I think it's the same sentiment when OW came out. Eventually time will figure out the meta and flesh out character abilities, then we'll see if losing in Marvel Rivals is still more fun losing than OW2.
I hope they never add a role queue nor focus on nerfs. You're a superhero and it's awesome to do big powerful stupid hits on your enemies. Buffing the weaker characters up and leaving everyone to be able to play who they want would keep this games draw around for a very long time.
@@allzofeel with the addition of svp, making it abundantly clear that you were not the reason you lost feels pretty good. and its said that when you get svp in ranked mode, you wont lose rank. The amount of overwatch games ive gone 40-1 just to lose feels demoralizing but this new rivals system keeps me motivated win or lose
Honestly, I think Black Widow won't be too OP because she's more stationary in a world full of hyper-mobile characters. Like, spiderman, venom, iron fist, wolverine, etc. have crazy levels of mobility, even compared to most Overwatch characters.
Also all the destructible buildings really make her have to reposition constantly, when I see a widow peeking I would just throw projectiles to where she was destroying her cover forcing her to run around. Plus yes all the dive characters is hard for her even with her kick away.
Only MAJOR problem so far is the lack of role queue. Just like early overwatch one. Everyone just wants to go dps. So as a tank main in this game, your SUPER excited to finally have two tanks again, but it’s bitter sweet because your teamates rarely select a second tank. Also since there are soo many fun dps, people are rarely picking support either (because who wants to be loki WHEN U CAN BE FREAKING SPIDERMAN!) so teams are crumbling. And they are ultimately gonna have to sacral some of that queue time for the sake of it
@@daunted232 of course but ultimately balance will decide whether or not people will still be playing 6 months from now. the game is pretty unbalanced but like Stylosa said its currently working to its benefit. Give it a few months for the meta to settle and people will make their decision
So true. Personally, i haven't played MR yet, but it seems very fun and impossible to balance for a competitive ranked mode imo. I might play it, but for a competitive experience, i will always go back to OW.

