    Angus has said that, during a show, there would be a pile of "plectrum" shavings all around Malcolm's feet.
    Apparently Malcolm literally "attacked" the rhythm section of their songs.

    I use the D shape G to play intro. Learned that back in 85. God I’m old and a C9 shape for main riff. 10 different ways to China :). Been w you since other Channel thanks 🙏🏻

    Stops after trying to mimic the Angus fingering and says "Angus is great". YUP! I've always loved how those guys played complementary parts.

      Try the intro up the neck if you’re having trouble, it’s a lot easier and sounds great on the bigger strings. (And it’s where Angus plays it) 😁

    You know James I love Zeppelin, Aerosmith, the Stones ,Beatles ... but it was AC/DC that got me playing guitar. I always wanted to play like Malcolm, IMO one of the best rhythm guitar players ever!! RIP. Malcolm...Thanks for the lesson!!

    AC/DC leave space - makes the sound bigger on all of their tracks, very clever on their part. Funnily enough they ain't all that heavy but altogether they sound a lot heavier.
    As you say the chord based riffing is always immaculate, very effective.
    Thanks for the lesson👍😊

      Great way to describe AC/DC. I grew up listening to them, and I always thought of them as a hard rock or heavy rock band playing complicated stuff; in a way, they are and they do, but not the way I thought. As a novice guitarist now trying to learn their songs, I’m discovering that what makes them so good, among many other things, is how super-tight they play, and usually in a fast-paced, intense, fun, never-let-up kind of way. That, plus they are just so darn good at keeping it simple and catchy.

    • @musoseven8218
      @musoseven8218 2 роки тому +1

      @@boomerdell Thanks. Likewise spot on too, I'd say, there's a certain immaculate joy about their music. I learned more about them too, in my teens, learning to play. I listened to them prior from about the age of 11 or 12, really took notice from 15 onwards.

    I have watched them play that song a few times live, and I am pretty sure (almost 100% confident) that Angus plays that riff lower on the neck, so it starts with xx078x or something, then he flicks the 8 to the 10 (brief hammer & pull off) and then brings it back to xx077x... I'll let you double check, if you look at any video of them live you, you should see him play the lick in that location, which explains why the riff with the strings feels so filled up with so much vibrato (something you could probably not pull if you play it up around xx0033). Anyway, you have had me subscribed for quite some time, to both of your channels!, and I just love all your videos, probably know most of them, hehe, definitely one of the top channels on UA-cam by far. Cheers to you from the beachy shores of Mexico.

    • @MarcAbela
      @MarcAbela 2 роки тому +1

      You might see Angus play that lick right here in this video:
      ua-cam.com/video/I6iOVXOBULI/v-deo.html
      I think the vibrato thing on the strings got me thinking (initially) that he was probably playing the riff way higher on the neck, somewhere closer to the 12th fret where the strings are just much slacker in order to give that wobbly-wobbly sound to the riff. Anyway, thumbs up on this video as always, and you sure have the tone sharp on the nail, love it.

    • @MarcAbela
      @MarcAbela 2 роки тому

      Wild to see how Angus plays the rest of the song also, very talented & efficient movement (between the G & the D, etc), wild to see him position his fingers with the least amount of motion...

    Malcolm was such an underated rhythm guitarist. Love the sound of Filtertrons with some dirt. Laughable that many believe they're no good for anything but clean and country tones. Reality they're fantastic for getting driven tones with clarity and definition.

      He actually has solos on songs such as Soul Stripper on the Australian version of the High Voltage album. He also plays the lead intro on Can I Sit Next to You Girl and played the solo on AC/DC's second recorded song, Rockin in the Parlour. He also plays lead guitar as a session musician on Stevie Wright's Hard Road album. He did a fair bit of session work in the early 70s but the names of the albums/songs escape me. Angus played guitar on the Stevie Wright song "Guitar Band", too.
