Used to take the Metra BNSF line to Highschool everyday, it was like an adventure. Rode the Metra this year and ended up falling in love with my boyfriend on the train ride home from Chicago.. I’ve always loved trains but the Metra has a special place in my heart
I lived next to a metra train stop for 2 years. I have these sounds burned into my memory. I will never forget it
Wow!!

@@MetraEmdF40PH oh my goodness am I getting flashbacks!
@@ktjmitchell7722 Haha!
@@MetraEmdF40PH and also the Ding Dong noise played immediately beforehand ;)
I have taken the Union Pacific - West Line thousands of times... my favorite thing is when it gets cold and Metra lights the tracks on fire with natural gas so that the switches don't freeze. I love looking at the fire when arriving in the Loop.
I remember when I used to live right next to a stretch of track in Illinois. My father would come back from his job in Chicago every time and took me down to that stretch of track to watch Metra and the hi-rails. It’s always stayed in my memory and I think about it every time I think of Metra.
Houston Texas need a commuter railroad system similar to Chicago, I love the Metra trains when I lived in Illinois. My commute into downtown Chicago was very relaxing and it beats drive in rush hour traffic.. Thumbs up to Metra..
Nedra Bell same dude. Texas really needs a similar commute train. I loved riding Metra and CTA trains when I was younger
In Chicago, it solves the parking problem too!
Every time I see a metro train I think of my dead sister r. i.p Keke Palmer 💔
LMFOAOAOOAOAOAO
Aww, may she R.I.P.
@@Neytiristree Hope and pray your family lives forever.
who is keke palmer
Did she die in a Metra train crash?
Metra Commuter Rail of Chicago one of my favorites, also the have the classic Amtrak F40PH locomotives as their fleets!
Gotta love METRA, eh. Older engines, P5A horns, and gyra lights! Great capture.
Thank you!
Especially those old Amtrak F40 locomotives their awesome man!
@Gene Ferraresi 2aaLlll
Yes
@@ashthegamergal2222 Metra is my favorite commuter railroad.
Chicago Metra is another one of the favorite passenger train systems. I love the locomotives that run at Chicago Metra.
5:54 was the best horn the driver even waved at u
How can you go to a Metra video and then say that the best horn was a K5LA.
I live really close to one of the main lines (I think from Chicago to Aurora) and I grew up watching these beasts when I was little. I always love the green tint when you sit inside everything feels so old and nostalgic in a way but awesome whenever I ride these to go to Chicago.
These are the true definitions of trains. Loud, awesome horns and rumbling locomotives.
I took Metra to work each day for two years. was great to arrive fresh while other co workers had to fight with traffic, lol. The conductor was great, knew who I was. saw him each morning, and on paydays when i took a slightly later-than-usual train home he was on that train. I'd see him and he'd say "payday today?" (i had told him why i took that train only on certain fridays). Metra staff are the best!
Excellent video. Used to love riding those on "bring your kid to work day" with my dad and going past all those crossings, and hearing those great horns. Excellent captures.
Excuse me ma’am, not to be disrespectful or rude but could you please take post down. That is my sister who was killed by a metra train. And it this post is very disrespectful. Idk who you are or if you even know her but I need you to take this down please.

@@chicago90278 😭😭😭😭
I am totally obsessed with Metra. I could sit here and tell you everything about it. I even know every stop on 10 of the 11 lines. I can even identify the locomotives.

Baby this is keke palmer. Have a nice day
Is your sister Keke Palmer? If so, may she R.I.P, however, people that love trains that are from the Chicago area are gonna film them. This video has nothing to do with the promotion of your sister's death. That's a sad situation, it really is, but this is a train video about trains.
@@233CFH it’s a joke LOL
One of my good friends died because he choked on a piece of pizza. Stop eating pizza please
One of my favorite videos you have made! By far my favorite commuter rail in America! Can't wait for more videos!
Thank you very much!
Anytime!
Metra160 Matthew is the worlds running train and you know that they got more, so the new girl has come out so let’s see what is going to be like now
CoasterFan2105 You got my videos,
BNSF SD70ACe-p4 931 yes
I remember seeing those while I still lived in the Windy City
4:49 - if only all cab cars had this horn. Caltrain, the commuter rail agency in San Francisco (very similar to Metra) has the exact same locomotives and gallery cars, also with red lines on the locomotive nose and can, but Caltrain has better horns than Metra
Caltrain has better horns than metra? Sir what kind of drugs are you on and can i have some.
I remember that I filmed My First Metra Train During My Road trip to Chicago with My Dad back in October of 2015.