@@hambster9759 I think a big point my friend is that the game for the average player is fun. They should not balance this game for comp they should not make this a competitive game. They have to keep the appeal of the average user. Thats what overwatch lost over the years. Right now overwatch is still filled with the players who want to win and winning is all that matters, thats why qp is getting so toxic.
@@MMmagze They shouldve increased her difficulty to 4stars because you really need to know how to combo with her. IE jump before summoning your demon and then knock up a tank for insane damage, or warp and swirl right before dashing in to maximize your burst. Animation cancels are also mandatory (primary fire --> melee) when her survivability is completely tied to her DPS. All the while dealing more damage if you manage to become point-blank. Such a good design for a melee character in a game like this. Thats the main thing Overwatch lacked: exciting melee combat. Even Doomfist and Genji ended up doing a lot of ranged attacks and they were the stars for that. All this melee combat in Marvel Rivals, and more mobility bursts tied to cooldown based abilities, just means that being Shroud himself is less important than ever. I swear to God this game is so good dude
The abilities are also hard af to read sometimes, Things are just too transparent to tell when I’m about to be nuked when I can’t hear the enemy ult over chatter Or tell who I’m guarding when the indicator is a small white icon above the name
Dude you don’t need someone to hold your hand. That’s the problem with Overwatch now they cater so much to easiness that the balancing of the game suffer as a result.
Look in the settings, there are some really convenient features to change sound and visuals to your liking. Also, games only been out for 2 days officially. A lot of this you will get used to with time. Same with overwatch and trying to figure everything out as a newbie.
A "mess of balance" is exactly what this genre needs. As long as everyone is saying that every other hero is "overpowered" (i.e., "totally broken, dude."), then what you have is a game that is normalized for fun, not some stupid "meta". The fact that every hero can stand on their own to some degree, without a hard-locked need for help, clearly shows what the developers were going for: a more nuanced game, where each player has a loose role to play, but no overriding "meta" to destroy their ability to be useful. Blizzard and all of the "professional gamers" went and meta-balanced Overwatch right into the fucking dirt. I'd hate to see that happen to this game, too.
That’s what overwatch should’ve went for every hero is strong and dominant in their own way and respective niche but you know people won’t agree with me at all
Couldn't agree more. I see people calling for nerfs already, but really, I don't think any character needs more than a very small tweak here or there to change their impact significantly. People learning how to play will change things up, too.
Some heros will be better than others, but since the game is new people havent figured it out yet hence why there is no meta. The ow2 beta didnt really have a meta aswell but as time went on people figured out which heros are better than others. At the launch of ow2 zarya oris and winton was meta, but the other tanks were still broken, just look att hog the seasons after... but since some were more op a meta formed its going to be the same here. Maybe not as counterswappy as ow2 but metas will still form.
@@for3v3xyy0ungoverwatch made one stupid commitment: no overlapping skills. Every hero has to be different, every skill unique. It's cool, but really hard to balance. In Mr, you got different kits, but many skills are the same (with different visuals/cooldowns etc OFC), ie dash, fade, wall crawling, run (for America and Luna ie) etc.
Truth is that it's not a competititon. Overwatch has been dying off since before OW2 came out, and made the death spiral worse. Rivals is such a substantial step up from OW, that it's not even funny. Any amount of competition would be the nail in the coffin for OW at this point, and it doesn't help that Rivals is so much more fun to play.
True - I stopped playing OW nearly a year before OW2 came out. I got tired of the "balancing" (e.g. nerfing) of my fave heroes to satisfy the demands of the top-tier players and OWL players.
The truth is that it’s too early to actually make a comparison…like yes they are very similar games, but the gameplay loop for rivals has not developed yet. Everybody is still trying to figure out how to play
I'm struggling to find any actual differences between OW and rivals. Sure you have different characters and abilities, but it feels like you could trade characters from one to the other and it'd still work because the games are so similar. Like it doesn't feel like it's own game, it just feels like the marvel expansion of OW
blackwidow was always a sniper and existed longgggggggg before widowmaker. Not to mention every single one of blizzards game ideas is stolen from something else to begin with
@daunted232 the comics. Her rifle is literally called the widows kiss and her gauntlets are widows bite. Even in other games she has her iconic rifle. It's MCU that just didn't adapt it for some odd reason. Widow makers story's is also 99% bw comic story as well.
People are forgetting Starcraft. This isn't even the first time Blizzard used this archetype. Before Widowmaker, there were Kerrigan and Nova (especially Nova who had similar story of being brainwashed and forced to work for the enemy).
Fun fact, you can make her fat OR naked with mods -- the choice is yours ! And people arent even getting banned for it!! But you can only install one at a time, so pick wisely!~
overwatch has it's flaws, but the way the game feels/plays is just unlike any other hero shooter, including marvel rivals. the polish is just unmatched. also, the strategic elements of overwatch are vastly superior. marvel rivals feels a lot more spammy, the abilities a lot more unbalanced and clunky, and the maps and other elements a lot more chaotic. this isn't bad if you want a more casual experience, but for me the ability to have both a casual and complex/competitive game in one is something overwatch does that no other game really accomplishes in the same way (in the hero shooter genre anyways). also, overwatch manages to have that same sort of chaotic feel rivals has, but it's done in a really cool way where there's clear order within the chaos. i'm not a big fan of where the game is going currently (we'll see with this upcoming 6v6 test), but the passion and love put into the game and characters from the beginning is still blatantly obvious when you play the game.
That’s the problem with Overwatch not comparing to rivals just basing off your statement about competitive and casual and the fact you said the abilities a lot more balanced. OW has only catered to being casual every hero that has come out has either an immortality or an auto lock as an ability and on top of that nothing dies in OW( at lesser if you play at a high level) I was high Gm specifically 2 and all you get now is the meta heroes and there’s not diversity in the game….. all they do is appeal to the CASUal audience and don’t care about the higher level players so for you to say it has a competitive element is laughable tbh because all OW is now is low level casual players. Not saying rivals is going to be a OW killer at all but if you want to talk about fun abilities and satisfying gameplay it’s not even close Rivals is way better it feels like OW1. OW2 is a completely different game than OW1. That’s why it’s azz now. The 6v6 test will be interesting but they are only doing it because of Rivals releasing and on top of that Idk how anyone has respect for OW after the lie they did about the PVE and taking away loot boxes still played but makes me resent the game tbh
@@ryleytls4950of course they are going to cater to the causal audience the majority of overwatch audience is casual the figures between how many people play quick play and competitive is worlds apart. However overwatch is still a very competitive game and many of the ‘meta’ heroes still end up being characters that need high level of skill to get the most out of. I can see why you think it’s all bad but you are obviously just being negative and disregarding the fact that overwatch is still definitely a competitive game.
you discribed ow1, now ow2 is totaly different case, its unpolished, unrewarding, lack features, terrible matchmaking system, ranking has its issues, report system doesnt work, the game is very unbalanced and clunky at times, but rivals dispite having its issues has something ow2 doesnt have and its "fun factor" you losing or winning you having fun which in ow2 you cant have fun with the constant destruction of the game.
Reminder that meta in OW2 has barely changed and the game is ass in balance. The tank roster is just a rotation of 3 to 4 same tanks. Healers are just kiriko + (Ana/Juno/Brigitte). Nothing is fun and balanced in OW2 when the team just instantly loses if your tank falls first.
It’s extremely fun so far but it’s far too early to really tell. A lot of people are jaded and so ready for an overwatch killer that they’re overhyping it. We’ll see where the game stands after metas arise, casuals drop off, and the honeymoon phase ends.
Good luck deciphering the meta when all the combo bonuses are so powerful and aligned with lore based factions instead of video game classes. We will see less casual drop off than ever with the "loveable" characters, which dont even get annoying and cheesy like you would expect a superhero game to do. Wolverine is voiced by Dempsey for fuck's sakes.
I doubt this is an Overwatch killer, but it is a great alternative if your tired of blizzard’s bullshit, there are just people who can’t separate from a game as old as Overwatch
@@AscendantStoic We are talkin about current state of these games and hero shooters market. For new players it's absolutely irrelevant that OW heroes were behind paywall 8 months ago.
I think it might be a bit too early for this question. Edit: I just mean we should give it a few months before shouting big claims. After all, we're comparing a game that came out in 2016 to one that released in 2024, not really a fair comparison, not to mention that a portion of the game is copied and pasted from other games, and I'm pretty sure the only reason it isn't facing anything in court is because it's backed up by Disney. Side note: It might not completely get to replace OW, but it sure will Paladins.
The one thing I don't like about Rivals is there is waaaay too many movement abilities. everyone is hyper mobile. Other than that, really liking it so far

