Blackstar are considered by many to be budget entry level amps. When Jared plays through them, they sound like the best amps in the world. Gorgeous tones.
“Play more and obsess less” is my motto. Gear does not make one a better player. Time playing does. You will sound like you whether it’s a Peavey and a squire or a custom shop and a ‘68 plexi super lead.
I’m new to discovering you and getting to know who you are as a guitarist. That said, this was a very interesting and helpful video for me and exceptionally well explained. Thank you
I'm originally a bass player but now playing the electric guitar at church. Can't play with a pick to save my life and have been using the PIMA style. I did have to resort to using a thumb pick because the electric steel strings were wearing down my index and middle finger nail beds from strumming.
Dorothy is sounding great with Jared singing through her! The mahogany they used on those old Les Paul was feather-weight, some people say it was from Cuba (?), and those old P-90 pickups had magic in them.
Hello Jared. Sorry for my english, i'm french and i do my best to communicate. I remember you on "myspace" 👍 ✌️ yeah man, it's been a long time that i try to follow you (at this period, i'm with my band called "Topaze"). So cool to seeing that you are on a very good way and now you're singing 🎉 You have a amazing talent, a very good mix of Soul, feeling, technics and human being, natural feel with MUSIC 🎶 🤘 I'm happy to see you again on the music/life path. Take care of you, your family and i hope one day we jam together 🍀 Peace and Happiness man
What a great lesson Jared, these are things that I don't think about doing but should. Of course, when we played together at the Silver Moon you used a pick but I love what you are doing now, you have come so far my friend.
The awesome guys at GuitarGuitar just gave us a little masterclass with Jared James Nichols. I still find it imposible to sound just like you Jared but I love it that you took the time to give us some insights to your playing.🔥👏🏾
Dorothy is an amazing guitar but don't be fooled! We'd heard Jared getting similar tones out of guitars straight off the wall - his tone really is in the fingers.
Toy Caldwell of the Marshall Tucker Band also played without a pick. He had great tone as well. I don't know much about his rig, but imagine it was his Les Paul plugged straight into a tube amp, and cranked.
There’s so much that goes into getting a good sound with electric fingerstyle. You have to experiment with the how and where your fingers touch the strings. A slight angle shift can change a lot. How you dial in your tone matters a lot too and the tone knob can be your best friend. There will also be muting issues you need to figure out solutions for
Dont be picky use your fingers. Theres so many styles to use them. Also look at „the thumb“ abasi. Also a les paul helps. Love my stratt but it tends to funk. Tends to play 16ths. Whole notes. Dude your great. Wish id found you years ago. Went pickless 2 years ago. Went to a rec session, afterwards noticed i forgot the pick… what string gage you got?
What a bad ass! JJN is the best! I started playing more without my picks and i practice without them as much as i possibly can. I'm still not at JJN level obviously with the comfort but the more i play the easier it gets. I saw him with John 5 a few years ago and since then I realized you could rock your ass off without one. I also realized that my favorite guitarists used Telecasters which was a surprise considering i listen to a ton of harder rock. So here i am, no pick playing metal on a Tele, if you told me when i was growing up that would ever happen i would have laughed.
My respects to Jared! He sounds amazing! Reminds me of Richie Kotzen. I play with my fingers plenty, but I just can't do the rock thing comfortably without a pick😮
I just started playing guitar after almost 30 years of being exclusively on bass (which I play a lot of chords etc on) and decided not to bother with a pick because that’s always been a sticking point for me on guitar.
i do respect the all finger guys; i do think hybrid is still the best way to go, especially if one can incorporate their "pinky". i think "Hybrid Theory" opens up the most limitless possibilities
@@guitarguitaruk Yes it truly is. "That guitar" was propably the key that opened it up for many of those known players. they got the skills and then came the right tool, at least I will think so.
... like your playing.... it s great... love it and I want to say.... to the young players... go and sometimes play without anything.... listen only to the wood of your guitar... you can play for hours.... and you didn t disturb anyone....
This is sooo good, you're an amazing player Jared with good feel. You've inspired me to do a solo with my hand and put it up on my UA-cam. #musicisnotacompetition Goodness TBA brother! 🙌
Watching this a second time and I've picked up that it's a good idea to mimic different instruments or brass, strings etc for variation of articulation, rhythm and duration 👌
I can't remember how many times someone would hand me a guitar and ask me to play something but I couldn't because no pick! I didn't know this was possible without a pick
1:31 - Hi GuitarGuitar, I don't understand how Jared is playing rhythm with his right hand. Is he using his index finger fingernail to strum and chug, or is he using his thumb? I've played with my fingers a lot over the years (decades), but for rhythm playing I never did find a method to give me attack that didn't wear down and chip my fingernails. Jared has found the secret though!
Looks as though he's doing a bit of both! Mostly thumb though we'd imagine. What's interesting is that he plays as if he's holding an invisible pick... such a great technique that has to be seen to be believed.
@@guitarguitaruk That's really interesting, because I use a "holding an invisible pick" technique, but when I do it, my index finger is the pick that gets attack on the string... but the attack comes from the index fingernail, which gets shredded if I do it too often. I only do it if I don't have a pick to hand, or if I've dropped the pick and need to finish the song, or if I'm mainly playing a song fingerstyle. Man, Jared is an amazing find for me... he stands out a mile amongst millions of UA-cam clone guitarists. Thanks for the video.
I really do think his sound is great. He has vintage les Paul’s. But he sounds every bit as good when he’s playing an epiphone. I wish I could develop my finger picking. I can work the thumb and index in. But the middle and ring. Nope lol. I’ll never have his speed with it. But anyhow. His tone is unmatched right now.
Jared. You are my favorite guitarist. Your hands are doing the job. Now your brain needs to write a bunch of awesome songs. That's the hardest part. It's the reason Jimmy Page was more successful than Jeff Beck, though even Jimmy himself knows that Jeff was a better player, maybe the best ever.
How to play guitar with no fingers and no strings... (just kidding) 😄😄😄 No seriously this video should be seen by all younger players. And they also be better off listening to Wes Montgomery.
JJN should return the Dorothy Les Paul to the owner. It was found in a yard after a tornado and the person that found the body of the guitar made a deal to give it to JJN. I was contacted by a person suggesting the scenario that the guitar was claimed on insurance. No evidence support. If that "is" right...the insurance company owns the Les Paul. Please hv my back musicians. What if this was yours?
AMEN BROTHER!!!!!!! I'm a fingerstyle guy - steel string - abandoned the pick years ago. Started playing my TELE like what you do and love it.
Every guitar player needs to hear this
Agreed!
Music is not a competition. Every metal fan needs to hear this too. 😂
No one plays as aggressive as Jared with just their fingers! Just insanely cool and amazing.
I actually do. I thought I was a weirdo until I discovered this dude.
Thank you Jared what your message‘Music is not competition, have a fun’!

