- Chicago's Metra is one of the biggest commuter rail services in North America. In this video, we'll take a look at Metra commuter trains running on several different lines in the year 2024. Our focus will be on the newer locomotives in Metra's fleet - those being the F59PH and F59PHI units as well as Metra's newest SD70MACH units, the only six axle commuter locomotives currently running in North America.

The Railfan treasure trove of a railroad!! If you’re looking for a commuter train that operates EMDs and nothing else, then Metra is for you!
That sums it up pretty well!
@@CoasterFan2105My favorite Trains are Freight Trains but I like Passenger Trains.
@@CoasterFan2105Oh btw I'll give you a shout out in one of my Train Videos.
HAPPY FRIDAY, FRIEND ! !
@@CoasterFan2105am I on time
This used to be my childhood railroad, I miss them so much. Great catches!
Thanks!
Well... at least you got Kenosha, but there's basically nothing
I love my AM power naps commuting on Metra's southwest service. So much better then driving to work
Awesome video!
Thanks so much! Really appreciate it!
No problem!
Thank you for my childhood
Fascinating to see these Metra trains navigating Chicago! This is a great reminder of the vital role public transportation plays in a bustling city like Chicago. Efficient and reliable systems like Metra are essential for keeping things moving!
I must admit that you are the best railway 🚃 UA-camr always watched you as a kid! And I still do❤️
Thanks for watching!
As a person who went to Chicago in the summer, I can identify that Metra is one of the best but biggest commuter rails in the Illinois area. I have taken two of their lines before (MD-N the most, BNSF Line to Berwyn, IL once).
I know it's nostalgic but I really hope Metra gets some rolling stock that looks like it's from this century soon lol
They should be getting some new Alstom cars in the next few years!
Happy 40th Anniversary ,Metra Trainset!
I have never rode metra trains in Chicago but, those old locomotives will be forever ongoing
I love Metra trains, and I love filming Metra trains. Now that i live in FL, I haven't seen one in a while. Thanks for sharing this awesome video!
No problem! Thanks for watching!
KEEP 'EM COMING, MIKE ARMSTRONG ! KEEP 'EM COMING ! !

Hands down my favorite passenger railway in Illinois.
Can’t we agree that that Metra’s MP36MPH K5LAs (and P5s) are so majestic to hear???
Yea
Wish the 2 the MBTA had were equipped with K5LAs lol
Fantastic video and catches of the metra trains. Enjoyed the video and have a great upcoming weekend. Steve
Thank you, Steve! Have a great weekend.
@@CoasterFan2105 you're very welcome and thank you very much also.

SURPRISINGLY ENTERTAINING ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I had no idea there was a freight diesel in the metra trans service to that’s cool
Metra really has become the passenger railroad of locomotive variety. Nice catches Mike
Hello Mike, an interesting video about the METRA passenger trains. I like that many of the F59PH and F59PHI locomotives are still in use. Thanks for the great video and have a nice Sunday. Best regards from Germany.
I miss these trains 🚂 😢❤
I live close to Naperville station so I railfan there almost every day

You visited my hometown of Elgin, nice work as always.
Nice Metra Trains Catches!
Metra has some really nice horns! wish all the coaster horns were like that.
The way the MP36s sound at Run 8 is unmatched. 6:30 7:37

Thank you, greetings!
Nice.. 👍👍
Metra SD70MAC 0:36 THAT IS METRA ON SD70MAC
5:39 hold up I’ve seen this one you put it in Midwest trains
Why does the BNSF line only have F40s while the other lines get the new locomotives and the F59
The BNSF line were supposed to get the MACH’s but BNSF being BNSF (petty) they didn’t want them because it had a 710 engine instead of a 645 which all the other F40’s have. So to answer your question, (in short) blame BNSF.
This railroad must be run entirely by railfans. Literally an all EMD fleet!! My favorite type of locomotive!
GO, MIKE ARMSTRONG, GO
Nice video
Thanks, Evan!
@@CoasterFan2105 No problem Mike!
Will you make a vid on The Metra Bi- level Gallery Cars?
Now we need a Salt Lake video including Frontrunner lol
It's my childhood dream see them in reality 😢 but sadly I can't see them nor I have model train set 😢
Sometimes I railfan at the Canal Street portal, and all of these locomotives you recorded are coming in and out every 10-ish minutes. Have you ever tried that spot?
I have not gone to that specific spot yet, but hopefully next time I'm in Chicago.
Propietario: Regional Transportation Authority
Director ejecutivo: Jim Derwinski (2017-)
Fundación: 1984
Estaciones: 240
Pasajeros: 301,200 (lunes a viernes); 121,800 (sábados a domingos)
Tipo: Cercanías
Do you know where you railfanned in the first clip?
this is very cool to see, I wonder what locos Metra use?
These seem more like "real" trains than el "trains" of the CTA. Must be the locomotives and the railroad crossings.
7:45 - Great shot of the Sears . . . I mean, "Willis" tower.
I’ve seen a few bit of Metra trains when I was in Chicago, but all the crossings that I saw, had quiet zones. Which places are good to railfan for me next time with crossings having the horns sounded
Most of the system is a quiet zone, but there are still a few crossings that aren't. Thanks for watching!
Rockland Rd in Rondout, IL is a good spot for that
I was today years old when I learned that Metra has F59PHs
You should talk about 3001!
+CoasterFan2105, DO MORE "STEAM TRAINS GALORE" UA-cam VIDEOS, PLEASE ? 😃
AWESOME TOWN USA FOR VERY VERY INCREDIBLE ❤🤍💙
Hey Mike! What are your favorite Metra lines from greatest to least? Just curious!
It's hard to pick just one. I really like the Milwaukee West line because I think it has the best variety of photo locations, but they're all interesting and unique!
A few of the trains shown have one car that's painted blue (possibly with white trim), rather than the usual bare metal (for want of a better term). What is different about the blue cars?
¡Segundo comentario!
0:44 Tell me, ARE THOSE FREAKING VRE COACHES IN THE BACK??!?!?!?!?
They sure do look like V.R.E coaches
Mike what is the status with 2105? It’s still in storage along with ATSF 5704. I also heard something about the SCRM trying to acquire a CalTrain F40, you have any new info?
9700 Phase 7
I’m Assuming That The First Train Was Filmed At Lockport
Sho poprobuvat shche!
When did Metra start using more K5LA's??
1:29 can you even tell the difference from Amtrak and Metra?
Yea
Niles Canyon Railway Years 2024
How do they run revers with eengine at front and no clear sight?
cab control unit car
Info camera??
I AM NEVER PRESSING THE UA-cam VIDEO DISLIKE BUTTON FOREVER
Does anyone k ow the routes of all the metra trains shown in this video as I can’t really identify them despite being a regular metra commuter
0:20 5:37
Sory bot cen you make video ebavt santa fe 3751 in 2024 plis
Does anybody know what are the models of those diesels?
They are SD70MACH units. SD70MAC freight locomotives with added Head end power capabilities.
@@CoasterFan2105 ah ok thanks