black widow in the comics first appeared in 1964 or so the wiki says and as far as i know she was a sniper user before project titan let alone overwatch existed
Widowmaker is based off blackwidow as well 😂 you cannot tell me they aren't as both are sleeper agents based on the black widow lol In fact the entire ow ip is based on the avengers... so I mean... they kinda got the right to copy back.

@@shawngorski9714yah but black widow main gun was never a sniper. She always used pistols. Atleast in the movies. The sniper is definitely an excuse to be a widow maker.
Short answer yes in it's own ways Just because they're 2 team based hero shooters doesn't mean they're copying or one is better because both are unique. Does it matter if the company promises loads of exciting new features that everybody wants but then takes them all away and ultimately just re-releases their old game with new maps so that their dedicated playerbase has to buy all their skins again? Tell me that doesnt matter because the OW1 addicts are still "having fun" in OW2
One thing I hope for this game the most I hope it doesn't end up like other live service games where it peaks at its launch but then it just dies slowly I sure hope we can keep its player base cuz I personally really love this game after playing it
It's pretty fun, though honestly I kinda hope that Rivals also tries to do a PvE campaign because it would work pretty well and they have lots of lore to pick from. Meanwhile you got OW which is constantly showing favouritism to the same heroes over and over, feels great huh...
Youre right about the only thing that can kill overwatch being overwatch. But for me, overwatch died years ago. I was never a particular fan of anything in overwatch other than the competitive nature of the game, and genji is pretty cool. Im also not a particularly big fan of marvel either, but hell i love spiderman infinitely more than fuckin junkrat. Only thing the game really struggles with so far is janky geometry, especially with the very mobile heroes like spidey, iron fist or venom. Once they smooth out the collisions and once i upgrade my gpu (fuck ue5) there is absolutely 0 reason i would ever install overwatch again
@@simonshura9144 to each their own. A lot of "Overwatch" players complained about the game being first person saying whats the point of skins if you can't see them. Now Marvel is third person. 0:30 does he really think Black Widow was copied from Widowmaker? Just because they both have “widow” in their name doesn’t mean it’s copied. I don’t think this dude’s done his research. In his head, a character from 1964 was copied from a game from 2016. If you ask me, he might think that all the heroes from Marvel Rivals are new characters. Which is just wrong. The game is loved immediately because it has the heroes we all know and love. Whereas Overwatch was original. It was all new. That was its charm. I don’t really think you can compare the two. I think he’s just bitter because Overwatch has true competition now.
The biggest problem for me with Rivals is something I can't even explain. Idk if it's the art style, the fact that it's third person or the pace, but I tend to get lost, it just feels like too much is happening on my screen, it feels chaotic and at some point I get so overwhelmed that I can't even aim properly. And before anyone starts commenting "skill issue" I have to say that I mainly play shooters so idk
I feel like this game is way more fun than Overwatch right now, but its way too early to make any long term judgements about the game. Even small changes to how the game plays could violently throw the opinion on it. It's not at any sort of stable point. That being said, if it remains at the same level of enjoyment as it is now, I believe its better than Overwatch 2.
I don’t remember the last time I had the same amount of fun with Overwatch as I did with Rivals. Plus, the lore is genuinely interesting and makes me want more of it. What else can I say? Oh, right. IT’S MAHVEL, BABY!
@@Loner_Kun It's not a terrible criticism to make, because OW could do a lot more, although it does have solid lore anyway, they just could actually progress the story. I do agree the idea does need to be taken with a grain of salt, I'm sure in 60 years of comics, they could a lot more with OW
Man, Sty, you grew so much throughout the years, good to see you still doing content! In hopes that every character being OP in one way or another will be what ultimate keeps it balanced.
@ rivals isn’t really trying to be balanced towards casuals and competitive at least not yet . It’s all about having fun . Just like overwatch at its beginning.
i do worry a lot about the monetization, because having one main currency that you have to then change into another currency to purchase stuff is a classic tactic to create a conversion wall, right now the conversion between the premium and unit currency is 1:1 but what will happen when they introduce something new and the exchange varies? another thing i kinda dislike about the game is how... lonely? it can feel when compared to ow? like there's no voice lines, all the sprays are basically advertisements for movies or they are just concept art, and the few emotes the game has are not really interactable? is like if every emote was a hero emote, so there's no real way to interact or fidget with other people the way you do in ow, it sounds dumb but the community and little interactions like that is what makes ow what it is, it's very unserious
Overwatch is always going to be special. It's one of those games that is timesless; Also ten year anniversary in 2026?! Crazy how time flies... ❤ All good though, we've made and will continue making amazing memories in OW 😊

What I like about the game so far is that while counter picking is effective, it won’t completely shut down the effectiveness of the person. Everyone in this game can essentially counter the other without you having to switch in order to deal with them. Now that is most likely going to change as people learn their favorites but it can also stay the same if people learn how their favorites can deal with the other heroes on the roster.
Marvel Rivals are not even close to OW2 - trashy mobile graphics, third person view,, not balanced, even messier than overwatch. I haven't seen any skins accesories, maps don't even look like these places, like Asgard etc.

