Paul The Trombonist How often should i do this? ( i am writing about slide )
I don’t even need a slide lock
if I let go of my slide it just stays in place
same here. :D
Same lol
That might be a sign your slide is damaged
Or just need a lot of cream
Lol
遮打革命萬歲 it was obviously a joke lol
“You don’t want to put too much” - definitely true. ALL the excess gets blown out the water valve. Think of how much longer it lasts by using just enough. Takes a few times to figure out how much that is, but once you do, save your money and don’t use too much! I like slide o mix because it doesn’t seem to build up as much gunk as the creams
It's true - a really smooth fast feeling slide does allow me to play better. More confidently! I use Slide-O-Mix too. Love the stuff.
if you dont anything about trombones (my case), this video is gold. The furniture (the plant, the gree/white cord, the space...), clothes, expressions, the disdain, all aimed into the "slide" of the trombone. Paul, you are an artist.
Paul you are an amazing trombonist , I'm glad your channel exists !I was already motivated to become a great jazz trombonist but after watching your videos , you have opened my eyes to the endless possibilities that the instrument possesses! Keep up the good work :)
wow i am very flattered. thanks so much for your nice words, they mean a lot to me. Warm regards
I look forward to your new videos , and , this is a long shot , maybe one day perform with you. Obviously I am not a bill watrous, but I am working on being one of the best . Thank you again for all of your hard work :)
Raul Ontiveros that would be great, stay in touch!
I think this is a good vid, Paul. The only things I might add especially for the less experienced trombonist, is that it can really pay to have a good repair tech work out any dents or bends in your slide if it isn't really smooth, and also if you might go a few days without playing, your slide might be a little smoother cleaning and lubing it before you pay rather than after. Love your work!
Thanks again Paul. Enjoyed your youtube videos. Look forward to more and heading right now to your website.
+1 for Yamaha slide lube
I agree, but with the caveat: All bones are different, and the players are too; therefore, no "one size fits all." What works for me [Yamaha] might not work for the next guy.
I have Yamaha slide lube!
@@wurf6104 Yamisnot. :-)
I totally agree with having a good slide makes you a better player. My slide has been a bit dry and it makes it pretty difficult playing certain tunes.
I like the method of slide cleaning described. I was not aware of Slide O Mix cleaning rods. I will check them out. Great Job on the video.
Thanks. I appreciate the information. Very helpful
Good information. Thanks
BTW... loved the outer tube cleaning. You really worked on it until it was hot and clean! I think I will get me one too.
1.47 and 3.48 - nice lady relaxing on that green sofa :)
I picked up my trombone, after 20 years of not playing it, after I had the slide professionally cleaned. Made ALL the difference! I LOVE playing my trombone now!
Yes man! A slide that is slippery and smooth is fun to play!!!
Slide-O-Mix is incredible, and I use the two bottle set, but I noticed that you didn't spray water onto your slide. Isn't that what your meant to do, because the water beads up when you spray it and then the slide runs on the water? Again, it may be a difference between the two in one bottle. Good video though, it's great to see people giving Slide-O-Mix attention, because it is an insanely useful product, and also demonstrating how to use it, because I've seen very little of videos like this on youtube. Thanks!
Where can you get the Cleaning rod?
Where can i get this slide cleaning rod?
thanks Paul, what mp are you using
Thank you man for share your knowledge.... I'm from Santiago -Chile 👍👍👍
Hey thanks for stopping by! warm regards
I've used slide-o-mix forever, but I found it was more of a hassle for me than it was useful. I have found that Yamaha slide lubricant is far more effective and easier to clean off my slide. I am interested in the slide-o-mix cleaning rod though
I can't find the cleaning rod advertised anywhere.
Take care of it
Surprisingly a lot of my band classmates have lots of dents and there slides are the tiniest bit bent and it slows down at a certain position
bonjour Paul : une petite question please . What is that kind of black bandeau on your trombone ? I HAVE NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE ! Merci beaucoup .
Paul you are the only one that can make me LOL while you teach how to lube a slide LOL!
The idea that you play better with a better slide is so true!
But---- remember that a LITTLE is better! [Because too much cream makes for more friction and slows down the movement and makes it seem like the slide is heavier.]
are you using a particular type of wash cloth on your slide? if so, is it machine washable?
Hey Paul, I noticed in this and couple of your other videos you have had a zoom on the table. Have you changed to doing all your videos with this? If so, why?
thanks fam!
I'm struggling Paul I've lost one more tooth front bottom that was supporting the mouthpiece, I've lost tone quality, still working on embouchure ( obviously) , god it's hard work , the only thing I can think if doing is keep playing , I wonder if buzzing with the mouthpiece will strengthen my embouchure ? Very frustrated horn player here 😒
Have you tried the car product SLICK 50 that saves engines using teflon lubrication?
what if we dont have an outer slide cleaner
i smothered my whole trombone in slide o mix
Mine I can go pass 4th but when I get to third it stops and won't go back
I dont have the long brush thing can someone recommend some alternative thing
Gidz Tpet just buy it
I've used superslick and water for years and as long as you wipe the excess lube off after you're done working it into the slide then you can reproduce the same results as what Paul is doing here. I don't know about Slide-o-mix but regular slide oil can damage your slide over time.
Wait how
Do you recommend the original slide-o-mix (2 red capped bottles) or the 2-in-1 (black cap)? I've used both, currently the 2-in-1, but I'm still not sure which I prefer. I've also used Trombotine but I'm not a huge fan of slide creams...
