- 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona first shake down test after restoration. On UNRESTRICTED german Autobahn to check the top speed. POV, no music, no talking, just driving and sound. No aggressive or illegal driving, no road rage.
That's what a 50 year old V12 Ferrari can do.

0:35 first run - up to 275 km/h
03:36 second run - up to 280 km/h

Awesome. Unbelievable speed in a car launched in 1968. And so stable. That is one stellar restoration. Well done.
Thank you! Yes it is amazing how easy and stable this thing runs at 200 km/h and above. This is what a Daytona was made for :-)
I wanna see 1968 Iso Grifo vette v8 top speed...should be appx 300 kmh, imo that car was something special. Italian style, european quality and muscle car strongest engine.
Yes, its stability impresses me the most and no play in its steering.
In 1969 Apollo got all the headlines. But this car.. this car truly is the Chariot of the Gods. Thank you for no music other than that provided by the V12 up front.
Just look at the steering wheel, dash, controls.. awesome.. everything you need, nothing you don’t.
Erfrischend pur und ehrlich. Kein Gerede, keine Musik, keine Kapriolen.
280 km/h and no vibrations at all...Even the steering wheel is barely moving....Impressive...Respect for your attentive/ careful driving....
The car looks very stable at speed. Very impressive when you realize how old it is.
Some have criticized the Daytona for its driving characteristics at normal speed: heavy steering, stiff gear box, too heavy, etc. but this drives shows what the car was designed to do and just how well it does it.
Yes, this was one reasons for me to post this video. To show how good a Daytona drives when properly set up and used for what it was made for
Very respectful driver sharing the common road in a safe manner. Notice how he adjusts his speed around others, even if they are in lanes to his right.
Back when human being's built proper cars instead of appliances.
You know the 812 Superfast which is the Daytona’s successor all be it with a few generations in between has a naturally aspirated 6.5 V12. You saying that’s an appliance?
@@alextester7037 I hear what you are saying. I cannot stand anything which is computer operated, it does not make me right but that is my opinion. You could stick 1500hp in a car, if it's full of electrical shite I would rather have 300hp with a cable operated throttle, manual or hydraulic power steering and a manual gearbox.
Yes! Its so much more about the feeling, the sound, the smell and so on, not the numbers!
I know that amodern civic turbo would blast the doors off that ferrari, but like somebody wisely said :"its much funnier to drive hard than fast", if you know what I mean.
@@alextester7037a car with a bunch of computer aided systems, and creature comforts like air conditioned seats, gps etc; is not a drivers car. EFI and abs are the only “assists” I feel are required for safety and daily ease of function. Other then that, manual gear box, no TCS no STC… just pure car and driver interaction
And knew how to use apostrophes.
280 km/h in a car with high-profile tires… Sir, you are a legend! 🙌
And now: pig skin driving gloves, massive sideburns, suede jacket, a lit cigarette in the corner of your mouth… to complete the picture. What a car, thanks for a fantastic video
refreshing to see someone who knows how to drive a car, I don't just mean the speed, I mean holding the steering wheel correctly, making quick gear changes and not using the gear stick as a hand rest,...change gear and hands straight back on the steering wheel...there are so many lazy drivers on you tube who just can't drive properly, this Ferrari pilot is good , you can tell he is a pro driver.
This brings back VERY happy memories of driving my Daytona. The car is astonishingly well-planted at high seeds; look at the steering wheel in the video - it's rock solid. All the elements come together - the heavy steering, the perfect weight distribution and the aerodynamics. Also, they sound SO much better than modern supercars.
Can I ask why did you sell it?
Very stable car for 1960's technology. Give it up for the classic's!
Always wanted to see a Daytona do this but never thought anyone would do it ,my favourite car for 50 years absolutely amazing and thanks for uploading.
Pure mechanical beauty
A few years ago, my wife and I were on our way down Bulla Rd in Melbourne in our heavily tuned Evo X and we got into a bit of a good mannered stoush with a couple of guys in a Daytona. Our Evo had 400+ KW at the wheels and the two Hawaiian shirted lads in the Daytona were easily keeping pace with us in the traffic! It's something I'll always remember!
