- It's only rained three times this year, spring, summer and fall. This evening I planned on cutting some firewood but the weather did not cooperate, We did do a little heavy lifting test with the RK 24 and went and checked out the pond problems and how I'm going to fix it.

Hello to the Morgans from Lancaster County, Pa., had the same pond problem this past spring with a 6" overflow . When the ice melted I had stringy algae all over the pond (first time ever after an ice melt) so I got the peddle boat out and caught it as I Peddled and slowly shoved it down the pipe. Next day I did the same thing but also included some big leaves still floating on the water. Yep, I clogged it up. It was clear on the 8' vertical so I kept screwing 10' threaded rods together and shoving it into my 70' horizontal with a special end that I made to grab the clog. No luck. Two weeks later it passed the clog - about a 30 pound "turd". I pray yours might clear on its own. Absolutely great videos. Thanks for putting them together.

I have never been a fan of the little bitty tractors. My lawn mower has as many HP as the RK-24. When I bought my wife her JD 3038E, I was not sure it was big enough but it will do everything she wants to do with it. We used it for cutting some firewood last year. We took the tractor on a trailer to the trees, cut the trees into about 12' chunks, loaded them on the trailer and then as we took them off the trailer at home, I would cut them into the 24" lengths for the wood furnace. It was a lot less work than I expected.
After an exceptionally stressful day at work it was great watching your channel. Something about driving around the property on the RK tractor allows me to take my mind off of work. Thanks Mike!
I gave up long ago. I put up a ez up tent over my splitter to keep dry . It keeps me cool and shaded when it's hot n sunny.👍
Mike - I liked the video so much, I watched it twice. The weather here in Sutton, Massachusetts has been the same. The wettest autumn I can remember. 2 to 3 days of rain and 1 day of no rain. Notice I did not say 1 day of sunshine, a miserable, depressing and gloomy autumn, to say the least. If this continues, we're going to get hammered with record breaking snow falls. One we will be telling our great grand children about.

Keep stacking the hardwoods with value. You'll easily turn 500 board feet an hour into a Lucas mill and plenty of firewood. Then a mill building using passive solar with wood heat to dry the wood and heat the greenhouse as well as geo thermal that adds cooling for the plant end of the building. See Nebraska farmer raising oranges all winter and summer. Insulate and slip form walls with hempcrete over post and beam construction. All you need is to barter hardwoods for the roofing materials. Glad to see the anchor seal on the ends of the saw logs. Beautiful property and land management.

It's like you read my mind. I've been looking at subcompact tractors and wondering if the would handle logs well. Just got done harvesting here in Nebraska. can't wait to start getting firewood out of the tree lines after tillage work

Everybody here in Ct is sick of the rain also. I just hope it doesn't continue when the temps drop, cause that means snow. Not good ! Great video Mike.
I wonder if you had a large enough air tank and hose that you could blast air into the pipe and try and break up the clog. Or even something similar to a treble hook and snag any debris such as sticks. Good luck with the pond and rain. All the rain we received I really wish we got it spread out over the summer. Skid steers and clay mud don't mix! Thanks for sharing.
Sub-compact tractors will surprise yo every time!!!
Are they as good as the old Massey 35 135 or similar sized farm tractor
The old Massey 35 was a benchmark for Massey Ferguson for sure. I'd say a sub-compact tractor can do more in a property-maintenance sense than the Massey 35 or 135. Those Masseys were more an agricultural tractor and the sub-compacts would certainly lose out in that area!!
You should have use for a small forest log trailer w or w/o crane for the sub compacts to move your logs. I find it better than carry them sideways one at a time.
Maybe you could use the RK 24 just a little more with wood in the woods? Let us know if the tires are too small out there. I sure like that grapple too.

