    Little tip - if you use the same node tree structure all the time - do it once and save it as a Powergrade - then when you start you can just add the powergrade to all your clips at the same time.

      Yes! Either way works. :D

    • @Andresvideo

      @@DEADEYESpress you can save it as a still (right click on the image if I remember well, in the color tab) and then you can drag that still from the stills gallery to the power grade gallery. That power grade will be there every time you open Resolve.

    • @JamieFenn
      @JamieFenn  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the kind words, remember though, luts are not essential for color grading. Think of them as a personal taste of putting a digital filter on your footage. Sometimes at first you think its great but you may come back to watch it and realize it looks like crap. Use them sparingly. Maybe turn them down to 10-20% strength.

    Brand new to davinci but what is the benefit to creating a bunch of different nodes instead of just doing all the color adjustments under same node. i don't get fancy with the color, just to get it looking right.

    • @JamieFenn
      @JamieFenn  5 років тому +1

      Flexibility between your adjustments. Also each adjustment affects each other differently depending on which corrections come first in the node tree.

    • @epontius
      @epontius 5 років тому +1

      You can do a basic correction all in one node, but separating out parts of the grade into their own nodes helps you stay organized and allows you to temporarily turn off or make specific adjustments without impacting other nodes. Serial nodes flow or cascade from one node to the next. For example, if you pushed the image to blue in one node and yellow in the next, the two nodes would end up negating each other and the result is a neutral image again.
      Nodes allow you to do very specific adjustments.

    Thanks for the video! I notice that your workspace layout has 3 panels on the bottom separating the color wheel, curves, and scopes. My version only has 2 panels where the color wheels, curves, etc. switch and the scopes, info, etc switch. How can I change it like yours? It looks a bit more streamline that way.

    Great video, brightened my mind on using DResolve for color grading. Couple of questions. 1) How to add additional panel to the bottom of the screen? You've got 3 (Color Wheels, Histogram, Scopes) and I've only have 2. 2) Second question is about viewing default image: is there a quick way to turn on/off particular node to inspect how picture changes when I make... changes? =)

      I had the same issue.
      The problem was which thumbnail / clip i was right clicking on on the timeline to 'apply grade'.
      So, assuming you have added the extra nodes to the first thumbnail in the timeline.
      You then left click on the second clip, hold shift and click on the very last clip on the timeline, to select all the other video clips (except the first one).
      THEN right click on the 1st clip to bring up the menu, select 'Apply Grade' and the nodes created on the first clip will be copied to all the other selected clips!
      So you;re telling davinci, apply the settings from the first clip to all the other selected clips.
      Hope this helps, took me a few minutes to figure out.

    • @jburch5752
      @jburch5752 5 років тому

      @@JamieFenn Layers in Premiere is the same concept that you see in Photoshop. Nodes is a different approach to in some respects to do the same thing but they are also use to create special effects. Premier has After effects. Davinci uses notes to achieve the many of the same things without having (in the current versions) to go to an external version. Nodes are actually more flexible but harder to understand. Think of it more as a flow chart of the things you are trying to do. Where layers is like the old projectors with transparencies stacked on top. Also, there are different types of nodes that can give you additional control. Obviously, there is a big learning curve to nodes because they have so many uses.

    Should I really turn sharpness all the way down when shooting? Wont this make my image too soft/blurry? I have a canon c300. Is this tip camera specific or should I be turning sharpness all the way down on all cameras?

    • @MoneyMunday
      @MoneyMunday 5 років тому +1

      The sharpness your camera has is a built-in digital sharpness. It's better to do your sharpening on a more powerful, proper software such as Resolve.

    • @JamieFenn
      @JamieFenn  5 років тому

      Agreed.

    • @JamieFenn
      @JamieFenn  5 років тому

      I recommend doing the sharpening in post. If you bake the settings into the video before you process it in post it limits the flexibility of the clip. You can't really reduce sharpness in post besides making it blurry. So might as well start with no sharpness on. Depends on your turnover rate for editing and final export as well.
