The tech Tuesday guys made this so easy. I could not figure out how to get the running boards to stay deployed. They explained it and now I am all set. Great support. thanks.

The information is somewhat correct. If you select "out" mode, it only puts the running boards out temporarily. Once you go above 5 MPH, they will retract and return back to auto. Other than pulling a fuse, unplugging the motors or possibly changing mod-codes, I don't think you can lock the running boards in the out position permanently.

Just did that on my 2019 platinum, put in “out” but as soon as you get above 3mph they retract and reset to Auto.

2017 Ford Expedition - My passenger side running board takes up to 30 seconds to deploy when opening the front passenger door. When all other doors are open the running board deploys immediately. Is there a sensor located someplace that has gone bad or perhaps need cleaning?

One important reason to lock the boards in the up position is if you should happen to be laying beneath the boards, say on a creeper for some type of service, and someone opens a door, there is a potential crushing hazard in that scenario. There is an important and little known mechanical method of locking the boards in the up position without using the cluster 5 way settings system. I have done it twice but am not 100% sure how I did it. I believe I pressed the start button activating the cluster but not starting the engine, without sitting on the front seat I simply depressed the brake pedal and released. The boards went up and locked. It was then safe to service the vehicle below the running boards. I then had to go into the dash settings and found that they were indeed set to off. I simply set them to auto again and I was back in business. Our Ford dealer in town had not heard of this. It would seem that this could occur with owners and they were unaware of why they stopped deploying. I need to find a printed version of this process to be sure however. All I know is that it works every time.

    Power-Deployable Running Boards
The running boards automatically extend down and out when you open the door. This can help you enter and exit your vehicle.
    Automatic Power Stow
When you close the doors, the running boards return to the stowed position after a two-second delay.
    Manual Power Deploy
You can manually operate the running boards in the information display.
    Select Settings.
    Select Advanced Settings.
    Select Vehicle.
    Select Power Running Boards.
Select your desired power running board setting.
Set the running boards in the deployed position to access the roof.
The running boards return to the stowed position and enter automatic mode when the vehicle speed exceeds 3 mph (5 km/h).
    Enabling and Disabling
You can enable and disable the power running board feature in the information display.
When disabled, the running boards move to the stowed position regardless of the door position.
When enabled, the running boards move back to the correct positions based on the door position.
    Bounce-back
The running board will reverse direction and move to the end of travel if it encounters an object while moving.

How are running boards controlled on older Navigators that don't have the options screen in the dash?

    • @SherwoodFord
      @SherwoodFord  2 роки тому

Use the 5-way controller on the steering wheel to make selections in your instrument cluster display.
Settings > Advanced Settings > Vehicle > Pwr Running Board
Then select Either Auto, Off or Out.

I have a 2014 Lincoln Navigator and the passenger side running board will not stay up....goes up half way then comes back down...sometimes goes up all the way. Is the problem the running board motor? Can it be replaced?

    • @SherwoodFord

These running board motors can have problems, so best to have it diagnosed and replaced as necessary