I think the game will land on a pretty solid playerbase but the biggest problems rivals will face is the inevitable shitfest of balancing depending on whether or not the devs will lean more towards the competitive side of the game or the whacky lore accurate side.
My first impressions is it is a slower game than OW2 and everything feels like it takes longer than OW2, but it is a good game and is well made. At launch it is pretty impressive what they pulled off, I will probably play it from time to time, right now they still need lots of adjustments to really get to a good spot.
@@RILOVINCO It is not a bad game but if you play OW2 you would know that it is just a quicker and smoother game for now. Not saying it is a better or worse game, but in general Rivals still needs some optimizations to really shine, and it will likely get there really soon.

I prefer Overwatch, but Rivals is still fun. It's unbalanced as all hell and janky as heck but provides some chaotic fun as an alternative. How they decide to fine-tune the game in the future will determine if I keep playing. Nothing beats OW's sound design, physics, animations, and overall polish.
What do yu mean by unbalanced..? Do yu mean characters are strong all characters should be strong buff the weak ones make all charcters strong unlike overwatch where yu can only play certain character overwise yu get shat on or flamed by your team
Personally, I found Marvel Rivals a bit unsatisfying to play. From the little I played, weapons and abilities didn't have much feedback. It felt like I was playing Fortnite. Weapons would make a tinny ping ping ping noise.
The prices being as high as they are for skins is very acceptable. They didnt kill an already loved game and slap a 2 on the title while removing a bunch of neccassary features. Its a new f2p game with every character being free for everyone. Some skins are still possible to get without spending anything at all which is great. I do kinda wish it had the lootboxes overwatch had at launch to get skins sprays etc.
20e skins are in no way acceptable. A full game is 30-60e, how should 2-3 skins be worth a full game? I hate how everyone just accepted this at some point. A skin should be 1-3e max. At max.
The cope in the comments is unreal. This game already is leagues better than OW2 I've had more fun playing Spider-Man for the last 4 hours then I've had on Genji, Soldier, Reaper, Reinhard and Winston combined in the last 4 years. The heroes are so much funner to play and better designed gameplay wise than OverWatch It's not even funny how far the Gap is.
Eh I think your coping here respectfully. The game JUST came out, so to make such a confident claim just isn't right. I was lucky enough to play marvel rivals almost a year ago with a very closed playtest. It's fun but I still went back to overwatch, they feel different enough to co-exist Spiderman is my main, he's fun but not that crazy fun.
You're playing a party game. No matchmaking, no established counterpicks or even a META at all. A freeform game IS more fun but I feel like I'd have to see how it develops to be able to know for certain whether it'll make a dent in the genre.
It's fun and really like it more than Overwatch right now but I don't think there is a quality gap, I think we are just burned out and jaded from Overwatch. I feel like Overwatch is more focused and structured as a comp game, with way more depth while this game is more chaotic/random and casual.