The stat which always impressed me most was 110-130 in 4th gear in something like 5.4 secs, same as the 0-60 time. Even now in 2022 that's a quick time for the horsepower and your typical Golf R type car won't manage it. One of my childhood dreams cars the Daytona.
The sound of that V12 going up through the gears is amaing.
Great to see an old Ferrari driven properly. In its element here !
Old Ferrari V12s sound so good 😭
It's actually good to see someone driving their rare Ferrari and even better to see it actually being used how it was intended
This is absolutely amazing and unique youtube video. Full send in rare, 700 000 €, 1968 Ferrari up to 280km/h... Like a boss.
in a car with no safety no less, you crash you die!
@@Fred_the_1996 The driver stuck to the Autobahn driving rules as he demonstrated , speed doesn't kill , but ignorance will certainly kill you .
The sound makes the hair stand up on your neck, gives me goosebumps. The ultimate dream machine. Also reminds me of the Film Gumball Rally
Une vraie voiture pour les vrais hommes !!
Lovely to look at, it’s even nicer to see and hear a 365 doing what it was designed for! Around 160 mph is properly stretching its legs, bravo.
I would take this car over any new supercar .. Stunning automobile
One of Ferrari's all-time best road cars, and that Colombo V12 ripping canvas..
When the Daytona appeared on the cover of that issue of Road & Track did they show the beautiful Pininfarina body? No, the picture was of the speedometer and tachometer needles wound almost to their maximums. Many decades later and your video is the first time I’ve seen that same view, and better than a static photo too!
Your video is a treasure. Thank you.
Now I will watch it again.
Thank you for this beautiful reply
Just great, love the sound and looks restored to a high standard 👌
Manuals are for drivers, automatics are for passangers....
Much better than a battery toy car with a plug in the bumper..
This is one of my favorite cars, great restoration. It all seems so effortless, and that for a late 60's released car, just put that in perspective when compared to other cars of that era.
Nice driving. Something about that V12 sound, rock solid at that speed for a restoration of a Classic Daytona 365 GTB/4.
Top speed run- box checked. Now time to find some twisty sections of asphalt, maybe a run through a mountain pass next?
Thanks for bringing us along. Most of us will never have this experience in our lives. V12 entertainment while you wait.
there's air passing throught windows or doors but for a car built in 1972....wow!!! (and the melody of the colombo is....orgasmic)
A proper Ferrari of the old school, lovely!
now that is a ferrari
WOW What a Drive for a car designed back in the late 60's ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!.
the way that gathers speed is something else!
I know they did this speed in the day like it was whatever, but to top 170mph in one of these now that it's 50 years old is something else.
holy moly! a yellow Daytona doing 280km/h, couldn't be any better!🤯
huh? let's do mph.
I love the way the front end rises on the throttle. My Mustang GT does that and it adds to the drama of driving fast. The instrument cluster is beautiful.
My all time favourite car. That V12 sounds awesome.
Meraviglia!!!
The balance of sound between the intake growl and that old V12, perfection!
For a car that has bottle caps for brakes your awfully brave
Best view ever. Great interior. Love the dial cluster, and steering wheel positioning.
That steering wheel.....rock solid..great restoration
So good to see these cars driven as intended ! Great sound, awesome car!
Great performance for such a vintage classic,a 50 y.o.car(whatever the real achieved top speed). Congrats for still driving it the way it was intended to be driven instead of just letting it laying in a garage.
solid as a rock..
Inside the Daytona, you're back in another time -- and all the "fridge-freezers" you are passing remind you of that. And even the autobahn looks bland and sterile... I like the old world! :0)
#1 most beautiful car ever built. IMO.
What a sound!
Wind, yeah great...
Had a chance to buy a Datona Spyder in 1979 for $45,000. I decided on a 79' Porsche 930 Turbo instead. Through the years I have often wanted to kick myself in the head. The 930 was great, but the Daytona decision leaves lingering regret.
174 mph (indicated)
Dan Gurney would approve. Rest in peace Dan.
That engine is music.
Lucky You. Last time I drove to Germany whit my Skoda 2.0 diesel I only see baustelle at every 1,5 km.
