I worked as a auto mechanic and heavy equipment /ag mechanic for 30 plus years ! he is right the plug being hard to pull apart due to its location ! but ! but what I learned over the years is a electrical connection will be the culprit a lot of the times so I always do a wiggle test on all wires and also pull the plugs apart and clean the contacts and put them back together and try it out
Glad you did this video and put the ebay link. I'm just waiting for the day I bust my ass when they don't deploy properly. You definitive eased my apprehension on doing it myself.
This really help me out. Just purchased a 2017 F150 Platinum Ecoboost 3.5 and the running boards are not working. Dealership is going to look at it in a week but I needed to see this video. Thank you
Thank you for posting this video. My driver side boards started to make a horrible noise in the last week. I took it to the dealership and they wanted to charge me $900 to get the motor replaced. Now, I have the confidence of doing it myself.
Thanks for doing this. I haven't seen a clear enough video like this to actually replace the motors. I hope the driver's side is as easy. The links helped too!
The crooked dealer tried ripping me off too. Quotes me $1600 just for the drivers side. Did it myself fro $600. I bought genuine Mopar parts so it can be done cheaper with China parts
Best I've found for winter was clean them out well! Some sort of pen lube get it smooth. Then some white grease, then fluid film on top. She ain't pretty, but did a whole Alberta winter with a smooth driver side board. Pretty sure I stripped my passenger side two winters ago, thus why I'm here 😅 it has its occasional Up's and Down's now. When it does move there's a nasty vibration from the motor, no grinding.... Moves up and down quickly when it does.
I can't argue with the all in one shotgun approach. You probably replaced more than you needed to. Nonetheless, you replaced what was wrong...whatever it was. Likely it was only the bushings in the hinge. The hinge bearings are usually the problem. It is unfortunate that Ford didn't design the hinges to be easily serviceable.
Great video almost exactly what I needed. My board needs to be replaced. Motors work fine. Will the board come off just by removing the 4 set screws (2 on each board)?
So when you plug it back in, does it need to be in a specific location, or does the car automatically detect when it has reached upper or lower limit? Mine is down and won't go up, the gears in the motor are stripped, but even though it is down, the truck thinks it is up, and when I open the door, the motor tries to lower it and won't stop running.
Excellent video. Once you removed the (2) allen fasteners each end of the board, did the board come off the brackets or did you need to slide it off, parallel to the truck?
How do you know if the motor is bad or if it's seized brackets? Mine is in the down position. I was able to manually push them up at one point but now they are stuck in the down position. Thanks...
Just a note. If they are stuck in the up position you are going to have a fun time getting that top nut off with the boards in the way. It can be done it’s just a pain
Iam super confused about this car. I bought 3 month ago and iam having so many problems may be I’ll return , I love this car but problem hurts me 😢 I went service center for Running board issue they said it’s need software update, they did and again Iam facing running board problem
My motor went out and I really don’t even want these running boards anymore. But now that I can get the boards to go down to give me access to the bolts, it’s impossible to uninstall them. Anyone have a similar experience? Advice would be HUGE!
That's not always the case..My situation the board comes down but doesnt retract..I have to manually push it up, when done so it falls back down on its own...

I'm about to replace mine with fixed. Just tired of messing with them. Good video.
We don’t care

I loved the laugh when the moment of truth. Hahahha now i am in a same boat.
Thanks, great video! I just got a quote for $2,700 to replace both motors...
The crooked dealer tried ripping me off too. Quotes me $1600 just for the drivers side. Did it myself fro $600. I bought genuine Mopar parts so it can be done cheaper with China parts

Yep. They should have put zerk fittings on so that you could grease the 16 pivot points on each side. I have a video series that shows how to do that.
Great video almost exactly what I needed. My board needs to be replaced. Motors work fine. Will the board come off just by removing the 4 set screws (2 on each board)?
Haha! I did not fall but came close to it when mine first started acting up! Lol
Thanks for doing this video. This has given me the confidence to order them into it myself. Also mine are getting so slow they just don't even work
I just did my drivers side the other day. Super easy after the first time
Might have to do the for my 2020 denali.
Great video. Will these work on a navigator (2019)? I'm guessing yes?
Thanks for the video. Got it changed easily enough except now when it should be retracted its out and when it should be out its retracted. Thoughts??
Great video dude!!! Thanks for doing this.
Where did you get the motor Amazon or eBay????
hello auto dad i have the same problem with the steps not fully closing hopefully its just the same false alarm problem
Excellent video. Once you removed the (2) allen fasteners each end of the board, did the board come off the brackets or did you need to slide it off, parallel to the truck?
Yes, the running board pulled right up and off
@@AutoDad thank you!!!! Someone broke the back of my running board so it was just hanging! Going to try this
How do you know if the motor is bad or if it's seized brackets? Mine is in the down position. I was able to manually push them up at one point but now they are stuck in the down position. Thanks...
I'm not sure how to tell, but the replacement comes as a motor and hinge
Just a note. If they are stuck in the up position you are going to have a fun time getting that top nut off with the boards in the way. It can be done it’s just a pain
excellent video! Thanks for sharing
Hey auto dad where do I locate the power source to plug or unplug power to running board??
Thanks for your Video, really helpful!
How are these holding up? My motor is all degraded and rotting. I need to replace the passenger side.
They are working perfectly
Can you recommend a repair shop to do this for me?

What is the name for the motors for the stairs
boards go up but the rear door doesn't go all the way up and I can't figure out why??
Iam super confused about this car. I bought 3 month ago and iam having so many problems may be I’ll return , I love this car but problem hurts me 😢 I went service center for Running board issue they said it’s need software update, they did and again Iam facing running board problem
What my running boards are doing is they are switching from auto to the off position. It does it every so often. Any idea why?
When you bought this ? I bought just 3 month ago and it’s start making problem now, sometime running board not open , don’t know what to do
I watched another video on power boards and he said keep the hinges lubricated
Mine goes up after I close the door but then comes back down and stays ants suggestions
🌴🌴🌴 Before you use the pliers to pull the plug apart , I found a small nub that you press on it and you pull the plug apart without need of pliers .
How to reset the runing boards 09 ford F150 fx4 I don't find the reset button
My motor went out and I really don’t even want these running boards anymore. But now that I can get the boards to go down to give me access to the bolts, it’s impossible to uninstall them. Anyone have a similar experience? Advice would be HUGE!
Iam having this problem , don’t know what to do , return this car or repair 👩🔧
Why not just clean and lube the hinges? They’ll work like new.
My motors were bad. Tried the hinge approach and did nothing
Yeah, early in the game it will help but years of salt and dirt and the up and down motion destroys the motors.
Only one running board doesn’t work .
Having a brain cramp, where did you order the motor assembly from?
Links in the description for both eBay and Amazon
Lol mine went and I fell out of my truck just like that
95 % of the time the hinges are seized, that’s ur problem. U gotta lubricant them! Sorry to say but u bought those for nothing
Hinges were fine
That's not always the case..My situation the board comes down but doesnt retract..I have to manually push it up, when done so it falls back down on its own...
Motor us in up position on new assembly. How do I get it in down position
