Cadillac ATS-V Coupe 6-Speed - One Take

  • We recently tested the automatic, sedan version of the ATS-V, and loved its chassis, brakes, and power. But it was missing some soul, and maybe a six-speed and two fewer doors is the answer? The Smoking Tire's Zack Klapman takes over in this review of the ATS-V Coupe.

    Finally, somebody had the balls to say that this car is better then the BMW M4! It's like car enthusiasts are afraid to say it. Great review and thanks for telling the truth. Awesome road for a performance car.

    Honestly, this one take was the best one I've seen. Sure Matt is entertaining and fun, but when it comes to these type of videos the dialog is so important and Zack held my interest the entire video. Even towards the end where usually the video falls off, he is still engaging the audience with his unique perspective. Would love to have more videos of Zack doing these and offering a real perspective. His calm and collective persona induces thought much more than Matt and really resonated well with what claims he made.

      This. Came to say this. I like Matt. I like him on /Tuned, I like TST, I usually enjoy his one takes. This was awesome though. Zack has a great way of explaining himself and the car, awesome perspectives and insight as well. And I agree, he was engaging throughout the entire video whereas Matt's jokes and commentary can sometimes stale near the end of the review. I like Matt for the same reason that I liked and miss Carlos Lago on MT.

    "The fear of the unknown is something that is very real in our DNA"
    The amount of dislikes in a video presented by not the usual dude proves it.

    • @tommy605
      @tommy605 8 років тому +7

      +She Swallowed It I suspect many of the dislikes are because he repeatedly said the car was better in every measurable way to M3/4 and C63 AMG. Brand whores don't like their fantasy challenged by reality.

    • @tommy605
      @tommy605 8 років тому +2

      Peder Hansen
      Bias comes from opinion regardless of the facts. For decades car reviewers preferred the BMW, biased towards it even, but for some reason, when a non German automaker produces a vastly superior performing car, and they say that it is, somehow they're biased. Or paid by GM. Yes, "reality" indeed.

    The Cadillac for sure got better but the M4 is also not all that great currently.

    • @vernonprice5986
      @vernonprice5986 8 років тому +18

      +slaWterCH It's not a case of the M4 not being all that great. Lieberman said the ATS-V may possibly be the best handling sedan ever made, and most reviews tend to agree along those lines. The ATS-V is one of only two sedans to break the 3 minute mark at VIR - the other one being the CTS-V.
      The point is that Cadillac is not fucking around. They're not beating BMW because BMW suddenly became terrible, they're beating BMW because they're just that good now. This is the new world order, better get used to it.

    • @TheSmokingTire
      @TheSmokingTire  8 років тому +39

      +Vernon Price GM Performance Chassis Engineers are not fucking around. The ATS-V lacks only in subjective interior categories and exhaust note, but in every other way pretty much smokes the German stuff. Better setups, better steering, faster around any track you put it on. The CTS-V (video in about 2 weeks) is the best American car I've ever driven except the Ford GT.

    • @MrSupersaiyangoku

      +TheSmokingTire Have you had a chance to drive the new CT6?

    • @MrSupersaiyangoku
      @MrSupersaiyangoku 8 років тому +1

      +TheSmokingTire It's obvious now people can not say American cars are less than their foreign competitors. Ford is giving us the new Ford GT. And the GT350 Mustang's. Genmeral Motors is giving us the corvette's(hopefully the ZR1 is coming) and the Cadillacs. It sucks to see the Viper leaving AGAIN, but the current ACR is the fastest car you can buy that is not a million dollars.

    • @MrSupersaiyangoku
      @MrSupersaiyangoku 8 років тому

      Peder Hansen You are one of those people he was referring to. Do you think an Automotive Journalist whose job is to report on cars for a LIVING those not know driving dynamics and speed alone does not sell a car? He mentioned only two areas the ATS V needs improvement. The interior fit and finish and sound department. Everything is is perfect and great. So please if you want that Mercedes then go ahead and get it. But do not make it seem like Cadillac is not the better choice for less money.

