- Sound Transit operates two commuter rail lines out of Seattle. Let's take a look at Sounder commuter trains as they run through the suburbs of Seattle along Puget Sound! All aboard!

I really admire the color scheme and design for these trains.
I always assumed it was called Sounder because of the Puget Sound, but now I realize it's because they're constantly sounding the horn!

Good memory, of watching trains pull in and out of King Street, but I never seen it this way. Great video Mike! Glad you didn't catch rain.
Sounder with 2 or 3 cars, is pretty rare for me. 7-8 cars was how many I saw. I lived in Washington for 2 years (got there in 08 and came back to Texas in 2010) I rode the Sounder only once. However here in Texas in the DFW Area, we have the Trinity Railway Express or TRE for sort. The TREs have 2-3 cars, and 4 on busy days. There’s also an old RDC that is apart of the fleet… but mostly F59PH IVs and 2 F59PHIs. TRE needs MPI MPXpress locomotives
I especially love those shot where you get good close look Mt. Rainer. Now that's beauty. Especially on a nice sunny clear day. Gorgeous!

Amazing horns on the F59PHis and Cab Cars (Awful horns on the MP40s, though!)! Sounder is one of my favorite commuter railroads, not only for those great horns, but also the livery fascinates me too!
The MP40s are Ex- GOT which have K5CA-LS horns which are their emergency horns
They're not Ex-GO. They were just built with the horn that GO considered standard since they were built specifically as Tier 3 Prototypes for units which MPI would later build for GO. MPI just decided to sell them to Sounder after they were done with them, and Sounder never bothered to change the horns on them.

The horns are sensitive to much air pressure. The full blast of the horn is worse while half blasting the horn sounds... Fine i guess
@Thunder Phantom Fan λ That's a K5CA-LS, the "full blast" you're hearing is the emergency horn, which can be blown much more easily than the ones in Canada.

Awesome video!!!! I like those nice K5LAs on both Sounder's Cab Cars and F59PHIs but i'm not sure what horn the MP40PH-3Cs use though, but great video also do you know how much longer will Sounder's F59s last? I know I remember you talking about them completing a program about rebuilding theirs to meet the EPA's Tier 3 Emissions Standards but like how many more years exactly? It's ok if you don't know but anyway great video!!!! It's also pretty interesting of how Sounder still kept their fuel covers for the fuel tanks and Amtrak still keeps theirs but then the other commuter railroads such as Metrolink and Coaster took their fuel guards off, I wonder why? You make some of the most high quality train videos. I just wish most of the power you were filming wasn't soon to be replaced, as it was 100 percent of the reason I wanted to visit those pieces of track, but now they are scratched off the list by default of chargers.

It's one of the regularly scheduled Everett to Seattle trains. They're sorter than the ones down to Tacoma, usually only 2 or 3 cars long.

Great video Mike. I have been up in the Seattle area before but I have never seen the Sounder train in person. I hope to see some in 2019 but for now, I have this video to watch.

Nope, just the rails humming and the horn echoing off the nearby islands.
I guess Robert Swanson did a good job making his train horns sound like whistles off of steam locomotives.

While I really like Sounders, as I've grown up seeing them all the time, I still believe the F59s are a lot more fitting for them compared to the MP40s. Maybe its just the kid in me that likes the better sounding horn, but who knows

Their MP36's Have Some K5LA Horns but their Very Fouled K5LA's

Those horns that have a low profile are the same ones on the via rail.
