- This is a recreation of the title track of Metallica's new album "72 Seasons".
All instruments except the original vocals were remade, played and recorded from scratch, using mixing and sound design techniques to get close enough to the sonic style of Metallica's legendary classic tones, such as Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets.

the ride the lightning tone is literally perfect like it’s so crunchy and so frosty idk how to explain its just so RRAAAHHHAH
It’s infused with electricity and lightning ⚡️
Frosty...almost as though you were just trapped under...
heheh
sounds like you're in an underwater dungeon, and it's so fucking cool
Fr I had fade to black playing in my car the other day and it just hits on full volume
Frosty indeed, and that song made me feel it.
I can imagine Cliff playing 72 Seasons intro with fingers live 🔥
Its tremolo picked my guy. You can't get it to sound like that with fingers, which is the entire reason Rob played it with a pick. He can play any Cliff baseline he pleases with his fingers.
@@plasmakitten4261 YOU CAN TREMOLO PICK WITH FINGERS, MY GUY!
OT AT LEAST I CAN AND SO EVERY CLASSICAL GUITAR PLAYER CAN!
THE FACT THAT YOU CAN"T DOESN'T MEAN ANYONE CAN'T!
@@ladinark1672 It won't sound the same. Picks and fingers make different sounds. This is basic.
@@plasmakitten4261 It all depends on the attack. You can play with your fingers in such a way that it will sound as if a person is playing with a pick.
Cliff played 8th note octaves ("disco bass") a bunch of times when replicating the guitars note for note would've just sounded muddy. This is an amazing trick for cleaning things up and reducing fatigue without the bass line getting less exiting in the process
5:42 This drum fill totally sounds like something Lars would’ve played back in the 80’s.
There is a fill exactly like that in blackened
to bad he played it in 2023 not 1984
@@Septicshites 😂😂
Lars was one of my first inspirations so I don't mean this comment to be an insult. But as a drummer I can say it's probably not a good sign he's not progressed beyond that after 40 years. I released an album a year ago and I already am disappointed in the fills I played because I'm capable of much better ones today
@@Septicshitespeople dismiss him completely these days because he *DOES* do weird and off putting stuff live sometimes… but he’s still a great studio drummer and arranger. He’s awesome at putting songs together.
When you hear critiques of new Metallica material, it’s videos like these that make you realize that these songs would’ve been accepted if they were of a different time. We only put it under a microscope cause it’s NEW. When you’re a band whose covered so much ground and has embedded such a legacy, everything is under scrutiny. 72 Seasons should be appreciated for what it is, a product of where a band together for 40 years is putting their best foot forward.
Amen brother, perfectly put!
And I love the new album and this version equally this sounds really good its amazing what you can do with editing and technology on songs and make you're own versions of it
Yeahhh exactly!! If we forget about everything from 91-2008 then their career has been amazing ! Hit after hit :)
@@brokenteethalbumreviews5388 me too.
@@brokenteethalbumreviews5388 me too.
I can't put into words how better this sounds. It's almost like they're supposed to use old technology to record their albums.
they use less gain now is a big part of it
@@pogchamp7983 I think another big part of many groups in general is that when you're starting your band, and you don't have a fancy equipment, you are forced to compose riffs that sound good even if don't have the best tools.
@@kevinzx2917 That's very true
Modern recording tech makes metal sound way too clean/polished
@@RowdyAF Well, if that sh!t keeps improving Metal will become Plastic.
Bro please....make the full album, PLEASE this sounds surreal....
I definitely will bro 🤘 check out the others I’ve done so far!
I can only shake my head.
i agree this guy should be on their payroll this rules!!
@@zososoundif I can get this I can like die happy
@@zososoundI'm floored!! All this stuff sounds so authentic.. Please remix this whole album and make it the best album since And Justice for All!!
The riffs on this song sound so fun to play.
Oh yes! That main riff 0:46 is extremely satisfying to play!
@@zososound It's now my go to warm up riff
Yeah!! It's so fun to play!
They actually are
Something about the RTL tone will make any song sound legendary imo
Well, my preference for most Metallica songs is the Justice tone, but this still works.
72 seasons is such a great song! One of my favorites by Metallica my favorite on the new album! This sounds thrashy!
with the old tone it is possible to perceive that the album 72 seasons is the purest Metallica ever
I prefer the speedier tempo of the original, but if the creator of this well-thought idea could speed it up, i would love it!
It's a terrible, generic mess. Literally the worst song on the album by some distance.
