Biggest lessons I learned recently is that you don't necessarily need to articulate every note when you are playing fast you can also just gliss between some of the notes

Excellent lesson Paul, practical and inspiring, beautifully edited for clarity. Your incredible lip slurring demonstrates what is technically possible on the instrument: amazing facility.

Paul, you just added value to my life. Thank you. Very inspiring. Gives me hope. This is my first comment on your channel. I am just at the information gathering stage. Before even a beginner. Maybe only a few that watch your stuff are at my pre-school level, but I am thankful for this demonstration overview so that I have an idea on how to navigate the bone. Great job.

You should talk about playing against the grain dude, it allows you to get around the horn with out having to articulate every note. players like Mark Knightingale and Andy Martin dont double or doodle tongue they just use the grain to get around.

Hopefully this helps with devil's waltz. Me and my friend are doing Devil's Waltz on bass trombones. If you don't know that song there's a passage in both parts (it's a duet) that has alot of 16th notes with differing notes (not chromatic). Very difficult to say the. Least

  • @micahkessner5592

I have always had trouble single touching fast. I can only do 16th notes at like 100 bpm. I realized while watching this that I can say "dah" really fast if I'm talking, it's just that my tounge has to move slightly different every other syllable, like it's moving back and fourth between two slightly different positions. I can replicate this in my air stream, though I haven't tried playing yet.
Is this tounge movement normal, or should I go back to how I've been doing it and struggle?

ok im playing a solo called marcellos sonata in f major and the second part of the song is fast and has a considerable amount of 16nth notes. i do have to start practicing more often i do know that but there isnt any real progress. im playing the same tempo but not going faster the music calls for "allegro" im curious how do i make minor adjustments to my metronome or do i make sure i play the passage as best as i can at the tempo marking i choose until i get to the tempo i wish to be at.
