  • Trickle Trickle - P.M.
    Single A-side, EMI 7C 006-35811, Sweden 1981
“Trickle, trickle, splash, splash - tell me how long will this rain last…” Following a week of heavy rains I just had to upload this one, a rare Swedish cover of “Trickle Trickle”, originally released in 1958 by doo-wop group The Videos, and then again in 1979 by The Manhattan Transfer. Written by Clarence Bassett (who were also one of five members in The Videos). Swedish lyrics by Bertil Engh and Monica Forsberg.
The artist credited is P.M. which after some research actually seems to be pseudonym for the Swedish group Pastellerna feat Monica Forsberg. Pastellerna was a vocal group founded in the early 70s with a handful of hits on Svensktoppen and a 1978 appearance in Melodifestivalen. The band members had changed slightly over the years and after this single the band took a long break. However, some of the members (including Monica) re-emerged as the group Ritz, who participated in Melodifestivalen both 1982 and 1983. A wild guess is that P.M. is what later became known as Ritz.
The Manhattan Transfer was very successful in Scandinavia during these years, and their albums were high on the sales chart including “Extensions” which was the album that spawned this single. However P.M.’s version of Trickle Trickle spent 1 week on Svensktoppen, the Swedish radio chart, in June 1979 as #9. It’s only released on this single and was a new discovery for me.
Enjoy! And if you do like it - let me know with a thumbs up or a comment! :) Or simply subscribe to my channel for more rare goodies. Here I present music that isn't easily available anywhere, always ripped from vinyl from my own collection.