@@DM-rc4yuthis is worse song off the album HNMMM
Its actually the worst song on the album in my eyes the rest are way better
You should take James’ vocals and use Waves Bender plug-in to make his formant higher. It’ll simulate his young voice while keeping the same pitch!
bring a oscar to this guy
That was probably tried and I'd bet not to good results
i would describe the Ride Lightening album sound as thunderous eletrifying lightning- striking guitar tone with a cold fresh breeze of danish icey snowy winter night atmosphere.
am now realizing i would actually be able to enjoy this album if they pulled out an old school tone like this
That goes for Death Magnetic and hard-wired also it's always been their s***** tone that they've chosen to use for the last how many years it's so frustrating. To much technology, deaf af, don't gaf, combo of all of that. They need to be surrounded by more people wiling to tell them the truth about thier shitty guitar tones.
Good profile picture
@@kskip4242 true
4242.. u nailed it. They lost their crunch factor. Very frustrating indeed!
Yeah fr tho. It blows my mind how much more I love they're new music with their old tone vs. Their new tone.
1:17 The main verse riff, gotta be one of my Metallica favorites!
I know right? And with this tone it sounds so incredibly amazing. Ride the lightning tone is one of the best metal tones of all times, and riffs like this (1:17) sound so good with old metal tones.
Yep and made by Kirk
@@chisholmmcbschools6967 made by recently awaken kirk :)
It reminds me of that riff in Frayed Ends of Sanity post solo. Both amazing.
This is a reminder that people only hate Metallica because they changed their tone lol
Dude I deadass got that ride the lightning vibe from this I love this!
This song already kinda had a ride the lightning flavor to it to begin with lol
@@blindfoldgang7161 that’s true but this truly puts me into the full ride the lightning immersive experience
As soon as i heard the main riff I was like that's straight from fight fire with fire.
What on earth does deadass mean
@@KarlPilkington89 it means seriously or dead serious
Cliff's hair while playing this be like: ↖️↗️↘️↙️↕️
Literally everything sounds better. Drums, solo, riffs are clean, new mixing is too muddy. Love it great job. Metallica should run a competition, the best mix of 72, wins tickets to live shows and Merch.
Crazy how much tone can make something sound so drastically better
It is exciting how with each release of Metallica the entire community does this type of experiment, what a fucking great band
the harmonies of this song with the ride the lightning tone is so fricken good
Sounds much thrashier....thanks for doing this. Excellent work.
Thank you for the kind feedback my friend 🤘
Too slow and unaggressive to be "thrashy" like lightning era. This song is more like the B sides on Hardwired.
@@UnchainedEruption This is still better than the song Hardwied.
@@UnchainedEruption At least it doesn't sounds generic to me now.
@@UnchainedEruption, they are old. It's natural for people to slow down at their age.
That bass is so accurate!
Wow, this is awesome. I'm noticing a pattern in Metallica fans saying that their newer stuff sounds better with their older tones and I wholeheartedly agree 😂
Its so good i want to cry
72 is hands down the best song on the album and I love that you kept the solos faithful unlike a lot of covers on here, thanks for the remake!
Brilliant again mate 💪
Metallica’s old sound and style is so much better than today
wrong
OK could listen to this now
CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY AND SO DID I 😍
This is outstanding! Thank you!
🤘🤘
THANK YOU FOR THIS
Thanks for this man
The whole album like this please
Awesome man !!!
Oh this is so so good
So very well done. Great job!
This is phenomenal!
Subbed 🤘
This is fire, bro!!!
I can almost listen to this now!
This tones stay AWESOME DUDE!! Great! Your job is great!!!
Thanks so much dude :)
RTL and AJFA tones are my favorites. This song sounds amazing with this tone.
Nice one. I like both & appreciate both versions, being a very seasoned Metallica fan 🔥🤘
That verse riff is fire! Also, the Chorus Riff sounds great with this RTL tone. Great atmosphere.
I love this tone so much I have strived so hard to achieve this
What a great sound!!
Fantastic!!!
I miss that old sound.
Great effort. I was just listening to the recent "live in amsterdam" show and couldn't help but notice how different their tone is nowdays when they played "blackened".
Dude this is so AWSOME, i just found your channel, please do more like this, Kill em all also, thanks a lot!
First 30 seconds kinda reminded me of War Pigs. Good stuff.
This is great! Setting the speed to 1.1x makes it more thrashy.
Nice work dude 👍😎
Sounds infinitely more badass!
Oh man i love this!!!!!❤❤❤❤
you should do another version of this with Blake Arendell on vocals. he does a scarily good young james impression
VERY WELL DONE
EXCEPTIONAL
IMPECCABLE
INCREDIBLE
EXTRAORDINARY
Awesome!🤘
hahaha man it's too good! You got the riffing of Trapped Under Ice too, love it
Awesome!!
