"The greatest grand tour-er ever made."
Little did Richard know he'd define that twice in a row.
Typical James, going the wrong way. On a boat. Before he's even left the harbour.

"Move your scrap off the harbor " ... oh James
Sometimes he comes up with the funniest...
*harbour
@@terrier_productions harbor is american spelling, harbour is british spelling, they’re both correct.

It looks so comfy
Trust me, it's not a great idea
The music that accompanies the Daytona at 00:48 is Primavera by Ludovico Einaudli if anyone is interested.
+Ben Dietrich Thanks!
Legend. Thanks!!
thank you sir!
Ben Dietrich Thank you so much!
You my friend are a hero...id buy u a beer if i cud
6:50 "Puffy dad and New York Hilton"
Epic 😂😂😂
Puff Daddy and Paris Hilton remixed by Captain Slow
"Puffy Dad and New York Hilton"...😂
I had no idea what he was mumbling about until I read your comment. LOL!
11 years later and Ferrari makes a car named after the Italian Whitby
Namely?
Roma
Jev Lin nah portofino wtf??? XD
Yeah, the Ferrari portofino
@@maxpoweroverdrive the song used here : Divenire by Ludovico Einaudi
I was wowed by the exterior, but had my jaw dropped when I saw the interior. Just like Hammond said, "drop dead gorgeous".
Imagine Jeremy in that boat...
"I don't know what any of this meeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaans"
SPEEED AND POWEERRR
THE SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeEEEEeeED
"I can mend it with a hammer!"
jeremy would be like, "OOH OOH SPEED AND POWAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"the boat is too much for my genius"
Imagine driving the Ferrari Daytona on the Daytona track with the Rolex Daytona on your wrist. Simply perfect.
Rolex Daytona so better than this trash car
giannis pateras shitty watch is better than a classic ferrari, right
giannis pateras you sound like somebody who’s never driven it (neither have I, but experts agree that the Daytona is amazing).
For it’s time it was fast but honestly it falls victim to time
A simple econobox car will outrun a Daytona, hell a Toyota Sienna van accelerates faster than a Daytona.
@@tony_5156 but they do not have the same image and drivability or "person" a daytona has
£200,000? For the Daytona? Ironically it could now be worth as much as they quoted the boat
I know right my father is having regrets about selling his Daytona about 15 years ago.
The fact that he had one in the first place should leave him with no regrets.
200k for a Daytona only ten years ago... Honestly, you could sell it for a million today.
No you couldn't, they're about £600k.
@@Kieran0 still that 400000 in just 10 years
Not a particularly good example though - the wheels are tarnished and the paint is flawed, and the leather is cracked.
@@mrtom2854 Although if its a completely original model, paint wheels leather etc then it would be classed as a good example
@@mrtom2854 Well yeah this one was driven it seems
it's sad that they don't make cars like these anymore..
+John Lucas Yes, it is. The Daytona was brutally powerful in its day, and yet, it had feminine grace. That's what missing in todays automobiles: charm.
+Andrew Piatek You are very correct with the possible exception of the Maserati GranSport Cambiocorsa and Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.
John Lucas Ferrari just unveiled the SP2 Monza Monoposto and the SP2 Monza Biposto....your welcome

I paused this at 7:00 to run to my non carbon fiber toilet and then had to ask myself what that person on the boat was doing when I got back.
Carbon fiber toilet seat?! Genius!
yup @ 2:38 i want one
If you've ever worked with c/f, you've gotten c/f splinters. And you'd never sit on a c/f toilet seat
British baillifs
Gotta make my house lighter
Makes your shit lighter and more aerodynamic
5:39 this is peak Top Gear, for me
Souvlaki Space Station at 5:40. Thank you BBC
Daytona is just ... GORGEOUS .
Although I heard many people saying that Daytona was one of the ugliest; this is actually one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever made in my opinion!
Especially the convertible version.
Siddharth Udayakumar So? Did I say anything against that?
Jonas Zeidler I'm rich cause I'm not a comme hahahahaha but you know what your more sadder....wanna know why?
Awww did you not understand my sarcasm??? hahaha Its sad because I'm just trolling you and its working far better then I though it would. I wonder why is that.....
Is it because you are a loser with low self-esteem issues and cannot help but reaction to my quirky and obviously troll responses?
Siddharth Udayakumar What you are doing is far off Sarcasm, and proves you obviously have no idea of what it actually is ;)
What you did is coming up and accusing somebody off something. THIS is not sarcasm.
Must hurt to be you, turning your own problems on somebody else.
I hope you get well, soon, son.
You've gotta LOOOOOVE that sound at 3:10!
1:11 drop dead gorgeous looks, stunning speed, born in Italy, made in the Royal Navy
This video is beautiful, the visuals, the music. It will become a classic, just like the Ferrari Daytona.
How can someone dislike a Top Gear video? I'm confused.
First song is "Primavera by Ludovico Einaudi"
+walendaaa Thank you.
Legends say Hammond is still 38 years old
5:39 slowdive - souvlaki space station
The transition at 3:36 sent me into a trance, gorgeous
The song to present the Daytona is beautiful~
part 1 title " XSR"
part 2 title: XRS"
hello?
Guys, I live in Sestri Levante, which is the opposite cape of the bay (called Golfo Del Tigullio) that begins in Portofino. The places shown in this video are where I go to school every day, but I didn't realise how beautiful they are until I saw this video, just because I'm so used to living in this area that I often forget how lucky I am. We've got beautiful places, beautiful buildings, beautiful gardens, a beautiful see and a beautiful countryside, reachable in just 20 minutes by car
5:45 sexiest piece of car footage in history
Puffy dad and New York Hilton is the most James may insult ever 6:45
Best Ferrari ever. They never come back to this level of elegance.
I’m watching this after viewing today’s Pistonheads’ Daytona vid. I then remembered TG had a race in one many years ago and was happy to find it! Great vid ..just a shame it is 360p (filmed on video I guess) 😎
It was just the best show ever
Einaudi - Primavera...A perfect piece of music to accompany a perfect piece of engineering top gear does it again... At 8 years ago...
Loved this especially the "Karbon Karsie" on the boat. "St Trop" is great including all the silliness. There used to be a great restaurant just back from the harbour in Rue Allard but for the life of me cannot remember the name but I,m going back a few years! The Daytona is a cracking looker but very heavy driving as Hammond said!! Interesting that Enzo once said that the Jag E type was the most beautiful car he,d ever seen!
top gears background music is great
The boat reminds me of the boat 007 used on the Thames in London in The World Is Not Enough.
4:00 Captains don't usually act as helmsman, Captain Slow.
That "wow" at the end make a great error noise for a Windows 98 desktop theme!
When this was released?
I love the way Hamster says "some rich man's vulgar toy" lmao
the real top gear
5:40 Slowdive on top gear?
They had mbv's soon in another video
Can't beat a classic Ferrari V12.
Finally full video. Not completely, but at least more.
@gecmartins amazing camera angle...and great effects.... i just love top gear
8:14 Best part.... o.O

