    You'll eventually tire of the labor of charcoal for every single grill job, and will likely settle into using both. Use charcoal for steaks, burgers, meat. Use that beautiful weber for veggies, quick stuff, or a lazy day when you can't be bothered to deal with all of the work.

    I love it. I restored a green in 2018 and love it. But it barely used. It is a showpiece. Between the kettle collection, chargriller Legacy, or my offset stick burner i do not use gas much. BUt I love the Genesis look. And if we need a quick cook, it delivers great results

    I have done a few restorations, and have a few more waiting. Thanks for the tip on the emblem! Things I've done is the cart can be painted with regular black paint high heat for the firebox and lid, I took the end caps off the lid and painted them disassembled. They last basically forever except here in the north I've seen the frames rust if left outside for years uncovered.

    There's no hard and fast law that you cannot cook with gas, charcoal, wood pellets, or natural wood! I can cook with all of them and for different reasons and inherently one has an advantage or disadvantage over the other one from any angle you look at it. I bought a partially restored Weber Genesis 1000 and considered converting it to a smoker but in the end, it was just too nice of an edition with the quick and efficient method of gas cooking- so I opted to keep it as is and never looked back! Your grill looks amazing. Mine doesn't even compare, but I still admire it each time I uncover it. The retro look never goes out of style and there's a good aftermarket them just because of the amazing product support from Weber! Cheers!

    Keep it. I have a 18” WSM, 22” Kettle, SJ, a Kamado Joe, and Camp Chef Pellet Grill. And I still use my Weber Genesis NG grill. Perfect for quick meals on a weeknight. Throw some wood over the burners if you want some smoke. And nice work!

    Your restoration looks great! Having recently received my Dad’s 1989 Genesis which still works great after a full cleaning and gas tube replacement! But I was wondering if you did anything to the inside of the lid on the cast aluminum sides? On mine, the steel upper part still has a nice porcelain (?) covering, but on the sides (after my pressure wash) looks like bare flat silver aluminum color. Did you do anything to that or leave it bare? I would appreciate any advice! Thank you in advance!

    • @GrillSergeant
      @GrillSergeant  2 роки тому

      I would leave anything on the inside of the grill alone. That should naturally season itself.

      @@GrillSergeant Thank you for your quick reply! Up until now I had given up on gas grills due to uneven heating and supposedly stainless steel that rust out easily (none were Weber). But after using my Dad’s 30+ year old gas grill a few times now and finding it maintains even temperatures over the entire surface with all 3 burners on. I’m extremely impressed and amazed it only needs minor exterior refreshing after so long! It’s definitely a keeper!!! 😀

    Love that Weber! What do you recommend for the type of wood for the slats? I have an older Weber Genesis with the wood slats on each side, with flip-up table and across the bottom.

    • @GrillSergeant
      @GrillSergeant  4 роки тому +1

      Mike Lovett If I were to do it again I would have bought a premium hardwood that all I had to do was seal it. It took forever to stain and seal all that wood. You could go with cedar or redwood....

    Are you really going to fire up the coals even if you want to do a simple chicken breast. Lots of people have the two for that reason. When its worth it fire up the coals when its quick fire up the gas.

    • @JoeAnshien
      @JoeAnshien 3 роки тому

      The inside of the cover is NOT pealing. It is carbon build up. Do not paint the inside of your grill. Use some simple green, scraper, and heavy duty steel wool coil pad.

    Hi, what specific wood did you purchase (size and type) and where did you get it from? Also where do they sell pre-stained wood?

    • @GrillSergeant
      @GrillSergeant  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Albert! Thank for checking out the video! For the wood I just went to Home Depot and got common wood boards (Pine) and cut everything to spec. I don't think they sell pre-stained wood because if you were to cut it the stain does not go all the way through the wood. If I were to do it again, I would pay a little more and get a nice wood (Mahogany, Red Oak, Walnut) and then you don't have to stain anything (only seal protect it)

    • @creamheadissilly
      @creamheadissilly 4 роки тому +1

      @@GrillSergeant Great video I got a bunch of ideas from it! Watched a few on the subject that involved grills of this type of model and yours was the best.
      I just bought some oak to replace my old boards. Was thinking about cedar but dunno where i could find it. Home Depot actually has these .75 inch wide oak boards that I think will work perfectly. Little wider than stock, and a little taller but I don't think either will present a pressing issue.
      Only issue I have is I lost one of the brackets the wood screws into so hopefully it turns up because you can't just go out and buy those brackets from what I have seen. Would need a doner grill or manufacture something as a substitute.
