Dear Andrew, music marketing is not only related to the gender of the music (what's working for someone not necessarily working for someone else) but also the quality of the music, and neither less Luck is also playing a part. We all just look for the trigger who could star rocket our music to a large audience. Thanks for sharing your experience and your really instructive videos.
Yeah totally! The music has to be high quality for marketing to work well. Also what works well for one artist may not work as well for another artist, kind of like how some artists get most of their results from Facebook and others get most from Instagram. Some artists are naturals at making engaging or even viral social media content and others shake with fear at the idea of getting in front of a camera.
You mentioned in a video that it would be usefull if you could see save rate, streams per listener and so on over 12 months, not only 28 days. I found out how. Click music, then releases, and click the song from there, then set it to last 12 months and you will see the stream to listener ratio etc
the GOAT. I wanna ask though, would you recommend FB ads mixed with a bit of user-generated playlisting or would you recommend staying away from user-generated playlists altogether?
Hey Andrew, do you know if its possible to get the country, age, placement breakdown per content viewed (so by conversion). I wanna see who actually converted and who didnt on my page, but facebooks always says it wont show it because of ios14 (ive seen in your videos from earlier that they indeed showed this information, but they changed it as it seems). I ran ads only to android users to test and it still wont show 😐. I guess i could track them by enabling googles tracking system or sth else on my website(im not using toneden but built my own landing page), but i was hoping for having all the data inside facebook (for convenience)
So Facebook ads are a way better way to spend your promo budget than user/curated playlists. And they also lead to getting on algorithmic playlists, which yield better results than user/curated playlists.
Exactly! In several cases playlists may provide more streams up-front for less money than ads, but long term playlists lose big time. Even if you never get algorithmic playlist coverage the repeat listen rate and follow rate is SO much higher for ads than playlisting, so those factors alone will make ads win long term.
Hey Andrew I have a question! How do you end up getting on discover weekly? I’ve been running ads for $30 a day & im getting good results & triggers release radar but I haven’t triggered discovery weekly
If you go to MusicStax you'll see the popularity index for your song. Typically I don't see Discover Weekly kick in until a popularity index of about 30%. Its also worth noting that songs don't always get a massive push the first week you get on, you might get like 50 streams the first time you get on and a month later get a few thousand. DW goes up and down over time, but getting on it at all is a good sign. In terms of numbers that it takes to get 30% popularity, usually I see 10k+ streams, over 1,000 saves and several hundred playlist adds. But sometimes it takes less and sometimes it takes more. Some songs have an easier time than others. In general more common genres like pop, hip hop and EDM tend to have bigger DW pushes than rock, metal and country where i've seen radio and your daily mix be more prominent (at least in the artists data i've seen).
You should make a video listing websites/services that everyone should stay away from because I’m currently using services that claim to get you into legit user playlists but it’s hard to know which ones are fake
Honestly I would LOVE to review every single bad product or service i've ever used. The problem with that is it would be basically an attack on their brand that could harm and lose them business - and thats where those people might pursue legal action even if its not justified. I have no problem telling people 1-on-1 which things to avoid, but in a public setting I won't go there.
yep! Just added this to my 'to-do' video list. In general though my process hasn't changed much and the interface hasn't changed much either. However I think the extra experience would lead me to make a more useful video than the older one.
Andrew, can I ask a question.. "why do you delete posts that don't agree with the Facebook doctrine?". What about a fair and open community for constructive discussion. Nobody appears to have an axe to grind or are making unreasonable claims. Surely all constructive opinion is as valid as your own?
I almost never delete comments here unless it’s blatant spam or self promotion. I even leave up generally negative ones or people that disagree, so I’m not sure what you’re talking about.
Hey Andrew will release radar only give me boost the following Friday after a release or could it come the week after if I haven’t yet hit 20% popularity index also do you need 20% to get the boost or will I still get one if at 15%
