- This is when Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wilson, and Andrew Lloyd Weber went to Japan to promote the film version of 'Phantom of the Opera.'
Gerard Butler played the Phantom which I thought was odd since the character required an older man with an excellent voice.
I am so impressed with Patrick Wilson's clear, pitch-perfect voice.
I felt my heart melt when Patrick Wilson started to sing....oh oh

I agree with some of the comments that Patrick and Emmy sang it very well together. But when Gerald sang it to her on the bridge towards the end.....there was no comparison to him. He owned that part beyond anyone. I just wish she didn't have to pull his mask off.
Gerard sang it in a way that was more like he was talking to someone he loved, with such care and tenderness.
right! AND HE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE VOCAL TRAINING

Emmy Possum has such voice like an angel and it gives me goosebumps. I liked her ever since 2004 her talent is amazing😉.

Gerard Butler does have an excellent voice--it's more on the haunting side than powerful. And Gerard is not the only young guy to ever play the Phantom (eh-hem Ramin.)

@@michaelcastanaga5839 In all honesty, though Ramin has a clearer voice and probably a better range (Gerard can go falsetto, and so can Ramin), Gerard's persona and presence, plus older-sounding voice and acting, have me personally favoring him. Of course, Michael Crawford is my all time favorite.
But he was the best looking and sexiest Phantom I've ever seen.

I LOVE Sarah Brightman and I heard Emmy Rossum before I got the chance to hear Sierra Boggess, who did an remarkably stunning job as Christine but I have to admit that IMO Emmy Owned this song.
It is so discouraging to read that someone here thinks ALW " looks creepy "; the man was born as he is, can't we just accept that ?? --As for Gerard Butler, remember it was ALW & Joel Schumacher who wanted Phantom to be tall, dark, sexy, & masculine, younger than the men who had been playing the role on B.'Way. the new phantom series is designed to pull in younger audiences by making the phantom into a young upstart cool guy but this is a 180 from the original vision which was so effective where the phantom is a cool calculating experienced and controlling fatherly figure.

Hey everyone! Andrew Lloyd Webber (the writer) chose the cast, so these people are exactly what he wanted. I thought the casting was great! Gerard is not the best singer in the world, but he has such passion and feeling in his voice. He brought me to tears often throughout the movie. Plus, he is easy on the eyes. Emmy Rossum has a great voice! I wish I could sing like she does.

Gerard Butler was simply amazing and powerful as the phantom and no one could have performed in that intense, dark and sexy way better! And Patrick was also amazing as Emmy! The whole movie is a masterpiece and an extraordinary tribute to Andrew Lloyd Weber's masterpiece!

The 3 main character's from the Phantom of the Opera are who made me fall in love w/the movie. I wish that they would have played in the 2nd movie/play.

I am so in shock. I saw The Conjuring not long ago, and I have seen a lot of Patrick Wilson recently. And today, randomly, I decided to revisit some Phantom film clips. But I just now realized after watching that the two actors are the same man... I never realized that Patrick played Raoul, or that he could sing like this... Oh, what a voice!

What's crazy about Gerard singing all his parts is that he's not a trained singer. Phantom was the first film he did when he sang his parts, but being from Scotland he has this natural kind of rock tone in his voice as he sings that he used very well in the film

Please don't try to change my opinion. He wasn't the best, but I loved him as the Phantom singing and all. If you're comparing him to the guys who play that role on stage, don't. It's not fair to group him with professional singers. Also, stage and film are two different mediums. Even you're a professional singer, you're going to have people you like and don't like. The Phantom was not a professionally trained singer in the book. He taught himself. Good and bad singing is relative and therefore everyone has their own idea of good and bad singing.

I always find it amazing how different she seems when singing this vs. her singing "slow me down" from her album. She's incredible at both styles!
It matters not what you study, either way you'll still have your favorites and those who you just don't like. Even if you're a "professional" you still listen with a biased ear, and that, in the end, will never change.

Gerard Butler may not be a "professional" singer but he has such an amazing voice and has much talent as an actor. He has so much passion and raw emotion when he sings that he evokes it within the audience. So yeah, he may not be a "professional" or an "Opera" singer but he sure did one back of a job which is why they casted him and why the movie was so good. And even though he had doubts about pulling it off he did.

Emmy had a pretty rocky start with this song, but she is a wonderful soprano. I think her voice is nice but with more proper training I feel she could be extraordinary. Patrick Wilson is flawless of course! I absolutely adore him, and he certainly did Raoul justice.

@rogerzilla thats why during the show, they have the top E prerecorded, since most singers can't handle that night after night. this is also why the stage version has an alternate christine to perform 2 of the 8 shows a week...
Emmy Rossum is a beautiful girl during the film she was only 17 now she is 22 but her voice was very matur for her age
Emmy Rossum's voice is out of this world, but, in this video, I'm actually more impressed by Patrick Wilson, especially since so few quys can sing like that!
As for Gerard Butler, he did a great job given his lack of musical background. But the Phantom is supposed to have a voice with almost supernatural proportions - I saw Hugh Panaro play the role on Broadway and the difference it made from the movie was really surprising!
