    Hey guys!!! PINNED COMMENT ALERT! I see a lot of you have asked where are the guppies. Where,where,where??? :) I know this video is long but I mentioned at the end of the video when the guppies will be added to the pond. I like to make sure the pond is cycled and safe for the animals, I do it that way because I think it's right, maybe you have some other method I don't know. I don’t want to add the fish right after setting up the pond and kill it. Please be patient, I am patient. But it's worse for me because I have to watch an empty pond every day :) Guppies will be in the pond soon so stay tune... Thanks for watching and see you next time!!!

      2:46 judging from the bright colour, all of them look like male guppies. You should put female guppies too.

      @garlicmuncher 3 роки тому +9

      @@gingerteddy618 Its his wish. Breeding guppies reduces the life span of the males. They also reproduce uncontrollably and could overload his pond if he doesn't have a way to reduce their numbers

      Love the video, very creative! Most fishy type people know you have to wait to put the fish in unless you add active bacteria. I think they maybe wanted the whole process from start to finish in one video instead of waiting on an updated video. I've seen some youtubers do that. You get to see the plants grown in too but it just takes a month or so to release it. Either way, I enjoyed the beginning! I'm a little late so will pop over to your page and see the guppies after they've been added and if the plants grew in well😊

    You're the first person I've seen use cheap lights and improving them by removing the diffuser. I've done this as well, though our lights have more rigid diffusers so I've had to use knives and saws; Still, it works. I have multiple aquariums/plant grow chambers, and all are lit by basic cheap leds.

      Thats great! Can you help me out with it, what should the LED specifications be to work well for planted tanks?

    • @WhatIsMisophonia
      @WhatIsMisophonia 3 роки тому +4

      @@myst9072 Not sure I can be too helpful in terms of specifications... I mostly play it by ear :P You can use relatively weak leds if you have them close to the plants, as par rating increases drastically the smaller the distance between the light source and the plant. The opposite is true too, as the further your lights get from the plants, the more that useful light intensity drastically decreases. I use mostly the cheap 60watt equivalent house led lights (8.5watt, 760Lumins), and when they are less than a foot away from the plant leaves (provided you've removed the big round opaque covering), I'd estimate it's medium to high light conditions (I have aquariums and potted plants with lights at all different heights). I have a 7 gallon fish tank with 6 lights about 3 feet above it. Most of the surface is covered by driftwood and plants, yet the crypts rooted into the substrate get enough light to survive. The peace lily rooted on top of the driftwood protruding from the top of the tank gets enough light to bloom and runs its roots down through the water column and all throughout the gravel bottom. Most of those lights are warm white, around 2700kelvins, but 2 of the 6 are cool white, 5000k. I have a 20 gallon riparium illuminated by only 2 lights also at 3 feet up, though they're 150w equivalent warm whites. I don't have the actual rating and power on those, but it creates a low to medium light condition at that height. The lights all have cone-shaped reflectors on them to divert most of the light downward and I made them from aluminum cans. Also, I completely disassemble the lights so that only the leds, heatsinks, and hot and neutral wires are left intact. I connect all the hot and neutral wires up to a larger 2 wire cord, which is plugged into a timer, which is plugged into a wall outlet. You don't have to completely disassemble them though, but I find it saves me money having to buy those screw in light fixtures, plus they take up space.

    Incidentally, while I really admire your efforts here and find them inspiring, in my experience wood that is constantly wet above the waterline like this well eventually develop mold growth. It can be treated with a dab of hydrogen peroxide but will eventually come back. Depending on your water, the wood can also tend to show hard water marks/calcium lines. (Certainly, guppies need some minerals in their water to thrive.) For these reasons, I find stone/rock is better for a feature above the waterline because it can be more easily brushed clean with a wire brush. In any event, you'll probably be fine because you seem very talented but I'd welcome an update in the months ahead on any mold issues or hard water marks on the driftwood. Thank you for sharing your art.

      But everything you mentioned to be done with rock as to why it is better is the same with the wood. Although rock wont break down same as wood. It would still take a while before there would be any negative effects of using wood and by then is when people usually tend to change their set ups anyway. The wood you can be cleaned with brushes to get the deposits off.

      Extract from an article on wood's mold resistence:
      Generally, products made from a native wood have better resistance to bacteria than products made from other natural or synthetic materials. Milling et al. (2005) tested the bacterial activity of E. coli and E. faecium on pine and oak woods, which had better hygienic performance than plastics. This result was likely due to the hygroscopic properties of wood components and the antibacterial effect of wood extracts

    Sorry for being late, was quite busy with a DIY project of mine for the last month. Watched the video now, from beginning till the end. These DIY projects are always super interesting to watch. Although the video is 18 minutes and when you present it like this it looks that is all easy but I know how much effort and planning goes into this. Good job 👍

      Thanks I appreciate it!! This project was a little more demanding, but I am glad that I realized it.

      Why does it sound like Pompiduk is "negging" you. Like picking someone up at a bar with a soft insult followed by a "sorta" compliment. Like he's busy and he took the time to view your 18 minute video and it was just "good". I really liked your content and what you've created has a top down view (fish when added) and a profile view of ghe plant. Great creativity!

    Wonderful 👍🏻
    I live in Malaysia where one can buy ponds like this in plant nurseries. They are made from natural clay, no hole at the bottom and glazed inside that made them perfect to hold water. I have a few ponds glazed with azure blue and earth colour.
    I use them for guppy, platy, tetra and swordtail.
    And for the plants I planted fragrant screwpine, lotus, yellow iris and typha grass.