That sound! ❤️
This is a first class Concorde !!!
Looks impressively rock steady at top speed. Of course, Ferrari did adapt it to race at Le Mans in period for the uninterrupted 6 km Hunaudières straight, which was and remains a public road.
I’ve just bought a Daytona myself and I’m looking forward to having this experience first-hand. 😎
La plus belle des Ferrari.
Love seeing nose lift at each new gear
Wow incredible! I always thought the top speed was exaggerated, but this is definately for real! Amazing!
imagine that back in the 70's..mind warp speed and still quick now, I once had an experience in the 80's where one passed me when i was in a coach doing 100km, it was easily doing what this is here, it is indelibly etched in my mind
that's pretty impressive for a 50 plus year old car.
Fantastic video ! Bold move man, with a car like this. What a sound 🤩
6:22 That Fiesta was going for it too lol. Must have been an awesome experience being past by such a rare vintage sportscar and hearing it's exhaust sound over the high speed noise in your own car
Yes it was a Fiesta ST and was giving it all with 230 km/h :-))
Others nowadays might be a bit faster, but this has a heart and soul that virtually none have today. Whilst 170 plus is hardly slow, especially considering when it first came out, decades ago !
Yep,over half a century ago,wow!
Sounds amazing. Great driver.
I could watch this all day. Pure class.
This is the difference between doing something with class.....and modern Mercedes AMG / AUDI S Line Drivers 😅
Wow, that old girl runs like a new car.
Thank you for uploading, I genuinely enjoyed this video 👍👍
That sounds glorious
Absolutely love pretty much any video which shows those old, hearty cars being driven at full whack. Lovely video of a lovely car man. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Ow, Great tho see this beauty at this incredible speed...and so stable. Fantastic restoration...
A lot less courage than a VW Beetle Type-1, at a fraction of this car's top speed; I can assure you. I've had three, they were all the same. You're constantly making corrections above 75mph. Any gusty wind, you'll know all about it. You have to be reading the movement of trees in the distance constantly to have an idea when and how much to correct..
That's what it was build to do. Great. And soundwise not comparable with this dumptruck-sound of a modern AMG or so. Just a nice, clean 12 cylinder.
Great sound of this beautiful 12 cylinder- Ferrari beast, I agree. But a modern 6cylinder Porsche sounds also great at these speed.
Absolutely awesome
Watched this again and it’s incredible, mind blowing car wish I one could see the car as a whole. Looks like it is Yellow or something along those lines. Whoever built this must/ should be proud of a fantastic car build quality. 👊🏿
Fantastic. Would without a doubt find a place for a Daytona in my dream car garage.
Wow, when he is doing 250km/hr which is 150mph that minivan he passes must be doing at least 120 mph.
240 == 150mph. And the way some people drive on the autobahnen, it's entirely possible that the vans and Golf Rs are close to their max speed..
I'm impressed. So much power and stability in a time, when 200 km/h on a German Autobahn was really fast for "normal" cars...
Wow, drives super smooth and accelerates good. Race technique brought to road. 👍👍
Great video, great restauration job!
Mezmerizing…!
Done 270km/h in my Z4M Coupe and that was plenty enough. This is super impressive, Daytona at 280 easy.
V12 Colombo enigine sound orgasmic
Sweet! Thx for the ride!
When you first drive one of these, the first thing you notice is that the steering is like a big truck with manual steering. At low speeds its a pain, but at high speeds it is perfect. Notice how few corrections the driver is making. Just hold the wheel and drive.
Fabulous effort, blissful wheels.
Holy shit! That’s rapid. Great restoration job.
Good start to the channel.
For a 50-year-old car, this beauty still hauls A S S. Still a fast car by today's standards.
What a car!
I remember the road test on these cars back in Road and track they were supposed to run 175
Wow that’s incredible, a car that’s over 50 should not boogie like that. One hell of a restoration that must have been, I suspect this drives better than when it was new, testament by this video of a quality build just by this presentation. Very happy car indeed. Max props 👌🏿
Before I even started this video, I had 280 in my head. Also, even though it's blurred, I love the fact that the rearview mirror is a standard Fiat item. Same as in my 128.
Impresive
Dream machine!!