That tone is sick!

Great tones until it breaks and you can't find the parts. Blackstar service is the worst! Will never get another.
Dave Simpson is the same, tone out of a tin can!

Beautiful guitar playing outstanding
Favorite player and person. So down to earth.
We love Jared for all of the above reasons!
No BS. No ego. Just lays it down and shares with others. Class.

Great guy, communicates so well, great live, chats with the audience after a gig what's not to like 👍
We just put him in front of some cameras and this wealth of knowledge just poured out of him! Guy's got tone for days!
Great....love it....thank you sooo much for this ❤
Such a talented musician 🎶🤙🏾
I've been playing 15+ years now and I'm not lying when I say that this video is the best guitar tutorial I've ever seen on UA-cam in that time
What a great teacher and genuine cool dude. Such great stuff here! Very helpful!
Awesome Jared!
One of the greatest players excellent lesson ...jamlobby approved
You'll be delighted to hear there WILL be another episode in the future. Keep an eye on our channel 🤘

What is up with that second pickup? ... Wink wink ... You're my favorite of all time!

Helps that his tone is coming from a 52 gold top. Love that pickup with the corner screws.
Dorothy is an amazing guitar but don't be fooled! We'd heard Jared getting similar tones out of guitars straight off the wall - his tone really is in the fingers.
@@guitarguitaruk I forgot this guitar was named Dorothy. 🌪️
I love the early 50’s gold tops
What a killer player! Very inspirational! 😉🎸
We guitarists are lucky to have someone like JJN to look up to 🙂
Toy Caldwell of the Marshall Tucker Band also played without a pick.
He had great tone as well.
I don't know much about his rig, but imagine it was his Les Paul plugged straight into a tube amp, and cranked.
Incredible.
Awesome!
just freakin cool thanks
i transition's from using a pick to using finger only. gave me different dynamics and different tones.

Excellent idea. It's amazing to hear the amount of tonal variety Jared managed with his hands alone 🔥🎸
i do respect the all finger guys; i do think hybrid is still the best way to go, especially if one can incorporate their "pinky". i think "Hybrid Theory" opens up the most limitless possibilities
And the guitar itself. Some guitars invites one to do alsorts of stuff and those ideas luring in the brain will pop out in play.
Such a weird phenomenon! You pick up a different guitar and it makes you play different things... it's like magic
@@guitarguitaruk Yes it truly is. "That guitar" was propably the key that opened it up for many of those known players. they got the skills and then came the right tool, at least I will think so.
As a lefty myself it always flips my lid
That a lot of LH people play guitar RH
It just goes to show it only matters what fits for you

I thought I was broken not playing with a pick. Now I’m gonna own it. No pick gang!

I shouldn’t tell you guys this but my pic and thumb is always hitting the strings together giving it a harmonic tone with chords and single notes
I really do think his sound is great. He has vintage les Paul’s. But he sounds every bit as good when he’s playing an epiphone. I wish I could develop my finger picking. The only guitarist who actually took Jeff Becks advice
I hope I heard this ten years ago.
He suddenly turned 50!!
Not sure with being left handed has anything to do with you picking hand?
I use my fingers also.

Make it sing... Wamma Jamma!

This guy was born 80 years too late.
wonder why he didn't just get a lefty guitar.
TONE for millennia
Tone for the ages!