Then I got a great deal on it, so I have had most every hot car in my lifetime and i'm 66 yo. with out doubt the best handling and fastest car I have ever owned. The next best car was a 2007 Audi RS4. That was a great car too but not as fast. Who cares about the back seat no one gets to sit back there anyway. Knock wood no problems so far as with my BMW M3 and Audi RS4 that ha d erly problems and the M3 never handled close to this one.

    totally agree, american cars are no longer chasing german benchmarks they are in fact ahead now. I see ford offering tuning parts like superchargers and improved brakes from the factory for their new cars, I see GM showing no intention of dropping manual gearboxes, I see vipers beating lap records of a porsche 918, it just shows me that there's still a market for driving- as well as performance-enthusiasts. but in my opinion they can only compete with brands like bmw because german companies have stopped caring about performance much and rather go for luxury, swag and profit now. over the last 2-3 years I saw every german brand starting to build more and more aggressive looking cars with no performance to match that. many old M cars and AMGs can be considered sleepers, the new ones are the opposite they deliver artificial sounds and get owned by american cars around a track which are a lot cheaper and yet offer quality and luxury too.

    Zack is a thinker and he really digs down into things and gives it alot of thought. Hes straight forward and honest without trying to sell you something. Ive heard him break down E36 M vs IS300 and he talked about them for weeks in podcasts. If he says somethings good its good. I think on the low he knows alot more than Matt does in certain aspects on things but somethings he forgets little details. So hes often over shadowed.

      +KoNLaR That view of the canyon was enough to keep me happy. I liked it though, a nice change. As visually appealing as drifts and hard accelerations are (don't get me wrong, I love those too), it was good to have someone deliver a sophisticated review of a car with some quality info.

    Lexus and Cadillac are making the biggest splashes and performance right now those are the two brands Germany need to watch out for

  • @camryt

    While I don't really like the overall design (both of interior and exterior), the point made in the end about brand loyalty and engineering was really eye-opening, made me respect this car so much more. Shame though the only cars with engines full of character are C63 and RCF in this segment.
    Another cool review Zack, hope to see you more.

    Great review. Subscribed to watch One Takes for a while now, but this is my first comment. You need to be doing more of these. VERY articulate. Matt has his own style, and I think yours balances nicely.

    The feeling i get from all Cadillac reviews is "God what a great car, how long can i talk about how great it is before i get to the part where i admit i'd never actually buy one"

      @ceounicom 8 років тому

      +ceounicom Which is sort of the point you just made at the end of the video! yeah, the concept of Cadillac as an old-people's car has not entirely worn off in my mind, and i think it persists with a lot of people.

      "Design" in the sense of thinking about the best way to execute a functional vehicle. Aesthetically, they don't turn me on that much.

    Zack, this was a good review. You broke down Electric Steering and the gauges and why this is not a car to miss. Matt's word is strong to a lot of males but you made me even more of a fan of this car than i already was. I think i still prefer the CTS V but if i had this car i'd still be excited every nice day to go out and drive it. You should do more reviews.

    Ya know what the ATS-V needs? (aside from the underwhelming interior) Crazy colors. BMW's M cars have always had some iconic polarizing colors that just make the car pop and give them a real presence. Laguna Seca Blue, Austin Yellow, Yas Marina Blue, Imola Red. Even the Audis have some crazy yellows and blues. The ATS-V is a good looking car, but put it next to an M4 and they just don't have the same presence.
    If I were in the market I'd have such a hard time choosing between the two. On the one hand I love BMW and I'll admit I'm a fanboy, but I so want Cadillac to succeed. They've come so far since the first released the CTS.

    Wow. I was bummed out at first when I realized it wouldn't be Matt doing this review but you did a great job, man! My performance Cadillac closet obsession just got reinforced and somewhat validated. I want to test drive one of these. I can live without an Audi or BMW electronics interface if the driving experience is as good as you say.