Such awesome. P5's on these bad boys!
Its a p5a
2:26 is music to my ears
Best commuter railroad out there!
Agreed
MilwaukeeNorth418 very true, I rode on the Chicago & Northwestern Kenosha line between Great Lakes & Chicago when I was on boot camp Liberty, best commuter train system in the entire country. It was in September of 1972 when I rode the Chicago & Northwestern Kenosha line. Chicago & Northwestern made a profit on its commuter trains & it's Chicago-Milwaukee trains before Amtrak & Metra.
agreed
MilwaukeeNorth418 you mean it can get even worse than this?
I would ride it again
It was very fun
1:02 I like that horn! what type is it?
1:27 even the New Metra engines don't have K5LAs, but they have older-sounding horns!
1:47 that cab car has a K5LA that sounds like it belongs on a powered locomotive, and not a cab car!
3:15 so not all new Metra engines have old horns!
4:30 nice catch of a doubleheader for 10 cars!
12:20 wow! another doubleheader for 9 cars! (the 2nd engine has the flat front)
Nice video! I like how Metra still uses older horns, and not the over-used K5LA!
All of the older engines (F40PH) have P5 horns. All the newer ones (MP36) have K5LA horns, except for a certain few. And the one with a flat (actually slanted) front is called an F40PHM-2.
MrBnsftrain Nathan P5A at 1:02
MrBnsftrain The flat front second header at 12:23 is the F40PHM-2.
All correct, thanks everyone! Metra is one of the few railroads that uses P5A air horns!
Lol those things aren't even knew anymore. Whats new or considered new now are the F59PHs. And Metra has a various amount of P5As. Mixed Cast, Old Cast, and New Cast. This goes as far back as the 70-80s. Alot of the old cabcars from the old Milwaukee and Rock Island days had P5s on em. Just seems like the P5 works for Metra which is cool by me. A few F40s back in the RTA days had K5LAs though. The cabcar at 1:47 has a K3LA. All of our cabcars have them and those particular ones where delivered with them. They range from the 8500-8600s. The old Amrail Cab Cars 8400s had K5LAs as shipped back in the 90s but now most have been rebuilt and replaced with a K3LA. Only the MPs and F59s rock the K5 now.
3:33 Man, I wish the MARC MP36s had K5LAs like that.
@Tracking Life with Caleb Let's agree to disagree
That place is a quiet zone now😭
Nice video! Metra has always been one of my favorite railroads!
Thank you! Metra is great!
Same
CoasterFan2105 Chicago is my favorite city. Metra is my favorite and cta is also.

You're welcome, Balerio! Thanks for commenting and watching!
Great selection of trains, thoroughly enjoyed them and the horns.
Thank you very much, Rob!
Let’s say Chicago likes their P5s
Certainly. Had them on locomotives, and older cab cars too.
This was a really fun video to watch of different trains passing by different train stations. This video reminded me about the first time that I took a ride on a Metra Train. It was so much fun.
Hope you will come back soon with the F59PHIs now here to stay, along with the upcoming SD70MACs.
Pardon me person of coasterfan2105 my favorite passenger commuter rail trains are Metrolink and Metra, but my favorite video of CoasterFan2105 are Chicagoland trains, but I love this video.
Thank you!
METRA has unique set of horns. Some K5LA's and some are the other one i don't feel like looking up...
The F40s and some of the MP36s have Nathan P5A horns. The F59PHs and other MP36s have K5LAs and the cab cars have K3LAs.
Yesterday I was not able to go back to school. Daniel is the best.
2:25 horn sound like a 1501s horn (train now retired sadly)
All of those P5s are music to my ears!
This video is one the best I've seen.

