    I used to cycle from Ealing to Fulham all the time when I was younger. Wish this video was around then. From about the pilot pub though your route is exactly the same as mine was.

    Thanks Jon. Another excellent video through my manor. 2 comments from one who uses this route frequently, if I may:
    1. I avoid the Thames Path. You are allowed to cycle it, but it is always busy. At the end of Crisp Rd (6:37) I turn right and weave back on to your route where it passes under Hammersmith Flyover. As long as Hammersmith Bridge remains closed to motor vehicles this is a safe and easy alternative.
    2. End of Wellesley Rd (13:41). Definitely straight on to Capital Interchange Way. This avoids both the big junction on Kew Bridge and the nasty right turn on the unprotected Brentford High St. The A4 cycle path leaves a lot to be desired (it's by the A4!) but it is a venerable old route and does a job.
    Thanks and keep up the good work. 👍

    Living in London back in the 90s, I've neved used a car. Well I was too young anyways :) , so my major transport was by busses, tube, and bicycle too but more for recreation. I think both bus and tube transport is well designed in London. Both can get you anywhere you want. And even with some interchanges it wasn't much of a nuisance.
    One thinng I've always hated was the cars tightly parked in those narrow side roads, leaving little space to pass through. But that's just London :)

    Great video! A short ways past where you ended there is a two way cycle way along Ealing Green that will take you by Ealing Studios and as far as the Ealing Broadway shopping center. This really opened my eyes to how crap ealing are with cycle (and pedestrian) infrastructure compared to neighbouring boroughs. Subbed!

  • @intercity4319

    Think your best bet for getting into the heart of Ealing is to head up the North Circular shared use pavement (not great I know) until you hit Ealing Common then join a cycle track which takes into the Broadway but there is a little unprotected stretch between the A406 and the cycle track.
    You could also continue from St Mary's Church to Ealing Broadway via St George's Avenue, Lammas Park Road, Lammas Park Gardens and Walpole Park.

    Really helpful video, thanks! Unfortunately I live in Ealing and just assumed London was terrible for cycling but this makes it look like our council is exceptionally poor at providing safe cycling infrastructure. I'd love a route from Ealing to Tower Bridge that felt safe but I haven't been able to scope a route through Ealing, Acton, or Shepherd Bush that I like.

    • @Londoncycleroutes
      @Londoncycleroutes  Рік тому +1

      Yeah that’s mostly doable the main problem is Kensington High Street. And I agree Ealing is quite behind… there was that whole debacle with them pulling out their LTNs etc. i do have a couple of routes in the works around there though!

    Enjoying the video's immensely, I'm very wary of passing parked cars when there's not enough room to pass without running the risk of car doors opening in front of you having clipped a few with my saddlebag, I find car seat headrests a nuisance because you can't always tell if there's anyone in the vehicle although I do acknowledge their safety aspects.

    • @Londoncycleroutes
      @Londoncycleroutes  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah I should probably mention parked cars more often - definitely important to stay clear of the door zones. Some painted cycle lanes are particularly bad for luring people into them

    I used that section on Heathfield Terrace twice this week and both times someone went speeding past me and passed very close because someone was coming in the other direction. Happened to you in the video too. I think it's people trying to bypass traffic so they drive extra fast to get ahead.

    Can you do a video of your bicycle setup, i.e camera placement, any bags, what locks you use in London

    • @Londoncycleroutes
      @Londoncycleroutes  2 роки тому

      interesting idea, maybe sometime! If you’re interested, I have a GoPro Hero8 mounted directly on the handlebars with a generic third party mount. For a lock I use a Kryptonite New York lock that I carry on a mount on the bike - I really should use a second lock which is good practice for securing wheels but i just haven’t… bags I just use a normal rucksack, though I hear panniers are useful and have been meaning to get a rack fitted!

    Olive Road at the end is never that busy, when they made it into LTN they totally ballsed it up, fire engines had to go the long way around, it was never needed as the area was never used as a cut through....Also the bridge over the underground is a cyclist dismount area. You could have went into the centre of Ealing by going through the Church yard and using the back streets to get to the Polish Church at the back of the Broadway Shopping centre.

    You label Fulham Football Club, but why no reference to Brentford Football Club when you cycle past it just before you reach Kew Bridge?! Outrageous behaviour!
    You can get to the centre of Ealing on a quiet cycle route from Chiswick High Road. Instead of turning left into Heathfield Terrace continue until you reach the traffic lights with Acton Lane. Turn right at Acton Lane, past Sainsbury's and at Chiswick Park Station turn left into Bollo Lane. Go straight across the 2 railway crossings and continue up Bollo Lane. Follow the road to the very top where it meets Acton Town Station. Bollo Lane does have some traffic but it is on the low side and worth using to get to the remaining part of my route. At the top of Bollo Lane turn left into Popes Lane (quite busy, and for a very short distance). Take 1st right into Gunnersbury Crescent and then right into Gunnersbury Gardens. Take 1st right into Carberry Avenue. At the t- junction follow the road round the corner into Tring Avenue. This takes you over the Piccadilly line. At the top of Tring Avenue is a T-junction where you turn left into Leopold Road. You will see the specific cycle crossing that takes you across the North Circular Road and onto Warwick Road. Turn right at the roundabout (Grange Pub is on corner) onto a road named The Common. Take the 3rd left into The Grove At the end of The Grove cycle through the barriers until you reach the traffic lights. Ealing Town Centre is now to your right. Around 15-25 minutes from Chiswick High Road.

      @@Londoncycleroutes The trouble with the Bollo Lane route is the level crossing for the Overground so you can get stuck when that is down. There are actually 2 level crossings on Bollo Lane but the northernmost one is only used for freight at the moment.

    A little hint for you from a car & cycle user. Those give way markers on the roads are NOT just for vehicles. They are for ALL road users. So why did you not obey them? Plus I'd be interested to see if you have the courage to post a video about cyclists not stopping at red lights or crossings. Or riding on pavements putting pedestrians at risk.
