In 13:58 the intro song is not the only true original song in GTA 3. Just like prior entries many songs from radio stations were originally made in-house for the game. It wasn't until Vice City where they would rely heavily in licencing music to set the tone and period.
This is an amazing video, especially considering that it's your first upload. I would love to see this analysis for Vice City as well and maybe a more direct comparison of how it improved on GTA 3 would be very interesting.
Gta3 really allowed you to approach a mission in an open ended way, the mission for example where you have to kill a guy in china town you can go round the back n steal his car so that he doesnt go n drive off n just runs instead. There arnt enough missions with that kind of variety thesedays where you can do a mission in a way you like to in most games. Gta3 really started the genre.
@@nicktubara I actually have a funnier way to beat that mission but it'll cost you. Take his car to 8 Ball's shop and put a bomb in it. Park it where it was, arm the bomb then go to where he is from the other entrance (there are 2 ways in and 2 cars). He'll get in it and blow up

My first game was Spyro the Dragon on the original PlayStation in the late '90s. So growing up, before the PS2, a character made of like 12 polygons was enough to me as a kid, because that's all I knew. When the PS2 came out, it's hard to explain the massive leap in graphic technology we were witnessing as kids in the early 2000's. When I played GTA III, when I was way too young for it 😂, it blew my fuckin 8 year old mind! I played racing games like Gran Turismo and Need for Speed, but the simple fact you could get out of your car blew my mind! And the fact it had no "levels", you played the game how YOU wanted. There were very few games that were open world, and this was my first. GTA III pretty much set the standard for open world objective based games like Assassin's Creed, Batman Arkham City, Insomniac's Spider Man, etc. The game was a milestone for open world games like Quake and Half-life was for FPS games! P.S. use the "real definitive edition" mods for the trilogy. It's a AIO mod for each game that fixes everything with all the games pretty much.
GTA 3 is something special about that i can’t explain myself, it’s my 2nd favorite putting first GTA IV it’s the atmosphere, npc, vehicle, and found the mission fun it’s heavily underrated and doesn’t get its recognition
I beated it on og Xbox on mobile at his release and again on PC where I did the platinum as well on Epic Games Store. Most probably one of my favorites games ever, I am so attached to it.
Around the same time, Microsoft turned down having GTA 3 as an Xbox exclusive and only brought Rareware because they wanted Donkey Kong to be the mascot for Xbox.
I finished the storyline missions like months ago and stopped playing it because I don't know what to do afterwards. GTA III missions wanna make you bang your head against the wall and that's true. The gameplay mechanic pissed us off pretty much.

gta 3 was gonna originally come out on the sega dreamcast but sega declined and sony made a deal with rockstar to release the game on ps2 exclusively for around a year until the it came out on pc and xbox a year later
Good first video for the channel . One bit of advice would be to probably talk slightly slower, just so can get the points across clearer. Not to say you weren't clear but when you slowed down to emphasise points it was much easier to hear. The main problem with this game was you could only really spend all your money on more guns. They also released vice City so quick afterwards and VC utterly blows III out the water. III is the first game I played on ps2 so always has a special place for me.
I’ve given this game so many chances in my life, but every time I try and go back to it, it’s always nothing but misery. GTA III actually had the most original music compared to other games in the series. If you look closely, most of the "licenced music" on isn't licenced at all! These are all in-store made tracks specifically for the game. Take "I See Through you" by Frankie Fame or "Change" by Lucy, for example. Both Lucy and Frankie Fame don't exist in the real life! Of course, they aren't AI generated, but were done by real people. But that's not my point. Point is that they have been made specifically for the game. Or if speak broader than just music in terms of radio content, Chatterbox is shining example. It's a pure comedy gold. So, GTA III has plenty to offer when it comes to original radio content, as opposed to licenced one.
When GTA 1 arrived it was not "shit", it had record sales in Europe. I guess it was more accessible here than in the USA. I loved the game because were no open world games with huge maps in which you can drive any car...none. Plus it was much more mature than the usual games, a lot more swearing. Plenty of friends at that time were quoting the guys from the cutscenes. GTA 2 was ok, but I think it attracted only die hard fans of GTA 1.

The PS2 vs Xbox comments casually dropped kind of indicate you weren't there for it. If you had an Xbox, you indeed had some cool games. But there was never a world in which GTAIII was not targeting the PS2 as the *primary* platform at that time. The market share of the PS2 was insane. PS2 had everything in its library, and then some. This isn't trying to have a flame war, it was just how dominant their position was after the PS1, and the PS2 absolutely solidified it. Xbox was and is a great console, but Xbox hit its true stride with the 360 era with sales. The original Xbox struggled for a long while to get release parity with the PS2, and while it had more powerful hardware, the ports were not always taking advantage of that due to it being an after though. This was a problem SEGA also had with the Dreamcast, and it ended their hardware line. MS was willing to lose billions though to make a bid for control of the living room.
GTA 3 definitely made use of the better hardware on the Xbox original, the PS2 version was so stripped down because rockstar couldn’t show us what they really had visioned due to the power they had on PS2, when they spent an extra year perfecting GTA3 for Xbox we got better textures, car weapon and ped models, reflections and sound quality. GTA 3 on Xbox original is by far the closest we will ever get to rockstars vision for the game
Anyone that says the game is bad is comparing it to modern games. Compared to games of its time, it was amazing. But yeah comparing it to say GTA V is ridiculous. Even comparing it to GTA IV wouldn't be fair.
I think people just use it to compare how bad it is compared to games nowadays but yeah ur right it isn’t really that fair since the game is 20+ years old