I want to see what else they come up with, I'm looking forward to the future of this game. I think it will live past the honeymoon phase and find it's own corner of the internet of massive fans.
it's funny to see overwatch players w/ rivals going through the same thing tf2 players went through w/ OW from 2015-2016. a playerbase frustrated after years of mismanagement from the devs seeing a shiny new game that takes heavy inspiration from the older one. a lot of the playerbase will switch, some will play both, you'll have your diehards that will never touch it, but at the end of the day the newer game will be the one that thrives long term since it'll have a much easier time onboarding new players. overwatch, like tf2, won't die but over time it will have a playerbase increasingly comprised of aging core players that just can't leave the game behind
Idk. TF2 didnt literally promise the moon and then deliver next to nothing before og OW came out. This is different. Im pretty sure this game is legitimately better, and released right after OW2 took a fat piss all over its playerbase. But we'll see.
@pinnacleexpress420 tf2 did actually have really anticipated promises like the in-game competitive matchmaking update, but valve cocked it up in almost every conceivable way and imploded the casual matchmaker for over a year in the process
Been playing it a bit. I gave up on OW back in 18, and zero interest in going back, there are other hero shooters I have more fun with (the Garden Warfare games, Paladins, and TF2 to name a few). I do worry about the monetization here, but so far it's been decent, and it is fun. Like you, I'm not that into Marvel, but this has huge potential.
@@FrostArchon Same goes for Overwatch, yet that game gets a bunch of hate. idk where you stand but fuckers love to pick and choose what to praise and what to hate when these games do the exact same thing
One thing that's interesting for this being an existing IP is everyone has at least some level of familiarity with the characters even without being a marvel fan. Even before the MCU everybody knew who Spider-Man was so there's an instant connection to the game. You don't have to explain what some of these characters can do because people will have an idea based on their understanding of the franchise
I give Overwatch 2 a year before Marvel Rivals overtakes it. Rivals won't kill Overwatch in a couple months, but after a full year with characters like Deadpool, Doom or Ghost Rider being added, and big collabs with games like Fortnite will definitely pull attention away from Overwatch 2 if they don't shake things up. OW only dies if they don't change something up in the next 12 months
ooh yes! Ghost Rider - his "ultimate" involves a large motorcycle with flaming wheels? Sold. How about Silver Surfer, the Fantasic Four (a four way teamup?). So much to choose from!
I wanted to know what's it like. If it's better than overwatch or if it's overhyped. To be honest, I still enjoy playing overwatch, but I tried this. Downloaded this today and played for ~4hours. I must say the game felt fun, ofc new, at moments very satisfying. BUT, the artstyle and characters just do not do it for me, I still prefer overwatch. I might play this when I am bored with ow, finished BP, don't feel like grinding ranked, but will this replace ow for me? 100% no. I enjoy 5v5, I enjoyed 6v6 and will 100% grind the ow 6v6 tests, and I might play Marvel Rivals here and there, but I still prefer OW. Maybe the big part for me is that I simply do not give a shit about Marvel anymore. But yeah, it's a personal preference. Try it, play it, it's free, then decide. For me, I am sticking to OW with occasional Marvel Rivals thrown in.
I think its good. I only played for about 2hrs. Won games, lost games. Its too early to say its balanced, but the damage output is high and the health pools are higher than overwatch and I think its fine at least right now. I'd much rather have this than what Overwatch is where people never die and fights take 3 minutes. Games end pretty fast and games are found pretty fast. Its really fun right now and I think it should stay this way. Game won't kill Overwatch of course too many people love it this will just be a good competitor until Overwatch starts to kill itself and people run to this. On the Battle Pass part, a very obscure game called Super Animal Royale, also does passes really well. You can buy any of the previous passes any time you want, and you can also work on finishing a second pass while you do the first one. Meaning you can do 2 passes at the same time, and theres no time limit.
Listen , as much as we get annoyed and irritated by OW , there is nothing like it. The creativity in character design is insane. They dropped the lore but that made it even better. But even if you are a die hard OW fanboy , you can’t deny this game is fun. I was expecting to play it and just be like ehhh it’s not OW. And it’s not , but it’s fun in its own way and I think going to get better as the game goes. Competitively idk, but the fun factor is up there.
I've played OW since the orginal beta. I was also really into OWL. But Marvel has so much going for it that overwatch failed at. I mean 33 heroes at launch compared to 42 after years...$10,000 tournaments during beta with old overwatch casters. Overwatch has lost my interest again and again. They have never learned their lesson. Rivals is doing things right out the gate...
Nah Overwatch is a dog**** game, the balancing is off the charts, hero design is garbage, and the cosmetics are way overpriced. OW2 would be fun if Genji, Moira, Roadhog, Hanzo, Junkrat, and DVa were never added to the game. Some of these heroes were "OK" in OW1, but it's a complete dumpster fire in OW2.
Yeah that's sort of the problem with all competitive hero. Shooters eventually everyone gets too good at them I mean there's a reason we don't have an 8-second genji ultimate anymore. It's because people are too good at it and that's too much. The same thing will happen to just about every competitive game at some point in its lifetime. Before it was OverWatch it was TF2
Rivals is better than everything Overwatch has put out in YEARS. OG Overwatch was fun and deserves respect but OW2 is a fucking joke. Rivals clears both in my opinion.
Nothing like overwatch every character is strong an can be played.. Destructible buildings.. Flying characters high speed characters like spiderman... Overwatch is ass an copied paladins
The pros and cons after playing it for 3 days. Pros: -Definitely the art style is the goat aspect of this game. -Every character looks and feels interesting and unique. It motivates you to try every single one. -Really stable matchmaking and crossplay. -The Ultimates keep the same porcentage between rounds in the same match. -6v6 pvp. That's just always right. Cons: -Now this is just me. But i think it doesn't have a great level design. Especially when the maps start changing mid game. -A lot of abilities and chemistry is great, but it gets a little bit confusing in how to counter some characters. But maybe with more time and practice you can get used to it. -The Ui design is not bad, but it kinda feels like an Android game. -Scarlet Witch's ultimate -For a game that doesn't look graphically demanding, it's really demanding. Overall, really awesome game with a lot of fun aspects that'll keep you playing for hours and not get tired. But is not the Overwatch Killer that everyone thought it would be. In the end is another fun hero shooter that is here to stay.
If "kill" isn't the right word, then I think it's fair to say that if 6v6 doesn't work out, OW2 won't be able to compete with Rivals. Yes they are different games, but there's a lot more fun to be had in Rivals than 5v5 OW2.
First person camera would be better, needs balancing, role queue will need to become a thing because running around with 1 tank 4 dps and maybe 1 healer is rough especially when the other team is 2 tanks, 2 dps, 2 healers. But yeah, the camera being third person really throws playing the game off for me. My character being on the screen and then trying to juggle 9-11 other characters all going in different directions gets overwhelming. I think the only reason I find the game fun is because it's similar to overwatch, and it's a new Overwatch-like game. Blizzard has failed to make their game fun and rewarding, with MR it seems like they are going with the Overwatch 2 approach when it comes to monetization. It's showing its true colors right from the beginning rather than completely changing how they monetize and alienating their playerbase. We'll see how the game does after a few months.
It's been a nice change of pace from Overwatch. Even though I do still prefer Overwatch overall, I hope Marvel Rivals will stay as a popular alternative so Overwatch actually has some competition.
@JStorkey6 no OverWatch is Paladin's clone. Paladins been out longer than OverWatch. You probably agree that Widowmaker been out longer than Black Widow then you don't know your Marvel universe
Stylosa, speaking of the golden days of early OW I remember how hyped you were for the future of the game when Ana came out and she was so freaking good design wise (maybe not balance wise? lol) and you were saying something like 'if this is the first character we got and the rest of the characters are of similar quality then this is going to be great' and it doesn't really feel like any of them were AS good which is bad considering she was the first. Did any of the new characters live up to the hype?
Losing a game in Marvel Rivals is more fun than winning a game in Overwatch 2
This right here! And thats why I think it has some staying power