We’re up in the Blue Ridge mountains and we’re seeing the same pattern....rain a few days, dry for a day or two. Repeat. It could be interesting this winter... Take care!
Mike I am sure now I'm going to buy the RK 24. Thanks for your demoing all of tractors. I was leaning towards the 37 but I think it's bigger than I need, now that rural King has put quick attach to the loader and I can get the grapple for the 24 I think it would be best for my use. Enjoy your posts, I find them informative on most things.
How much land do you have? I have 10acres and am also leaning toward the RK24. My one concern is it having only a 2 range transmission rather than 3.
I have 2 1/2 acres but do work with many of my neighbors. And I think the RK 24 would be the best fit. I do things for friends also.
I think only 2 range would still be ok. Unless you are working the tractor day in day out and so I would go to the RK 37 in that case.
My gosh that is a good looking Log. I'll bet you could get a sawmill for loan the same way you got the tractors. Love to see you saw some lumber. Love your videos.
I don't have a dam on my pond but with the amount of rain we have been getting in Ohio as well my pond has grown approximately twenty feet completely around the original size. I excavated a low spot in my woods about ten acres and ten feet deep. My pond side deck and gazebo are under water now. My neighbor has a bond with dam and he's having a little trouble keeping his pipe cleaned from debris. Like the videos.

This not related to your comment but if you are a Hubbard we might be related through Marriage. My sister was married to Richard Hubbard and had 2 kids. There were in the Dalton, Orrville and Wooster area of Ohio. My niece and Nephew both still live there.

I like the sound of the RK24 diesel over the the bigger tractor. The 37 sounds kinda mettalic, sort of like rods pounding in a gas engine. I'd be proud tp own either tractor.
Great video Mike. I see a beautiful Silverado Crew cab in the driveway at about the 2:25 mark. New truck? (That one looks identical to mine). Wonder if many rewatched the siphon video because they are winterizing their pools and ponds for the season. I know that was a memorable video I book marked.
So Mike, if many of your viewers, me included, started pestering you to fix the stand pipe in your pond, say on or around the first day of Spring 2019. would you get it fixed next year? Pestering starts on or about March 20th, with weekly reminders in current video comments. (all in jest)
I am going to look at a grapple as soon as the owner goes and gets it from where he has it stored. It is a 72”.

Hey RK tractor guy! How many tractors has Mike sold for you all. And he is still at it. Don't know about any signed contract before he got the tractors but he is really working for RK. Maybe you could make an announcement if you get my jest. He deserves it. It will dry up sometime Mike!
Mike, I think there are sub-compacts, and then there are sub-compacts like the RK 24.
It has larger wheels than many of them, and seems all-around more rugged. If I buy a tractor, it will probably be the one.
Great video Mike, good to see you are getting the problem with overflow taken care of. Really like the sub-compact and what it will do . Like to see it at work in the woods also. Thanks for sharing. Without the weight of the backhoe as ballast, would it still pick it up? Saw the siphon video months ago and it was great for folks that didn't know how to do that without electric pumps. I see your trees are changing colors really nicely, here in upstate South Carolina very few have started changing. Look forward to your videos Mike, thanks for doing it.

I believe video #258 & #268 show the area he reseeded. Both are backpack blower videos. I hope that helps. If you're referring to the trail video which he seeded I've not seen any footage of that.

Buried my 1734e to the fuel tanks the other down on a low area of our trail system.... R4 and loaded rears don't work in thick mud very well took some loader trickery and the side by side to get her out now I gotta do trail repair
I looked at RK and they are sweet. But I have trouble trusting my investment to a store that seems in disarray.
Please consider the following: Build a small (36' × 36') pole barn (maybe a collaboration with RR building). Put in a work shop (aka Dad cave) and put in an electric band mill and poof you have somewhere to work when it is dark, raining, or snowing). Most of your problems solved. Money? Keep up the great content and the good marketing that you have done in the past and I think this will pay for itself. You have great content. It is time to put it all together.
Oh I have a lot of things in the works and will get there, I am balancing quite a bit but couldn't be happier. I work about 50 hours a week at my real job, spend the rest of my time on projects, videos, editing and everything involved with youtube. Probably another 50 hours a week there
I know this is late and you dont have these anymore, but Im looking to purchase a RK. Did you ever figure out the max load you can pick up with the RK 24? I have 8-10 foot 20 - 24 inch diameter logs, polpar, hickory, red oak. For the price, if I can lift these things onto my saw mill, this is a fantastic machine for the price, otherwise I would have to buy up to the 37 at a significant price increase.
Not asking for you opinion as to which one you would use, unless you are willing to offer, but Im not sure this would be fair to you or you would be comfortable. Curious to see if you were able to max out the 24 and at what weight?