I do miss riding the train s back in Chicago it is so cheap love Chicago
I’ve been watching this vid over and over for like 2 years and you inspired me to go to Rondout and also see the f40phm’s the f40phm-2’s are retired
In Summer of 2022, I’m going to Chicago because I Think it will be Really cool, I get to film The Chicago’s Metra! Hope to Even ride One!
Would you mind if I borrowed some of your Metra footage for my upcoming documentary on the Fox River Grove incident? Full credit will be given
Yes, as long as you are not reposting large chunks of the original video, you can use it.
CoasterFan2105 thank you. be sure to expect it tomorrow on the 23rd anniversary of the accident.
I know thunderbolt 1000 I watch his history of trains in the pass about there accidents and incidents.
This was already 3 years ago!?!?!? Still my favorite vid!

almost all double-decker cars! not like that here in Boston. mu h less than 50% are doubles. thanks for the nice video
Thanks, Mike! I think you guys are getting some more of the Multi-levels too.
I love trains my favorite place to watch trains is at the railroad crossings
This passed through my town a ton when i was younger. Then upgraded to a more modern one i don't know the name of.
Still, I'm here cause i was playing Train Sim World using the Cali version. Wishing it had Metra colors.
Isn't there a mod for that in the steam workshop?
Dovetail games should really make the bnsf line in tsw
@@oct197. while bnsf line would be good, I think the north Milwaukee line would also add alot, the electric district would also be cool as it runs though the McCormick place
Metra highliners during rush hour are super busy and packed I’ve been on there during that time
I love trains there the best!
Yeah!
Hey nice video! I see these trains everyday!
Thanks!
Cool horn salute at 0:38!
I live near a metra train station. however, it's a quiet zone so they can barely honk. I live on the North Milwaukee line by the way.

OMG METRA 1:15 at 4:27 HAS THE BEST SOUNDING HORN
I meant metra #115
aww no Metra Electric? :(
They are being saved for a special video!

These are what I commonly see in my area in the suburbs of Chicago
Nice video
Thanks!
Is it me, or are k5las louder than the p5s
definetly
Good job, nice light. I guess the more upscale towns, Downers Grove, Naperville, etc, have banned horns, which is kind of nice.
absolutely NOT nice.
Mike, in Iowa, have you ever been on the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad?
I wanted to, but unfortunately they weren't running when I was in the area. Still on the list!
I love completely clean Metra trains
Wow that's amazing good job Mike
Awesome Capture
Cool video
Great vid! I live in a suburb on the MD-W line!
Nice catch mate
Amazing Captures! did you know that, at 0:37, thats the station that a Train UA-camr named A Train 51 Production, he went to that station
Super Video
Can you make a video on CSAO in Bound Brook NJ or NJT or NS Lehigh Line
I may be out there not too long from now. Stay tuned!
Maybe the Illinois Railway Museum can buy 610 to keep it preserved and running.
4:26
The horn here is epic
That is at river grove which is a quiet zone now
Awesome Video Mike
Man, I LOVE the MP40 Diesel engine. It's my favourite aside from the P42.
Jackstermax those are MP36 locomotives
Huh couldn't tell the difference. What distinguishes them? They look the same. 3:36
Jackstermax I don't know how you distinguish them, but the main difference is that the MP36 has 3,600 horsepower and the MP40 has 4,000 horsepower
I'm not sure about spotting features, but GO is the only railroad to purchase MP40s. All the other commuter railroads use MP36 locomotives.
Wow, never knew that! Learn something new everyday!
Hey Mike, can you go see the Napa Valley Wine Train's new Quattro Vino excursion??
I'll try next time I'm in the bay area!
Mike! Y u no tell me u was n town?! Literally at Rondout you was about 20-30 mins away.
This was all filmed last October. I haven't been back since then haha
Which lines were featured
I live next to Metro train stop for seven years
The lines were UP-NW and, MD-W, and MD-N. What was the last one? BNSF?
11:19 nice horn
Nice Job!
I'm going to Glen ellyn metra train station
Mike, Metra's first train (Which was in the first clip) is an F40PHM-2. My question is, why do certain commuter railroads use one type of train horn?
Probably just for ease of ordering. Manufacturers typically put the same type of horn on all their locomotives, which is why all the GEVOs use K5HL horns. As horns get replaced, railroads will often supply their own spare horns. That's why several of the Metra MP36 locomotives now have P5As.

Thanks! I'd like to visit that area!
you were not that far from Wisconsin state line. Metra has a station in Kenosha, Wisconsin and it is the only Metra stop in Wisconsin
YES
Isn't pushing the train from behind unsafe compared to pulling the train from the front?? This is the first time i have seen a train run "backwards"
