- Gravel bike circular ride in west London, including Richmond Park, Thames path and Wimbledon Common. For someone living in the Scottish Highlands this was quite an adventure.

The off-road Tamsin Trail in Richmond Park is much nicer and more fun than sticking to the tarmac, definitely.
Lovely to see a route I take often. It's quite difficult to find good gravel around central London and this part of the Thames path is the best I've found for it.
Thanks for visiting my local area. There are some wonderful cycling gems in London, but you have to look for them. Wimbledon is definitely the best place for some off road spice - in the strong summer heat, it is much cooler under the trees along those forest paths@ But as you saw, it is very easy to end up on a pedestrian path.
If you have time - you should try the superhighways from Hyde Park past Buckingham Palace, to the Houses or Parliament and especially along the river. It is an incredible segregated bicycle lane with gold medal sightseeing. And the very centre of London at the weekend is wonderful on a bicycle - there is virtually no traffic!
I hope to be down at Christmas so might try that then - thank you!
Riding a new route is what keeps it fun for me.
I cycle in SW Birmingham where I live. I have explored way more of my home city by bike than I ever did by foot or car. Once you get to know the area its amazed me I can cycle to loads of places without ever touching busy roads. If I go due West I can be up on the Waseley Hills with views to Wales on a clear day too.
We city dwellers have to make the best we have got, and dream of your scottish rides!
Oh absolutely! I was in Glasgow for 10 years and finding off-road routes was great fun. Make the most of what you have and enjoy the ride. 😁
Grand union canal is a good one
Great video and thanks for providing the corrected route! I used the route last week, as part of a longer ride coming from Weybridge and it worked well!
Glad it was helpful Laurence and damn pleased I got it right eventually - Phew!
if i shut my eyesthe commentary takes me back to your time on Look North with Mike Neville.excellent channel
Oh My.
Good video , it is complicated for us to find a properly off route in London! A
No Cycles allow 😂 London is not friendly with ofr road cycling 😅
My local !! I was there the same time prob
And yes it’s an awesome route, in London, on the doorstep.
You can swing the other way, Richmond to Kington to Hampton court then down to Guildford on path 4.. and that traffic is light down there… try Hyde Park Corner for some mad traffic
The cycling route is just parallel to the non cycling on the bit in Wimbledon LOL
And the bit where you cant get out to the start… just exit on the gate and cycle up the stars and garters hill.
All great info I'll know for next time. And yes, I've previously been out form Kingston on one of the Sigma rides organised by Hot Chilli - that was lovely riding too.
3:42 - 4:00 crazy bit of out-of-sequence editing there! 😂
I don't think so - it was along time ago but I saw no reason to cut around the sequence...
@@alwaysanotheradventure 'fraid so 🙂
You go under Hammersmith Bridge, then cut to coming along The Terrace, just past Barnes Bridge, which is further upstream than Hammy Bridge.
More along Lonsdale Road, still upstream of Hammersmith Bridge, then all of a sudden on Putney Embankment, a good mile and a half downstream of Hammy Bridge.
Deffo out of order.
I commute by bike in and around Wimbledon and Putney through Richmond park. It was very interesting to see your perspective of the routes, particularly the joys of Putney high street 😂 Nice video 👍
It was genuinely refreshing if scary!
Truly! Just though it worth a mention that I recently discovered your channel after getting back into road biking and searching for some product reviews. May I say that your presenting and video quality is extremely professional. I hope that doesn’t sound patronising, you might be a tv presenter for all I know 😂 Anyway top notch content and I look forward to more 👍
@@seanoconn75 very kind of you. Yes, BBC Correspondent then video journalist for (ahem) ‘a few’ years before this 😁
Always worth exploring a different area on your bike 👍 Hate to think what London roads are like but off road sections looked interesting. Would be interested to know which handlebar bag you were using - looks nice and neat.
Thanks Graham. The bag is by Straight Cut Design - their bagel bag. It’s a small business so worth supporting I felt.
@@alwaysanotheradventure thanks for that!! some good looking products and Scottish to boot 👍
3:16 what was the reason you came off the Thames Path and onto the road at this point?
You should have been able to carry on through to 3:33 along the path, under normal circumstances.
Edit to add: not sure why the Dirty Weekend Komoot route has that deviation either.
Crikey, no idea! Just following the GPS track!
yes, my idea of hell riding in suburbia like that...i live in rural county durham...and i always double check the routes i plan on doing as sites like garmin connect and komoot tend to send me places where one is not supposed to cycle..
if you're ever in county durham (weardale area) - then give me a shout..
I know Weardale - nearly bought a house in Stanhope. I’ve been lucky to avoid suburban life, apart from 10 years in Glasgow (which was fun) but feel lucky to live where I do.
You should do the offroad london to Brighton route. I did it in August and it's amazing
That does sound tempting!
Not dissimilar to the trail rides we do with Liverpool Road & Trail CC although we're in a much nicer part of the world of course 🤣🤣
Simon, is your cycle top made by "Torm"? Trying to make it the label from my turbo trainer! 🤓
😂 yes, small business in Kent run by Paul and Al who I met at a Ride to the Sun. (their website could be a little better) www.torm.cc/
@@alwaysanotheradventure looking the colour and reflective stripes etc... Will have a browse later. Thanks chief (& how the other half live eh? Totally agree about your idea of hell!)
Cracking vid as usual 👌
Given the choice, I would choose civilisation and go back to Scotland, Simon.
😁 I like visiting here but I prefer living where I do. And I know how fortunate I am to do so.
The no cycling thing cheeses me off . If it just said cycle slow please
Go to London? I'd rather repeatedly poke myself in the eye.
😂
