and use it. Very good LP gas grill and worth the investment. I've moved on to a Pit Boss Pro Series 1100 pellet grill and love it.

Bought mine in 2001, still going strong.

Just bought the grill. It combusted because I stuck my sticky balls onto the grill. My entire backyard is destroyed. Thanks Big Jim.

I have a 1980 weber kettle I bought brand new in box recently works flawlessly, have a 1996 weber performer deluxe and a 1998 weber Smokey joe. All work great the new ones are super cheap.

I bought one exactly like that in 1993, same color. Finally trashed it in 2009 though it was still working perfectly...

Shoulda kept the old one. It's a better grill. For starters, the horizontal burners work like a charm for rotisserie. Can't even do that with the vertical ones. But you're lucky your kids love you so much, even if they made a mistake! ;)

You're absolutely right! That red one will outlast that new weber. I've always been a charcoal guy and use my performer kettle for everything! This week I picked up an old propane genesis similar to this red one only it's black. I bought new grates, and flavor bars and I'm going to test it out this weekend. I'm still gonna stick with my kettle for long cooks but to grill up a few quick burgers or steaks, this is gonna be much quicker. Nothing like a weber.

The funny thing is is that the red one will outlast the new one because the new one are not built in the USA anymore and the bottoms all rust away

    • @GeeDeeBird
      @GeeDeeBird 2 місяці тому

@@ivancmiel5684 It's not about where it's built, it's about how it's built and the materials used. The older ones had thicker, baked on enamel. The newer ones use a faster, cheaper process that results in a thinner, less durable coating. They also changed the burner orientation to make assembly faster, reducing cost, but making a less versatile grill. That's "progress" for you!

It's 2020 and my 2001 Weber Genesis Silver B is still going strong. Replaced the burners and igniter in 2016.

Cool video...I still roc a Weber charcoal red in color grill. Purchased mid 80's!
Today I purchased the 2017 Weber Genesis II E-210 LP grill. Needed a convenient and faster way to grill but still keeping ole' red!
Hope you are enjoying your new grill!

Now that Mr. Heisel has three years using his new grill, it would be nice to give a followup comparing the two grills.

My 2009 Genesis 320 had the cart rot away on it. I replaced it this summer with a Genesis II S-335. I hope the cart lasts on it. This time I've decided to keep it covered. Fingers crossed.

My Weber Q 120 is over 4 years old and still working like a new one. My neighbor threw out his old Weber Genesis and I grabbed it. Should cost me about $200 to refurbish and I'm ready to go.

Exactly, those babies were built to last. The new ones won't. Chinese crap now.

I hope his kids bought him that cause they plan on restoring his old weber. I have the red 1994 that was given to me and it's the best grill hands down that I ever owned.

There's a saying that goes, "Buy quality and only cry once." Our 1998 Genesis 1000 is still going strong.

I have no idea how this all worked out, but I have a feeling he will find out, as I did, that the Spirit doesn't cook nearly as well as the older deep box 13 bar Webers. The Spirit requires more than frequent cleaning or it will catch fire below the bars and burners.

Have had mine since 2002. Replacing parts, had one fire but everything is ok.

You have to clean the pull out drawer regularly or it will ignite and spoil your dinner😊

I'd keep the red one and the money😊. Show those grandkids.

rebuild the cabinet on the old one, it's a better grill. if you can find a 15 to 20 year old weber gas grill snag it.

Your old grill is probably better! My inlaws have the same grill boughtnin 1996. They just replaced the bars and grate...cooks great.. the spirit line is ok but made in china...don't throw out your old one!! The spirit won't last as long. The Genesis and Summit lines are still made in USA..I have a 2013 S670..Weber sent me new burners and grate for free...it grills like new...Weber is by far the best company around!
