Man SEPTA has some awesome equipment. I love the look of the Silverliner V's. I think most (if not all) of the AEM-7s have been replaced by Siemens ACS-64 units on SEPTA's Push-Pull sets at this point.
Oh wow, did this bring back so many memories! I grew up outside Philadelphia, right off the R5 - now called the Paoli/Thorndale Line - and spent countless hours watching SEPTA trains go by. And I saw Bryn Mawr Station in a few spots too! My grandmother operated a travel agency (remember those?) in Bryn Mawr maybe 2-3 blocks up from the station when I was a little kid, andhe used to take me down to the platform at the end of the day and we'd watch the westbound (I think?) Broadway Limited come speeding through the station right around 5:15 in the evening.
I spent two years on it - 1979 and 1980 - through their snowstorms - the only time both it AND the Pennsylvania Turnpike were shut at the same time due to weather.
Yes, Friend, Both of Them are Off to the Great Railway Stations in the Sky in Railway-Train Heaven, But I Know That Deep Down Inside We'll Always Have Our Never-Ending Memories, My UA-cam-Friend.
Actually right now as of Nov 2019 two AM7's are pulling the gel train for slippery rail season. Three were made ready, 1 came back several weeks later with issues. Honestly im not sad to see them go, but then again I have to fix them. Gel season will finish the week of Thanksgiving.
@@tyityiwalker they do have a refurbished Loco in service. I seen the pics of it, looks good. I think they took some of our spare parts inventory. There's video of when our units went to the scrap yard. Not sure of thier fate but most likely cut up. There was one transformer that was removed and scrapped separately.
The "newer-looking" commuter train in the video are the old Market-Frankford Line subway cars. You can tell that those cars were designed to pull into a platform station with the floor of the car even with the platform. Pause the video at 00:19 and look at how high the double doors are off the ground, Subway car masquerading as a commuter car
Daniel Murphy they’re actually not.. those are Hyundai Rotem Silverliner V cars, went into service around 2010. They’re very nice, with automated announcements and high res displays inside. They have the high level doors with trap doors to accommodate a bunch of the low level septa platforms. The Budd M3 “Almond Joy” cars that were on the Market-Frankford Line were all scrapped.
@@danielmurphy1100 you’re partially right. Hyundai Rotem mainly makes subway cars and they do look like the ones on the blue line. When septa was looking to buy newer cars and start retiring the old silver liners, they bought these from a company that hasn’t made heavy rail equipment. This caused a lot of problems as the cars were not fit for the different environment. They started breaking down and cracking. By this point the SVs made up 1/3 of the fleet and septa had suspend and repair all of them. Aka, septageddon
Out of all of the Commuter Trains from SEPTA, I barely get to see some of them being pulled by a locomotive. I guess I haven't seen most of the Delaware Valley since I never rode their Commuter trains before. Only the trains on the NJ Transit line when I visited Atlantic City on a Year to Year basis.
Hey Mike can you do a compilation video for CT rail in Connecticut CT rail is new to Connecticut. CT rail started on June 16th, 2018 with the Hartford Line and quickly after absorbed the Shore Line East service. I suggest you make the Video when CT rail upgrades it's rolling stock. The CT rail Shore Line East is expecting to get Kawasaki M8 EMUs for expansion into New York City. CT rail is expecting to purchase either SC-44 or SC-42 for the Hartford Line and CT rail is repainting their Amtrak and New Jersey Transit P40DC Locomotives into the CT rail Paint Scheme. I am going to ask CT rail if they can repaint their Mafersa Coaches from having the New Haven and Connecticut Commuter Rail logos into the new CT rail Logo.
Pre covid they ran frequently. They don't even made up 15% of Septa's equipment roster so that's why it seems like they run less. Currently the ACS-64's aren't running due to voltage issues on the Reading side of the System.
Really nice catches there Mike! Just subbed to your channel. Take a look at my recent Amtrak video if you get a chance. More to come. Thanks! Cheers, Danny
Thanks!
Thanks so much!
Thanks for sharing Mike, it's sad that you've shot more SEPTA than me and I live here!
Same for me
In 3:32 the horn is amazing
1:43 such a beautiful sound rip AEM-7’s
Always liked SEPTA stuff...nice video!

Yep.
Thunderbolt!? I'm a huge fan! :D
That is awesome the last day of AEM-7 locomotives they Replaced to ASC 64 900 services

Those newer EMU’s are pretty cool!

Nice video! Can you come back to Long Island, we have new M9s and special de-ice trains running this time of year.
Nice! I miss The SPETA AEM-7s just like The Amtrak AEM-7
I Also Miss The ALP-44
The AEM-7 will be Amtrak's most rememberable train. Even mine after running on Amtrak for nearly 40 years.
So sad to see the EMD AEM-7 Retire replace with Siemens ACS-64

6:12 that horn sounded like someone screaming in pain
Ol screechy. Theres a leak in the horn diaphram (usually a crack) causing air to rush through the crack causing the awful screech
How u spell it: FREEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM

That locomotive at 3:06 is actually called the "Dinky" (😂😂😂😂) and it has kinda cringy horns on septa.
Where is that bridge located on 3:07?
@@TheDomeHepot010 idk but I feel like I’ve seen that bridge in my dreams or something😅
Those are Silverliner IV's... Different than the Arrow III's...
@@TheBestTrainsAreReal 3:06 6:59 1:00 1:05 Septa has the Ferrosur 12009 ex-NdeM, ex-FNM
One septa train looks like a subway for some reason. But I like the one with the engine at the front with the cars!
The Silverliner V does have a lot of cues from the Market Frankford El
6:09why does that sound like screaming when you just wake up
0:28 its very sad that septa didn't preserve this. add it to the list of legends never preserved along with most of septa's old f units
Atleast it had a good run
Always nice to see your content. Even though I am British i still enjoy it
Always liked septa stuff.... nice video!
Love the horns on those things! Impressive video!!!! :)
6:09 Metroliner in revenue service? WHAT? lol great video Mike!
Lol I get it because they had S55s lol
Yupp.
0:45 Can somebody tell me what station that is? Is it Woodbourne on the West Trenton line?

I love the Silverliner V horn!
Mike Philly was home to me I was raised there in Levittown pretty close circles
Visited Thunderbolt 1000t siren productions
I like these trains.. I just always felt SEPTA ran painfully slow every time I saw them in person.
Awesome video mike and I've uploaded 2 new videos on my channel and one more thing I have a quick question
Pretty cool Septa commuter trains
Is that the AEM-7 or the LP-44???
Anthony Taylor Network Numbers 2301-2307 are AEM-7’s and 2308 is an ALP-44
@@southeasternpennsylvaniara1588 Thank you very much.👍👍

Nice catches Mike
I love the fact that you can "quail" the horn on SEPTA equipment
yeah Im sure people trying to sleep love hearing that at 2 am
With the SC-44 replacing the P42DC. Do you think there will be a dual mode version of the chargers to replace the P32AC-DM?
Probably. I heard Metro North was actually interested in the Chargers when they were first being put into service
LIRR too
best K3 award goes to the septa silverliner V
Keep on the great work
Hey Mike it's me Arthur Graves
Gonna miss those aem7s
The Toasters Rise Again!
Super video!
I wish the NJ Transit GP40-2 can lead a Septa Commuter train, because if it does, I will be great.
