    Additional aspect to this lane change tip: if the AP system thinks your not holding the wheel before you start the manoeuver, even though you've indicated, the wheel will resist the lane change and the AP disengagement will be jerky. Instead, if you have your hand already on the wheel on a straight heading the moment before you start the lane change, then the disengagement is perfectly smooth. I.e AP doesn't care whether you have indicated or not, it just needs to sense your hand on the wheel before a lane change in order to make the disengagement smooth.

      Thanks bro was wondering why that was happening. Prefer to keep my AP as one pull for activation, much easier to use.

    Good tip, looking forward to your video 🎉 Just a little fact about autopilot is that autopilot is using the older software of the code and not using the one in US for Full self driving( FSD ) which uses neutral networks to drive a car better than a person without coding. When the government in Australia allows FSD then we will get updated software for autopilot and other features with autopilot. Right now there are only little updates with autopilot and more with FSD for the US and Canada

    Hi Ryan, Please add Autopilot limitations for RHD vehicles, hopefully Elon will get the brief!
    The following was observed using 2024.20.7:
    1. Braking while overtaking a standard sedan. The vehicle I overtook, was centred in its lane, no reason to brake. Unfortunately this is not a rare event.
    2. See if Tesla will provide a EAP demo for the review. If so:
    2.1 Auto lane change can abruptly change its mind when changing from the right to left lanes next to a highway exit. (Appears to get confused with the white line marking change from unbroken to dashed).
    3. Suggest you recommend:
    3.1 Single pull resume option. Simple software change based on when autopilot was last engaged or perhaps provide a user selectable control next to the Single Pull AP slider that allows TACC to be automatically enabled if AP is cancelled.
    3.2 Provide a wider berth when overtaking trucks. Current gap between Tesla and Truck is uncomfortably close.
    Thanks Ryan, we all appreciate your great EV reviews and supporting videos!!!😊

    Turn on rainbow road when on autopilot. This makes it easy to identify when the car is on autopilot. Love your videos❤

    My favorite is when on FSD if your car is not going fast enough just press the accelerator! FSD will not deactivate, the car will still turn and do everything for you it just goes a bit faster so you don’t annoy cars around you 👍🏻⭐️

    If Auto pilot does something odd or needs improvement in areas of the drive, use voice commands to provide feedback to Tesla. Say "Report", "Feedback", or "Bug report" followed by brief comments. Tesla takes a snapshot of its systems, including your current location. If everyone does this it will help accelerate the software. At lease in Australia! Until we finally get wide release beta!
    I constantly report “incorrect speed reading” as I hate being in a motorway going 80kmh and the car picks up a 50kmh side street.

    I'm yet to have my Model 3 arrive, but I'm interested to know how to transition from autopilot to stopping for traffic lights without going into full regen or lurching the brakes. Basically how to gently slow down from autopilot to an intersection for example.

    Doesn’t Autopilot change lanes for you just by signalling? Or is that just an FSD feature?

    You might consider letting the folks know about holding the gear stock down past the drive position for a couple of signs so that the car will match the speed on the road signs. This saves you from rolling the scroll wheel to bring down or bring up the speed. Regards Séamus from Dublin Ireland.

    What’s the best way to change lanes whilst maintaining speed and not phantom braking? 2024 M3P

    • @sleepy_ipl
      @sleepy_ipl 5 місяців тому

      @JonNewell to maintain speed, set your autopilot setting to "double pull" like in the video. I just tested it and verified it works.
      As for phantom braking, there is nothing you can do. This is a concern that happens to all vehicles with driver assist features. Acura, subaru, etc. Phantom braking is not a tesla only issue.

    • @RyanCowan
      @RyanCowan  5 місяців тому

      Have you got 'double press' selected in AP settings? Phantom braking should be very rare, this is likely regen braking kicking in when you disengage (which will be fixed by double press setting)

    • @JonNewell
      @JonNewell 5 місяців тому

      @@RyanCowan yes I have double press, it's not regen, I think it sees any red lights as stop lights, but I only have the stock autopilot.

    • @RyanCowan
      @RyanCowan  5 місяців тому +1

      @@JonNewell sounds odd, basic AP doesn't react to stop signs or red lights.

    • @JonNewell
      @JonNewell 5 місяців тому

      @@RyanCowan The service team told me red overhead signs can affect it, which I found strange since it’s not supposed to as you said. Last night it did it on a motorway, there were 2 reed speed signs on an overpass above, it just slammed on the brakes, lucky no-one was close behind. It seems to do it more in the early morning or late afternoon when there are shadows across the road. This must be some earlier version software running the autopilot in Australia, it surely can’t be FSD based?

    • @MySquishable
      @MySquishable 3 місяці тому

      Autopilot is the free self driving that comes with the car. It is great for the freeway, especially in traffic. FSD just has some more functionality that autopilot does not have

  • @samuel010898
    @samuel010898 2 місяці тому

    It’s just great that using autopilot effectively takes more effort than most people put into driving well. Surely lazy people won’t just dump their responsibility on a function they don’t know how to use while the people that actually care will just, you know, drive. I don’t see this causing us any problems whatsoever as it enters the mass market.

    TBH in this day and age it's crazy Tesla hasn't revised standard auto pilot functionality to auto re-engage auto pilot as soon as you cancel the indicator after completing the lane change. Our dinosaur juice eating Ford Escape has this functionality and it works a treat. No need to re-engage anything, picks up auto steer again by itself after the indicator is cancelled.

    How does this behave any differently compared to putting it in "single pull" mode?
    - edit
    Just tried this out and verified it works. Putting it in double pull mode will make the car automatically disengage autopilot while maintaining speed when you turn on the signal for a lane change.
    I was using "single pull" before and with that setting when you signal, autopilot is still activated and you have to manually disengage autopilot by moving the steering wheel hard, hit the brakes, or press up on the stalk.