Gotta question i test drove the RK37 cab hydrostat and i noticed that i couldn't tilt lift or lower the loader at the same time it like canceled 1 out. Is there like an adjustment on the pump or is that how it is?

I must caution you though regarding the sub-compact tractor in mud. Now I realize that your property and soil is different from mine (North Florida and in the area I got stuck mostly peat), but I managed to get my sub-compact tractor (John Deere 1025R) buried in mud up to the floorboard a couple of weeks ago. Getting it out was an adventure (had to disconnect the bush hog from the back). I got it out using a compact tractor (John Deere 3032) and my Polaris Ranger. Luckily I have a winch on the front of my Ranger which helped out tremendously.
I would LOVE to put a grapple on the front of my sub-compact. What all is involved as far as the extra hydraulics?
Same here Mike! We had a dry dry summer but this fall it’s won’t stop raining. I live in NW Ontario. We run solar and we cannot get enough sun to keep the batteries charged. I miss the blue sky.

I’d love to see a lift-off between the Kubota and the RK’s. I love my Orange tractor but if I ever had to get another, Red might be a better choice. Some actual work comparisons would be great to see. I know specs never tell the true story. Thx
There is two red tractors that are at least on paper very competitive. Thats my dilemma dont forget the Massey Ferguson GC series sub Compact. For me RK and Massey Ferguson is slightly better to operate over the Kubota. But the two red tractors are so close i really like to see just what the RK is capable of. Lots of video on the Massey but nothing on the RK except for Mike here. Mike has done good showing basic operations but need to see its safe limits.

hydraulics are capable of lifting a lot more then is either safe or wise. You could easily try to lift things that will cause the rear wheels to come off the ground or even bend or break something. The big question is is it smart or safe?

First of all i want to thank you and Rural King both for making these videos possible. So few too no video or reviews are out there for these tractors. I am personally in need of a sub compact and after looking at several have narrowed my choices down too the RK 24 and the GC 1710 Massey Ferguson these two are so close in comparison the choice is really tough. There is tons of video on the Massey Ferguson but you are the only source for the RK. So far you have done a great job showing the basic operations of the RK 24. My question is it possible to put the 24 to a real test of the safe limits of this tractor. The criteria is the handling on realatve steap ground mowing or working say 30 degrees or a bit more. The depth and breakout force of the backhoe and maybe a better example of max safe lift capacity. I and my wife are very impressed with this machine we are just looking for some good reason to choose the RK 24 over the Massey Ferguson. If you could do this it would be greatly appreciated by me and maybe others that are on the fence with this new line of tractors.
@RK Tractor Guy thank you for your feed back i already have the specs from my local Rural King and must say really nice people there. Although i agree with you on pushing safty limits been on equipment all my life. Seeing a tractor or any piece of equipment working at its capacity in the field doesnt alway match factory specs. Something i have learned with years of experience. I would never ask anyone to exceed safety . But i live in WV and got banks i mow that are near 30 degrees. I also have landscaping work and brush cutting. I would like to see and know if the RK 24 can handle the work and conditions. Most any tractor can do the basic stuff but it also needs to handle those jobs that pushes it to its limits. As i stated they are tons of videos posted for Massey Ferguson GC1710 being put to the real test. But Mike is the only one showing th he RK. I would just like to see it tested doing some of the tough stuff. As i said most tractors can do basic chores but is the RK tough enough to stand out over its rival.
@RK Tractor Guy thank you for being so honest in your reply. I will be.making my purchase in early spring as i intend to have a substantial down payment. This gives me a few months to put my finances together and to shop and make the best decision on my purchase. I am almost 60 and spent most of my life on equipment of all sorts including tractors so i know equipment pretty good. You all at Rural King have done a great job on these tractors in the short time you been involved in this market. I have watched most of Mikes videos its what first put me onto RK. I must say your tractors are impressive and certainly compete beside one of the best in Massey thats why i am on this 50/50 balancing act. Knowing machines as i do i am confident the RK is tougher than Mike has shown as of yet. I'm hoping in the few months before i have to make my purchase that you and Mike can find a way to demonstrate a little more and better the toughness of these tractors. Just picking up a 700 pound log waist high a couple times isnt a good test of the loader more practical you show lifting a load of logs up about 6 feet as loading on a truck A shallow drainage ditch isnt a good test for the back hoe but reaching into a 5 or 6 foot hole scratching out some shale rock would be or ripping out some big roots digging out a large stump this is what we normally have to deal with. I've not seen anything on the mid-mower and here most yards have grassy banks so it would benefit to see this tractor mowing some banks. This is what your customers in my area want to see. I hope too see some of this in the next 2 or 3 months. To compete with your competitors you got to step the game up a little and impress your customers, a wow factor on these videos would be worth thousands of dollars in advertising. You want me and many others as customers and spend money with you. You got to be more impressive because like you said Massey as well as many others been around along time. So to stand out you got to show what your tractors are capable of. You cant do that by babying them sorry this went long but i am serious about your tractor but your competitor is very capable. Prove yours is better.