Listen with headphones it slaps
Spectacular! 😱
God the Motu M4 sounds so damn crisp. I'm trying to get an M2 myself. Awesome work on this 🤘
I love that thing man, the preamp on it is *chef's kiss*! I use it to boost the guitars too!
Love it!!!
you did an excellent job the guitar parts are fast and precise like RTL
Super creative and amazing 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Already subscribed and can't wait to hear your next ideas, this rework sounds down to the details like a RTL track. Can't imagine what'll happen when you start reworking songs with the Load/Reload tone.
Wow!
2nd comment here. It'd be beyond amazing if they could officially release variations of this album with the exact same tones as what was used in the past. I'd buy the same album 5 times, one for each of their first 5 albums, if they did.
That VHS filter is dope
Shadows Follow with the Justice tone is also really cool
Definitely the best tonal edit, their new tone is just flat and too clean. Would love to hear these tonal remixes but the tracks are the shorter radio edits by "LGG" 🤟🎸🎶💀
Why did every metal band move on from reverb on guitar and drums? It was perfect all through out
Cool thanks
The overall vibe I get is Hardwired meets Kill 'Em All
Yeah this song sounds more like a KEA track to me
it... is... AWESOME
Dude this is fucking awesome. I couldnt put my finger on why I dont super like new Metallica but It makes sense now.
stuck in the past maybe? Its not that complicated. Recency bias is a thing but so is nostalgia bias.
@@jamieshawcross7816 actually true. A lot of people are stuck in the past and want old Metallica. They’re never going to get that.
@@jamieshawcross7816 Oh, how quaint! It seems like we have a bit of a cognitive dissonance going on here, don't we? While it's true that recency bias and nostalgia bias can influence our opinions, it's also possible for someone to have a genuine appreciation for a certain style or era of music. Perhaps it's a bit too nuanced for some to grasp, but let's not dismiss someone's preferences as being "stuck in the past." After all, it's not as though we've evolved past enjoying music that's come before us. So, while you may be content with your new-fangled tunes, some of us prefer to revel in the glory of music from a bygone era. But hey, to each their own, right?
@@frenchpet Of course man. Hey I never said nostalgia bias or "being stuck in the past" was a bad thing. Like you said, we all have our tastes, and sometimes that preference restricts our acceptance of new/different stuff.
@@frenchpet "Stuck in the past" is probably a bit too negative. I can see how you took it that way! Oh well F it, enjoy your tunes!
Maybe people do not miss "old Metallica" as a whole, maybe people miss these sounds and production (instead of the riffs, chorus, or composition in general). I am sure if Metallica produces a new album with this "old" sound or something like that, could be pretty good. New songs with this sound are just better even when they are almost the same exact song lol
Metallica should try a production that sounds "old"... why not?
I prefer the old Metallica as a whole. The riffs, the tones and production. Not a fan of the new stuff or really anything after Justice
I really really like this.. We need this song in Master and Justice tones as well...
Great job on everything, specially on the solo, it's cleaner in the mix and sound heavier
I love the album art
Wicked bro
Dude this is way better than the original
LOL.... amateur
Im so glad for all these videos
Someone please do Shadows in Puppets sound
Tone is on point, right on the nose
Please, Room of Mirrors with Master of Puppets tone
On the way for sure!
Holy shit! This is way better
Damn dude, it's barely out and you already learned all the songs. I've not even heard them all yet!
Hahaha tbh I’ve only listened to the album once so far and not very intently either cuz I been busy lately 😅 but I’ve only learned the the 4 songs I’ve uploaded so far.
I literally record as I’m learning the riffs in the same session, so that kinda cuts the process time in half. Most of the trickery and time consumed is in getting the mix to sound decent :)
Nailed it.
The sound is so important in Metallica songs. As much as I love the new songs, for some of them the "Load 'Em All" tone doesn't work. This is one of them. Thanks for the experience!
They have a lot of Load-sounding songs in the album...but more boring riffs.
At least LOAD still sounded pretty good and had mostly adult-sounding songs. While ReLoad sounded like it was them trying to sound like 17-year olds getting on the pop-punk bandwagon.
i just image Cliff playing the beginning with his fingers!!
Sounds incredible! Please do Room of mirrors! Some minor reverb on the vocals can't go wrong.
I know you’ve got about 100 requests man but if you did Iamorta in the RTL tone it would explode.
Excelent
Wow. Love this! But I also Love the new album the way it is. I'm seriously addicted to it 🔥🎧
How cool to have a lighting tone
if you could bring BLAKE ARENDELL to sing fo this it would be awesome !!
The solo part is damn beautiful in this tone
I’m not really a fan of these tone changes, but this one so perfect for ride the lightning
Super 😊