Honestly, I think Black Widow won't be too OP because she's more stationary in a world full of hyper-mobile characters. Like, spiderman, venom, iron fist, wolverine, etc. have crazy levels of mobility, even compared to most Overwatch characters.
Yeah tried widow once and got dove a million times by a venom

@@dawnggg use her E to kick venom and run to the nearest DPS or tank in your area they instinctively attack the venom if he chase you
Exactly. Ha! I bet the overwatch devs can't do that
Also all the destructible buildings really make her have to reposition constantly, when I see a widow peeking I would just throw projectiles to where she was destroying her cover forcing her to run around. Plus yes all the dive characters is hard for her even with her kick away.
This game really made me realise that my favourite thing about Overwatch is the art style. The gameplay is fun, but I get so lost in the visuals

It’s the honeymoon phase.
A month we’ll have “the problem with rivals” videos
Only MAJOR problem so far is the lack of role queue. Just like early overwatch one. Everyone just wants to go dps. So as a tank main in this game, your SUPER excited to finally have two tanks again, but it’s bitter sweet because your teamates rarely select a second tank. Also since there are soo many fun dps, people are rarely picking support either (because who wants to be loki WHEN U CAN BE FREAKING SPIDERMAN!) so teams are crumbling.
And they are ultimately gonna have to sacral some of that queue time for the sake of it

I’ve been playing Marvel Rivals all day and I do have to say it is pretty fun, Loki and Magik are my personal favourites so far
I like magic but after playing a character like spiderman for 5 hours she seems slow😂 i got a sking for her because i like her so much
@@MMmagze They shouldve increased her difficulty to 4stars because you really need to know how to combo with her.
I think they need to do a bit of cleanup in regards to increasing the clarity of each individual ability. It's just total pixel-overload sometimes.

Agreed though it will get better the more everyone plays
Yeah I'm 99% sure this is a new player issue.
Dude you don’t need someone to hold your hand. That’s the problem with Overwatch now they cater so much to easiness that the balancing of the game suffer as a result.
Yeah too much visual clutter
@@EdNorthcottexactly and then metas will form!!!
How is it a substantial step up? The games feel identical to me, just one is third person.

Also....Winston and Soldier 76 are literally (cough cough)

People are forgetting Starcraft. This isn't even the first time Blizzard used this archetype. Before Widowmaker, there were Kerrigan and Nova (especially Nova who had similar story of being brainwashed and forced to work for the enemy).

overwatch has it's flaws, but the way the game feels/plays is just unlike any other hero shooter, including marvel rivals. the polish is just unmatched. also, the strategic elements of overwatch are vastly superior. marvel rivals feels a lot more spammy, the abilities a lot more unbalanced and clunky, and the maps and other elements a lot more chaotic. this isn't bad if you want a more casual experience, but for me the ability to have both a casual and complex/competitive game in one is something overwatch does that no other game really accomplishes in the same way (in the hero shooter genre anyways). also, overwatch manages to have that same sort of chaotic feel rivals has, but it's done in a really cool way where there's clear order within the chaos. i'm not a big fan of where the game is going currently (we'll see with this upcoming 6v6 test), but the passion and love put into the game and characters from the beginning is still blatantly obvious when you play the game.
I can see why you think it’s all bad but you are obviously just being negative and disregarding the fact that overwatch is still definitely a competitive game.
@@ryleytls4950i agree with this honestly there is a reason OW player number have been on decline.
you discribed ow1, now ow2 is totaly different case, its unpolished, unrewarding, lack features, terrible matchmaking system, ranking has its issues, report system doesnt work, the game is very unbalanced and clunky at times, but rivals dispite having its issues has something ow2 doesnt have and its "fun factor" you losing or winning you having fun which in ow2 you cant have fun with the constant destruction of the game.
18:00 I think you meant to say black widow in marvel came way before Widowmaker in overwatch
but if you work at blizzard you probably think otherwise
yeah this part made me confused...I was like wtf???

