    I never really comment on UA-cam videos, but I can 100% attest to using Playlist Supply to find playlisters. I've managed to create my own database of over 250 genre-relevant playlists almost entirely from Playlist Supply and got a song last year to over 80k streams on Spotify in large part due to the early playlist momentum which allowed the song to get pushed out by algorithmic playlists (for reference: I had maybe 4-5k streams total (releasing music for 7 months) prior to that song and this was the first song where I really tried to scale playlist outreach using this tool).
    Song still gets like 20-40 streams per day and came out almost a year ago, pretty cool to see.
    Keep in mind - this still takes work haha - was probably 3-4 days of hours searching hundreds of keywords to cover my genre, then you still have to put in the work to systematically reach out to all the playlisters for each launch, write a good emails, maintain relationships, etc., but if you're willing to do the work, this tool is a game changer.

      @@k0d4m4 I mean don't get me wrong, I still go the playlist route - but it's about finding real playlisters with actual listeners. Getting junk streams can, among other things, totally screw up your metadata - so if you even happen to get any algorithmic push, it'll push it to the wrong audience. Gotta play the long (or smart) game with this stuff for sure.

    Good stuff Andrew, thanks for the video man. Problem with all of this is that Spotify is saturated and the majority of the playlists (apart from the ones owned by Spotify) ask you for money. So, you end up paying Playlist Supply to find you a playlist and then you have to pay to be on that playlist. I think as you have said on previous videos, submithub ends up being your best option.

    It's actually against Spotify TOS to charge people for a playlist placement. For the sake of protecting your account status on Spotify, say no!

      It can take a few minutes to load the playlist info, but it shows stuff on the screen as its loading. Could be their server issues or Spotify server issues. Maybe hit up their customer support.

    Relating to this specific video, would you say there is value in putting your own contact information in your own playlists in hopes that artists will contact you for entry? What would be some benefits of doing this, if any? How can individual curators (real people, not Spotify employees) benefit from this process?

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  2 роки тому +1

      Perhaps it would be good to offer trades with the artists hitting you up? So if your playlist fits your music and you like their song, you agree to add it if they add your song to their playlist. Just an idea though.
      Could also be good from a networking standpoint. Collaborating with other artists and all that.

    Hi Andrew,
    I noticed you have Pro Unlimited on your SoundCloud and I would really love your honest opinion on the subscription features, especially monetization, playlists, and advanced audience insights. From what I've heard, Pro Unlimited is not worth it's hype, but the way it's marketed makes it look like it could provide useful features and increase stream revenue. How many streams on Soundcloud would you need to be able to pay off the cost of the subscription service? And what're some ways to funnel SoundCloud users to your profile?
    Every single one of your videos has been a huge help so far. Thank you for getting this info out there, you are probably literally saving artist's lives.

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  2 роки тому +1

      Honestly I don't think its worth it unless you have a significant SoundCloud presence. The stream royalty rate seems to be roughly in line with Spotify, better in some cases and worse in others. Its also nice to have that extra data.
      I really only got it so I could try it out and eventually make a video about it, and I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I only have about 500 followers on SoundCloud and only get around 500-700 plays per month, but if you had like 10X those numbers then i'd consider saying its worth it.
      I find it somewhat offensive that they charge you money to be able to monetize your music. It costs significantly more than DistroKid per year, and it gives you so much less.

    Could you do a video on the pros and cons of posting music on services like Artlist for licencing music. Apparenlty you can make good money out of it but there is not clear data on that.
    Thank you in advance.

    These playlists will harm streams per listener ratio and then affect algorithm is this not a good reason to not do this?

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  2 роки тому

      Playlisting by itself as a concept isn't entirely bad. The problem is if you rely on playlisting as your main promotion method or hire companies that just run bots on their playlists. Getting on some small highly targeted playlists won't hurt you, and may make it easier for Spotify to figure out who you sound like.
      If you were to hire a playlist company and they throw you on 5 large playlists that don't really make sense, and give you tons of awful data, that will hurt you.
      I tend to avoid all large playlists even on SubmitHub for this reason. If someone has a small follower playlist its very unlikely they grew it in a sketchy way.

    👎 99% of people who have their email in there are going to ask you for money and/or spam you with emails going forwards about gaining streams etc... That's what happened when I used data that was extracted from this site last year, don't recommend! Also most genuine playlists wouldn't want to get people submitting to them through email as they only want to spend time reviewing submissions they will be paid for, so I really don't see how this works anymore besides getting lucky with a very low number of genuine playlist owners who really care about the music!

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  2 роки тому +1

      thanks for sharing that! It sounds like some others have had great experiences, and others bad experiences. Perhaps it depends on the genre and how people filter the playlists. Personally i'd avoid any large playlists, small playlists are unlikely to ask for a fee or be botted.

    • @duckduckgoose8049
      @duckduckgoose8049 2 роки тому +1

      Not necessarily. Playlists are a great way to get your music discovered and discover new music yourself. There are a few fake playlists out there though, so you have to be careful. There are videos up on how to avoid fake playlists!

    • @lostlumens9535

      @@duckduckgoose8049 Agreed - a lot of the debate over Facebook Ads vs. Playlisting gets into the weeds of things like save rates, skip rates, popularity score, etc. (generally speaking, if someone comes to your song via an ad, they're probably more likely to listen to the song multiple times, save it, etc. than someone who happens to find it on a genre playlist).
      Pitching to playlisters costs time, whereas Facebook ads cost money. One isn't inherently "better" than the other - they just have different exchanges of value.
      Just a matter of prioritizing what matters most and understanding the tradeoffs of cost vs. impact. Good luck!