Every Friday release radar will update, and you can only be on release radar for 28 days. So you can get that algorithmic release radar boost the 2nd week, 3rd week or 4th week.
Hey Andrew, if you use all the tips and setups for FB ads in your videos but the conversations aren't resulting in any spotify streams, why could that be? I tinker daily with the country and keywords, and get about 100 link clicks, but haven't got a single stream single I started (I use hypeddit)
Definitely more effective after release. Pre saves are incredibly expensive, and saves are much easier to get after release. If people have a huge budget, like $2k+ for a song I might recommend a small $250 presave campaign but anything less than that I wouldn’t do it.
Hey Andrew, been loving your videos for the past year! Lots of high value stuff here, and I’m thinking about scheduling a consultation with you. My question is: do you recommend scheduling a few weeks before a song comes out? A few days before? 2 months before? Please let me know what you think is best 🤙
Hi Andrew I'm new on spotify and I have 2 questions for you one being: can I monetize my playlists without having 1000+ followers and how can I view streams and listeners of my playlist like you do on the video ?
Playlists themselves aren’t monetized on Spotify, the only way Spotify pays playlists is the songs on the playlists. You can make money with playlists by letting artists pitch to get on your playlists but you’d need a considerable size playlist. As far as data, the only data you get for playlists is for individual songs you have on the playlist. There is no extra data for the playlist as a whole aside from number of streams and listeners for specific songs.
im having trouble starting my facebook campaign, i want to book a consultation but its so expenisve ( im 17). Where can i pay for you to run ads for me instead?
So I don’t run ads as a service that often, but when I do it cost 3-10X the price of my consultations because it’s much more work. If you’re looking for the most affordable option I offer, it’s probably my Spotify growth machine course. If you chat with other people in the community you very well might find people willing to help you for less though. I know several of my students have started consulting or ad management companies and if you find someone new to it they’re probably cheaper than others.
Yeah definitely! For example make Spotify your main streaming platform you push the hardest, run ads for etc. Then on UA-cam make regular content, engage with people that comment, run small UA-cam ad campaigns for music videos. Much better than trying to grow 15 platforms at once.
@@AndrewSouthworth What would be an 'IDEAL' daily budget for UA-cam to start a campaign then to level it off..$10 or $20 a day? I'm thinking about a 2 to 3 grand budget per single per month as a starting point. God...could I hire YOU for my Spotify?!!
hello! anyone wanna have a private chat about this?? would love to pick somebody's brain..got a release coming out and really want to do my best to pick the best option have tried a couple of methods in the past but im starting to think its how im setting them up that are leading to lukewarm results :)
Hey there, why do you have this weird effect on your voice in all of your videos. It really hurts the ears on small speakers. Mids and Highs are way over the top while there are no lows at all. Still your content is top notch.
Hmm i'm not sure honestly. Its probably my compression settings in Premiere Pro. I just got a new mic today though so i'll be redoing my entire audio flow soon, since I already have the next 4 or 5 videos recorded it won't make it into a video for a couple weeks though.

Super insightful, Andrew thank you for this valuable information

yep! Just added this to my 'to-do' video list. In general though my process hasn't changed much and the interface hasn't changed much either. However I think the extra experience would lead me to make a more useful video than the older one.
Andrew Southworth that would be great as I hear UA-cam ads are very good at targeting your desired audience.

How much time does it normally take for a large DW spike? I'm on week 8 of my campaign but my DW is pretty tiny, with a popularity score of 33.

True, and there are way too many blogs with playlists that has zero engagement. No value time waste.

It seems my facebook ads are performing well, most of my clicks are coming bot prone markets, even when I avoid targeting those countries.
People discovering you via playlists are likely fans of that playlist. People discovering you via your profile are more likely to become your fans.
Thats definitely what i've noticed too.
If I concentrated on Spotify & UA-cam for marketing. Would that be a successful move? Im a Rap artist

The whole thing is a sham. I do a few videos on my channel to document my journey but I know the whole spotify thing still favours labels etc.