Wait did you actually just say Overwatch was the first game to have health packs? Lol
Well they have the iconic characters, they have such unique abilities it’s hard to fully compare a character to a OW one, and they have skins, I feel like we actually have a contender for once!
Im loving this new game, but we need a Group Finder, so we can find teams who want to use mic and work together. If they add group finder, this game will go FAR.
Yea the sniper is extremely good, but I like playing as Scarlet Witch.
What like Overwatch did and was hardly ever used
@@ShadowGirl- official discord server is that.
@@mattey456 back before OW2 TONS of players used the Group Finder every day/night, there were tons of social groups and friendships formed because of group finder. From people wanting to try hard, to just wanting to socialize and have fun. Im mainly talking about quickplay through so if you only did ranked you probably missed out on a lot of fun.
@@TheBossManBoss319 Except it filled up in less then a day to 500k player cap, and theres far more players then that playing the game. People cannot get into the discord now. Also nobody wants to go to a third party thing to form a group, it needs to be seemlessly in game for it to work great like it did in OW for bringing people together.
@ I mean… I wouldn’t use Overwatch as a “works great” mark. Blizzard themselves said no one used it, and they hate admitting they’re wrong.
Everyone keeps talking about it’s just a phase. As someone who has played OW since 2016 this game is way more fun even when I lose in ranked. They’ve made OW so stale and didn’t follow through with any of their promises. Also, the community is one of the worst
Rivals is less balanced at this point, but i think the core is better.
just came out so yeah lol it wont be very balanced
Over watch was also less balanced and how many years did it take to be balanced. Hm some people will say it’s still not balance .
@@rainbow_af3171literally NO game is balanced. So simply saying it’s “unbalanced” is just a dumb blanket statement.
Sure overwatch has some hiccups and characters concepts that are bad but it genuinely tries and does fairly well at balancing top down.
Rivals goes out of its way to be purposely unbalanced. In hopes that every character being OP in one way or another will be what ultimate keeps it balanced.
@ rivals isn’t really trying to be balanced towards casuals and competitive at least not yet . It’s all about having fun . Just like overwatch at its beginning.
@ which means it’s balanced towards casuals
i do worry a lot about the monetization, because having one main currency that you have to then change into another currency to purchase stuff is a classic tactic to create a conversion wall, right now the conversion between the premium and unit currency is 1:1 but what will happen when they introduce something new and the exchange varies?
another thing i kinda dislike about the game is how... lonely? it can feel when compared to ow? like there's no voice lines, all the sprays are basically advertisements for movies or they are just concept art, and the few emotes the game has are not really interactable? is like if every emote was a hero emote, so there's no real way to interact or fidget with other people the way you do in ow, it sounds dumb but the community and little interactions like that is what makes ow what it is, it's very unserious
There’s actually more voice lines that aren’t enabled by default if you go in the settings
@@evilblackman4219 i meant like actual voice lines that you can purchase for the character and equip them, not the regular comm wheel
It's a whole lot of fun, and I'll keep playing it. But it's definitely not a replacement for overwatch, nor do I think I will ever prefer it.
Overwatch is always going to be special. It's one of those games that is timesless; Also ten year anniversary in 2026?! Crazy how time flies... ❤ All good though, we've made and will continue making amazing memories in OW 😊
@ihavenoidea1304 To each their own but truthfully I still play everyday and it's fantastic in my opinion. I tried Overwatch classic and realized how unpolished it was back then. In the end, just play what makes you happy! 😊

I agree, like 80% of OW criticism online is pure inconsistent nonsense. Not that the game is perfect, a game like that can never be perfect. But, for instance, calling it a “cashgrab” - what does that even mean? Everything you need to play the game is 100% free.
Idk, as a support main, I don't think I can go back to the boring ass healers of Overwatch 2 after playing Rivals

@@timothytbh486 this game is not the overwatch killer for now, but What it needs to do is focus on its own thing and stop being related to overwatch like so many other games in the past.
Marvel characters are simply more interesting, more fun, more recognizable, just better in every way