Turbodiesel raceboat... Epic...
5:38 - Souvlaki Space Station by Slowdive! Thought I recognized that warbling tone.
unreal song, surprised to hear it on top gear
2:16, May: "... modern intelligent engineering sssssssolutions!" :-)))
Einauidi is playing loved that
Your maths are utterly flawless. I applaud you.
That coity looks amazing! i would love to go there on a holiday.
Can’t lie the inside of that boat looks so cosy
THAT car for THAT stretch of road... absolutely perfect.
I love James May's imitation of a pirate every time he hits a wave.
Love the car and the boat when are you going to show the McLaren p1 on top gear
THAT BOAT THOUGH
Damnit, these guys have a great job.
james' pain voice when he goes over the waves sounds like the storm troopers from classic star wars battlefront 2
Anticipation my friend. Anticipation. Keeps people watching.
This car will never age
The typical "jet set" music they played while Richard was driving on the autostrada was just perfectly chosen.
The front ( esp. at 06:20 looks like a late 80’s / early 90’s corvette).
Cea. Mai tare emisiune
thank you so much.
@gecmartins exactly, great point, mate
Nice, i love this car! Its the only "old" Ferrari i have ever drooled over!
oh and whats the music in the beginning? (starting at 0:50 ?)
wish we had this show on basic cable in the states...lol

'Move your scrap of the harbour,' classic line.
I know it's a TV show etc, but when James walks in saying "No, it isn't" at 1:32 , I'm sat here thinking... it just is...

This is what made top gear interesting. Fast cars, fast boats, seeing the jet set lifestyle probably none of us will ever see.
When this was released?
And now there's a Ferrari Portofino!!!
The boat looks sooooo cool
"I offered him a race..." "If James wantes a race..." You make no sense, Richard
One of the most beautiful cars ever built IMHO.
Saw one in person a few years ago near to where I live avd it was even more gorgeous in person.
3:05 “chav”
Good video
Nice SD1 you got there Hammond!
Anyone know the soundtrack used in the video? The one at the beginning when introducing the Daytona?
Ummm... what sort of supersonic boat is the cameraman in? Because he's waiting in position to film May zoom past him about 20 times.
That's called having a camera crew
Aurageyser Orion it's called ''not actually having a race.''
USERNAMEfieldempty the races are real but they film the glamour shots on the way back.
He's in a bass boat lol
Or… the as we know, they had a really large film crew and some a set up at strategic locations along the route... i don’t know I could be overthinking it
Hammond has something from 40 years ago.
James has something from 40 years in the future.
Wow Richard Hammond was 50 today
My goodness, that boat is almost as beautiful as the car
This is their second best epidsode after the show with they did with the corvette zr1, challenger, and cts v.
Hammond is right!! It is magnificently sublime!! what i wish i could have someday!
I kept getting mixed up at 2:30 because I'm so used to Hammond being the one with the modern high tech toys
0:49 Primavera - Ludovico Einaudi
what a beautiful boat ;)!!
How did the camera crew keep up? Did they have another one of those?
Small Moustache Man maybe a helicopter
They do most of if not all the B-roll shots separately. Also wouldn’t be hard to keep up with the Daytona with a modern car.
anyone know where that building with the Palm trees at the beginning of the film is located or what it is called? I've looked up and down the Riviera on google maps and I don't know where it is.
i dont like that version of the daytona, i like the spyder
@Molo9000
I know, but it shows that the car has the aerodynamic capability to reach those speeds. The only real difference was some lowered, oval-track suspension, some majorly tweaked gearing, and a tuned 426. Unlike NASCARS of today, it was possible to buy a car off the showroom floor in 1970 and make it quite close to a racing version with some time and money. Some Daytonas that were actually raced got driven to the track from a Dodge dealership just hours before the start.