Natalie Saralou I use two in one
I am a constant anal experimenter with my slides, and I have learned in 60 some years that it depends on the particular slide and the player. Currently, I am using SOM with a "touch" of REKA on top. When I use an old, worn slide, I need to use a heavier cream like Trombotine or Yamaha (in the toothpaste tube) with a dot of silicone perhaps.
Paul my man! I just tried your trick. My slide feels like the day I first bought it!
A few questions though:
1. I like to use a spray bottle after the oil. Is that okay to do with this method?
2. I am noticing some more frequent slide noise when I move the slide. How do I fix that?
Vincent Basile
Same thing with me!
Are there any other alternatives then using a cleaning rod?
Pop I use a snake
Recently while playing at school, my slide fell off. I'm a fan of Trombotine cream, which usually works well, but after the slide hitting the ground (Just the outer) it feels rough around the stocking. Should I get it checked out or am I just paranoid?
Derek Douglas check for dents or bends
where did you buy the rod and how much did it cost?
anhkim vo its like $20 in the description
I'm a slide o mix fan too!! :)
Nice!
Did Slide-o-mix send you a load of free stuff in return for a little video clip by any chance?! Joking aside, keep up the good work; your channel is great!
I use Trombotine and have had no issues with it
Lol!! I was laughing so hard because Paul kept calling the slide oil lubricant 😂 :'D
lol xdddddddd
Rube Dah Giraf I think very wrong so throughout this whole video I was laughing my head off😂
DUDE! It IS a lubricant. So is the engine oil in a car. 8)
Have you tried slide cream?
Love the joke at the end!!! I love terrible jokes!!!
Gonna wanna.
What brand trombone is that
TheJediMonkey BAC Custom Model 6, I believe
What is the black thing on the bell portion?
that is a leather guard to protect the brass from ruining your clothes etc.
Can you tell me where to get one?
I have a drawer full of every brand of slide lube there is--- possibly except the most recent addition. Now I find that my hair tonic BRYLCREEM works best for me on both my horns. Who'd of thunk?
Who's the woman on the couch?? I've tried slide-o-mix on a friend's loner 4B , but I personally like Superslick 2-part more.
Austin Mann super slick is soo awful. It damaged my slide. If you really feel it it’s gritty
paul you're strange but i love you
What would happen if I put WD 40 on the slide?
Never mind I just finished the video
that was fun! Follow me on twitter to get in on the action next time twitter.com/jazztrombonist
Paul The Trombonist - Trombone and Music Producer thx for the ideas of those I could really use those kind of products
2:57 lol
What are u 12
Lol
noice :)
Giggity.
The Pond's Cold Cream of the 1950 era made one wonderful slide lube when just a pinch was added to a wter bottle. It was cheap and better than anything i have ever used. Sadly Pond's cold Cream changed their formula and the current cream is useless.
I don’t use my slide lock mostly because when I have to play I forget to unlock it lmao
Lol this is like an ad for slide o mix
did y'all know Jack Teagarden used to spray Pam on his slide? Cold cream and water works great too.
No, I heard he used Wildroot Hair Tonic. [He said he like the "fuzzy sound."
I didn’t know tobuscus played trombone
*cough cough cough sponsored cough cough*
my slide is garbage ill defiantly think about trying it
gaiusaeyu Oh The slide could be dented or misaligned as well.
How much is slide o mix paying you?
Your icon ruined me.
That spot on the nose is exactly where my cancer was that I had to have removed. It took away all the cartilage with it so I had to have cosmetic surgery to make a new nose.
old school ..nothing but Trombotine and gallons of water for me
I'm the same. I use a small spray bottle that seems to last me quite a while.
@@Metal-Possum Me to!
Best part : 1:20
choo wyng actually 2:56
Why aren’t you talking about the greatest slide lubricant ever made, lemon scented Pledge? Also, nobody gonna mention the person on the couch ?
Yamaha slide oil outperforms slide-o-mix. Just try it to convince yourself.
What kind of trombone is that?
B.A.C.
***** How is it? I'm looking for a new straight horn! Getting tired of the F attachment on my Conn.
Madeline Lee best horn i ever played, thats why I'm playing it
+PaulTheTrombonist I play on a Custom Shires .508 bore tenor. They make the best horns I have ever played on. 22 years Army Bandsman.
or just dump an entire container of Slide o mix on it
Yamaha slide lubricant is better +1
Looks like Jimmy Fallon
that is where i magic happens i have used this method for 12 years you know where it as!
would a snake be alright for this too?
Zachary Glaser ooohh didnt know that thanks for the info
UpstageBadger
This comment killed meeee
Sounds more like Guy Lombardo.
I usually just spit on mine.
Ok all good but wash your bone with olive allepo soap. It will stay smooth...
does it feel weird doing this on camera? 😂😂
Why on God’s green earth would you put any slide mix on the top part of the slide. The only part of the inner slides that touched the outer part of the slide is the crook of the slide (the bottom part that bulges out). You put a little bit on the bottom and work in on the crook only. Anything else is just a waist of time and potentially slows down the slide. But this is something you already know because you know everything there is about the trombone.
He docent seem amused with what he is saying.
Bath it in a pool of lubricants
Why am I here? I play the flute
trombone talk is like a magnet

Very strange video.