Question: is it better?
Answer: Yes!
Nuance: it's not a same game, Rivals is more like a Smite, rather Overwatch.
Marvel Rivals are not even close to OW2 - trashy mobile graphics, third person view,, not balanced, even messier than overwatch. I haven't seen any skins accesories, maps don't even look like these places, like Asgard etc.
Seeing blizzdrones cope in the wild is always fascinating
@@hardboiled2987 You are the one coping. You can't acknowledge that rivals is really not that good. Only thing why everyone is now defending and supporting it, is because everyone is mad at blizzard not making overwatch pve.
overwatch 2 is the only game i basically now. Didnt even get black ops 6 and ive had every cod since like 2005.
you forgot to mention 1 core thing from the monetization part , in Rivals you pay 18 dollars for a skin BUNDLE you get everything that links to that skin for 16-18 dollars that being , emote , spray ,skin, highlight intro and a profile banner all for 16-18 dollars . if this was overwatch however you pay 20 dollars for a skin and that includes .... the skin .......
20 bucks for a skin is atrocious, a full game is 30-60 bucks. A skin should be 1-2 bucks max. But idiots pay and the price stays idiotic to match.
@@emergencita9472 you dont have to buy the skins in order to play the game , wherein you do have to spend the 30-60 bucks in order to even play a full game so .
I think you downloaded a different game than everyone else bro
@@RILOVINCO It is not a bad game but if you play OW2 you would know that it is just a quicker and smoother game for now. Not saying it is a better or worse game, but in general Rivals still needs some optimizations to really shine, and it will likely get there really soon.
Play spiderman then tell me. Its slow haha
@@magicplacebo2143 No need to defend your game to me. I am still playing it, but yes, in general it just does not feel as smooth or as fast as OW2 atm. It just launched though, it will become more refined with time and it will force other games to get better too. Win win for everyone.
Op word does not exist in the Marvel universe, which is what makes Overwatch so terrible. Definately overwatch killer
Definately
Definately
My favorite thing about rivals is that they use every aspect of a character to make them unique-melees, jumps, right clicks, etc.
Personally, I found Marvel Rivals a bit unsatisfying to play. From the little I played, weapons and abilities didn't have much feedback. It felt like I was playing Fortnite. Weapons would make a tinny ping ping ping noise.
@@daunted232 you can turn it up in the settings. I found the master volume was two loud and the abilities were kind of low
Thats funny thats how o felt when playing overwatch compared to this not to mention the heros in this game really feel diffent compared to OW
Loot boxes aren't allowed because of gambling laws
Stop being ignorant
20e skins are in no way acceptable. A full game is 30-60e, how should 2-3 skins be worth a full game? I hate how everyone just accepted this at some point. A skin should be 1-3e max. At max.
Some things are better the way they are, there is Beauty in imperfection and differences. We just got need to embrace it and roll with it 💙
Okay Jayce
@FenrirLupo lmoa 😂
It's fun but I still went back to overwatch, they feel different enough to co-exist
Spiderman is my main, he's fun but not that crazy fun.
@@lilwintery6434OW2 is for casuals i was high GM and every hero they release in OW2 is for casuals all the abilities are casual so to say its a comp focused game is crazy OW1 was.. not OW2 its a completely different game
Rivals is probably the worst optimized game I’ve played ever honestly if it get optimized it would be better
There is something satisfying about playing a melee character in a hero shooter, i haven't seen it done to this extent and i truly truly truly love the playstyle of melee.
The core game is free. All monetization are cosmetics. You don't need to spend a dime if you don't want to.
@@FrostArchon Same goes for Overwatch, yet that game gets a bunch of hate. idk where you stand but fuckers love to pick and choose what to praise and what to hate when these games do the exact same thing
It won't kill OW and Rivals Will settle after a month. The Same problems with rivals are what OW had and it'll just repeat probably
Well, if Rivals don't get a healer character who will break the game and initiate a slow descent to hell...it will be a good sign 😂
Downloading. My Overwatch 2 playing days may be over.
@rolytnz Fantastic 4 with The Thing as a tank would be perfect
Johnny Storm and Iron Man team ups would be great too
I wanted to know what's it like.

Prices are about the same as they are in other games for skins but you can earn them free here i've heard.

Gigantous cope lmao
Dropped Overwatch Years ago. Was the best decision I ever made. Smurfs, Throwers, SR that made 0 sense, I don’t miss it whatsoever.
Ow1 was probably better than marvel rivals but ow2 hell no not even close
Yeah that's sort of the problem with all competitive hero. Shooters eventually everyone gets too good at them I mean there's a reason we don't have an 8-second genji ultimate anymore. It's because people are too good at it and that's too much. The same thing will happen to just about every competitive game at some point in its lifetime. Before it was OverWatch it was TF2
Rivals is better than everything Overwatch has put out in YEARS. OG Overwatch was fun and deserves respect but OW2 is a fucking joke. Rivals clears both in my opinion.

@ how is it overwatch 2.5? Please explain
Nothing like overwatch every character is strong an can be played.. Destructible buildings.. Flying characters high speed characters like spiderman... Overwatch is ass an copied paladins
Rival is fun but i don't feel any attachment yet for the game. Overwatch's base game still better.
The pros and cons after playing it for 3 days.
Pros:
-Definitely the art style is the goat aspect of this game.
-Every character looks and feels interesting and unique. It motivates you to try every single one.
-Really stable matchmaking and crossplay.
-The Ultimates keep the same porcentage between rounds in the same match.
-6v6 pvp. That's just always right.
Cons:
-Now this is just me.
-Scarlet Witch's ultimate
-For a game that doesn't look graphically demanding, it's really demanding.
The moment he realized he can finnaly transition his channel to something else similar and get away from trash watch
My super crazy gamer girlfriend(has two games under her belt) hated overwatch and couldn’t get into it, but she loved this game
Black widow first showed up as a concept in 1964. Widowmaker doesn’t come first

It's been a nice change of pace from Overwatch. Even though I do still prefer Overwatch overall, I hope Marvel Rivals will stay as a popular alternative so Overwatch actually has some competition.

Paladins is literally an Overwatch clone? Lmao
@@JStorkey6 and Overwatch was a TF2 clone, point being is that the game feels a lot more like paladins than Overwatch