But see i am a bit smarter and experienced than average. Like i told you i am very experienced and i can tell when equipment is pushed or babied. See the problem is you said you think in Mikes opinion he is pushing this tractor. First off you are making an assumption and from a customer standpoint basing your marketing totally on the sole ability of one operator. You also seem to think i am referencing your competitors marketing that is far from the truth also. I am talking about real people that have bought and paid for your competitors tractors and posted videos about them with no manufacturer ties. You are not telling the truth about thousands on you tube talking and showing your tractors. I told you i have done my research and have spent hours trying to find anything and everything. The only video on you tube is the promotional videos posted by Rural King and Outdoors with the Morgans. I did find a couple others one on the RK 55 and one on the 24 by someone who i doubt even fully understood he actually owned a tractor. Certainly no one of experience so i dont understand why you would lie about thousands posting about these tractors. I only wish i could meet you personally that i could show you what real life working these tractor really is. Fortunately i do believe that the RK 24 as all your tractor is well built. Where they are built means little to me or most of anyone buying a sub compact. Like you said they all are built overseas anymore America hasnt manufactured much of anything in years sadly. I have spent over 50 years on equipment its all i have ever done. I have used farm tractors in farming also in logging. So you cant spin a story like your last post so i will say this. What do you have to hide by not being willing to push your tractors? Your tractors are better than that i just want you to show it. One more question what is your total experience on tractors to make such a judgment of what someones abilities are to make the kind of statement you did in last post? I am only trying to help you better market your own tractors while helping potential customers see what your tractor are capable of. Using my experience knowledge and abilities.

@RK Tractor Guy Thanks will make attempt to contact you soon. Just maybe we can help each other out. I do really like what RK has to offer. But as a customer of knowledge and experience seeing what makes your this tractor stand out is an important selling point. What Mike is doing is fantastic but like you said your machines are the new kids on the block. So you need to do what it takes to make your machines stand out. Thats something that has been done from the beginning of TV in commercial advertising. Example when Ford or Chevy promoted there trucks hauling and towing. They didn't go out and calculate a safe load to demonstrate. They put the heaviest load they possibly could or hooked to the heaviest tow possible well past specs. Its not that difficult to exceed specs and still be perfectly safe for the operator.

I'd like to see the 24 & 37 attempting to pick up a loaded IBC container. I think it would be too much for the 24 but I believe the 37 could do it.

I actually wondered the same thing. Went and pulled the specs off the RK website, did a bit of quick guestimating, and decided the ratings for Sherman suggest it wouldn't even be able to break the load off the ground. OTOH, the 37 would have no trouble getting it off the ground, but getting it high would be pushing or exceeding its rated limits.
So, after that, my question became if the 37 can safely lift it high enough to put on a trailer or in a truck bed and how well it handles say, going up or down that hill beside the splitter.
BTW, any plans to name the 37?
What other type of "skid steer" type attachments can you run with the RK24? Is the 24 a high flow hydraulic machine?

I live on a lake in Mi. & my sump pump is turning on every 15 min.to remove the water. The record rainfall in 1877 was 47.58 we have accumulated 48.66 inches this year so far. Since 2015 to 2018 my lake has risen 16 Ft. & the water is now approx. 6 Ft. over my sea wall. The township is getting permission to pump water from 2 lakes to another to relieve the flooding. Everyone should be concerned about climate change.
Some of the older homes do not have sump pumps as it was not required back in the 50"s.
